The Predators assigned Marek Mazanec to Milwaukee of the AHL.
Carter Hutton will stay in Nashville and duke it out for playing time with newly-acquired Devan Dubnyk. Mazanec could be the Preds' goalie of the future and the team obviously wanted him playing every game. Jan 18 - 1:14 PM

Marek Mazanec or Carter Hutton will be sent to the minors after the Predators return to Nashville on Friday.

Nashville acquired Devan Dubnyk from Edmonton on Wednesday and he's expected to serve as the team's number one goaltender while Pekka Rinne remains sidelined. Mazanec has the better numbers of the two, but that doesn't mean that he wouldn't benefit from more playing time in the AHL.
Jan 16 - 12:02 PM

Marek Mazanec allowed four goals on 23 shots Sunday night as the Predators were dumped by Minnesota by a score of 4-0.

Mazanec has been the Predators' best option in goal while Pekka Rinne nurses his hip injury, but that's not saying much considering he holds a 2.80 GAA and a .902 save percentage. His record falls to 8-10-4 with the loss.
Jan 12 - 9:41 PM

Marek Mazanec made 20 saves in the Predators' 2-1 shootout loss to the Senators on Saturday night.

The young netminder gave up a goal late in the second period and came up short in the skills competition. This was Mazanec's finest outing in well over a month, as plus-.900 save percentage performances have been few and far between. He has a 2.75 goals-against average and .904 save percentage this year.
Jan 11 - 10:11 PM

Marek Mazanec was first off the ice in Saturday morning's practice.

That means he will get the start against the Senators Saturday night. Adjust your goaltending rotation accordingly.
Jan 11 - 1:35 PM

Marek Mazanec allowed four goals on 28 shots in a 4-3 loss to Anaheim on Thursday.

The loss was the third in four starts for the Nashville goalkeeper, whose record falls to 8-9-3 as a result. Mazanec's GAA on the season is now 2.84 while his save percentage is .903.
Jan 9 - 10:54 PM

Marek Mazanec improved his record to 8-8-3 on the 2013-14 season thanks to the Nashville Predators' 3-2 win against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

Considering Barry Trotz's harsh recent comments toward Carter Hutton, it wouldn't be shocking if Mazanec received a longer look in the Nashville net. It's tough to rely on either netminder, or the team as whole, though.
Jan 8 - 12:22 AM

Marek Mazanec allowed four goals in the Predators' 5-4 shootout loss to Florida on Saturday night.

Mazanec made 25 saves. Despite the result, he's helped Nashville earn points in his last three outings. The rookie has a 2.77 goals-against average and .906 save percentage this season.
Jan 4 - 10:22 PM

Marek Mazanec was beaten for three goals on 25 shots in Thursday's 3-2 overtime defeat at the hands of the Boston Bruins.

Mazanec had won his two previous outings entering this game, but a matchup against Boston is a tough assignment for anyone. His record falls to 7-8-2 with the defeat while his GAA is 2.77 and his save percentage is .906.
Jan 2 - 10:25 PM

Marek Mazanec will be in goal again for Nashville Thursday night.

He has won his last two starts, so it was an easy decision for coach Barry Trotz to go back to him for Thursday's match against Boston.
Jan 2 - 1:42 PM

Marek Mazanec and the Predators held off Detroit for a 6-4 win Monday night.

Mazanec stopped 21 of 25 shots in the win and has become the de facto starter for Nashville while Pekka Rinne nurses his injury. His record is 7-8-1 while his GAA is 2.76 and his save percentage is .907.

Although it is not official, we would be very surprised if Marek Mazanec was not in goal Monday night against Detroit.

He played very well in a 3-2 win over the Kings Saturday night and is outplaying Carter Hutton at the moment. Mazanec also shut out the Wings 2-0 earlier in the season.

With his strong game against the Kings Saturday night Marek Mazanec may have earned a few more starts.

Preds' coach Barry Trotz was certainly impressed with his young goaltender's effort. "I think he [Mazanec] made some timely saves when he needed to, and he was calm back there," Trotz said. "From our standpoint, it was a culmination of solid goaltending and a desperate, competitive team going against a fresh, veteran team." Mazanec should be in line to start against the Red Wings on Monday.

Marek Mazanec made 26 saves in the Predators' 3-2 win over the Kings on Saturday night.

The Predators aren't scoring enough, so there's even more pressure on their inexperienced netminders to be flawless. Mazanec's win was his first since Nov. 27. He has a 2.68 goals-against average and .911 save percentage this season.

Updating an earlier item, Marek Mazanec will in fact get the start against the Kings Saturday night.

Stu Grimson, the Predators' color analyst, just confirmed it.
