His new deal will pay him $575,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 at the AHL level. Mazaenc will compete with Carter Hutton for the Predators' backup goaltender job in 2015-16. He appeared in just two games with Nashville this past season and made 25 appearances in 2013-14 because of Pekka Rinne's hip issue.

The move indicates that Pekka Rinne is ready to return and he could be back in the lineup as soon as Thursday's meeting with Anaheim. Feb 4 - 12:50 PM

Marek Mazanec allowed three goals on 28 shots in Friday's 3-0 loss to Colorado.

Despite the three goals, the third was an empty netter, Mazanec put forth a solid effort. He helped kill off four power plays and was only beaten while heavily shielded. Not too shabby for a goalie who now has just 23 career NHL starts. He's now 8-11-4 with a .915 save percentage and 2.26 GAA in 27 career games.
Jan 31 - 12:15 AM

Marek Mazanec will face the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night.

Mazanec has just 47 minutes of playing time with Nashville this season, in which he turned away 18 of 20 shots. However last season he was part of the carousal trying to soak up Pekka Rinne's starts after the all-world netminder went down. Mazanec compiled an 8-10-4 record with 64 goals against in 25 games last season.
Jan 30 - 8:26 PM

Marek Mazanec has been summoned from the minors.

He was expected to rejoin the Predators after the All-Star break because Pekka Rinne is still out with knee injury. Mazanec could get more opportunities to play if Carter Hutton can't handle the workload.
Jan 26 - 3:33 PM

Marek Mazanec was sent back to AHL Milwaukee on Wednesday.

He was brought up because of an injury to number one goalie Pekka Rinne and he's expected to return to the Predators after the All-Star break. Mazanec made his season debut after Carter Hutton was pulled against Detroit on Jan. 17. He stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced in a 5-2 loss for Nashville.
Jan 22 - 2:40 PM

Marek Mazanec gave up two goals on 20 shots in the Predators’ loss to the Red Wings on Saturday night.

Mazanec entered in relief of Carter Hutton, who yielded three goals on the first four shots he faced in 12:32. Mazanec had not started in the NHL since Jan. 12, 2014, so this was a pretty good performance from the 23-year-old. He had a 2.49 goals-against average and .907 save percentage in the AHL before his recall.
Jan 17 - 9:50 PM

Marek Mazanec has been summoned from the minors.

Jan 15 - 1:03 PM

The Predators assigned Marek Mazanec to Milwaukee of the AHL.

Carter Hutton will stay in Nashville and duke it out for playing time with newly-acquired Devan Dubnyk. Mazanec could be the Preds' goalie of the future and the team obviously wanted him playing every game.

Marek Mazanec or Carter Hutton will be sent to the minors after the Predators return to Nashville on Friday.

Nashville acquired Devan Dubnyk from Edmonton on Wednesday and he's expected to serve as the team's number one goaltender while Pekka Rinne remains sidelined. Mazanec has the better numbers of the two, but that doesn't mean that he wouldn't benefit from more playing time in the AHL.

Marek Mazanec allowed four goals on 23 shots Sunday night as the Predators were dumped by Minnesota by a score of 4-0.

Mazanec has been the Predators' best option in goal while Pekka Rinne nurses his hip injury, but that's not saying much considering he holds a 2.80 GAA and a .902 save percentage. His record falls to 8-10-4 with the loss.
Sun, Jan 12, 2014 09:41:00 PM

Marek Mazanec made 20 saves in the Predators' 2-1 shootout loss to the Senators on Saturday night.

The young netminder gave up a goal late in the second period and came up short in the skills competition. This was Mazanec's finest outing in well over a month, as plus-.900 save percentage performances have been few and far between. He has a 2.75 goals-against average and .904 save percentage this year.
