Valeri Nichushkin was back in Dallas on Friday and seemed to be pain-free following his November hip surgery.
It is good to hear Nichushkin was pain free but he still has a long way back before he can play competitive hockey again. Even the most optimistic prognosis does not have him playing again until early April. That said, it is nice to see that things are going in the right direction for the talented Russian sophomore. Valeri Nichushkin needs hip surgery and is expected to miss four months.

Nichushkin hasn’t been right all season, playing in just four games. The Stars say the 19-year-old will undergo surgery next week, meaning in the best-case scenario, he’ll be able to play a few weeks at the end of the season. It’s a big blow to the Stars (and fantasy owners, too), as Nichushkin was a breakout candidate, especially with the chance to play with centers Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza. He had 34 points in 79 games last year. Outside of long-term leagues, there really isn't a point in stashing him.
Nov 15 - 8:46 PM

The Dallas Stars have placed Valeri Nichushkin on injured reserve.

Nichushkin has been battling a groin injury for a while. The Stars have been slumping recently and they need their young winger back as soon as possible. The injury has limited the 19-year-old to just four games this season.
Nov 9 - 6:05 PM

Valeri Nichushkin will stay off the ice for at least 2-3 days to allow his strained groin muscle to heal.

This has been a lingering injury for Nichushkin since training camp and it doesn't appear to be getting any better. If there is no improvement in the talented sophomore's condition after sitting out a few days, look for the Stars to place him on injured reserve.
Nov 8 - 12:52 PM

Valeri Nichushkin's hip/groin issue is bothering him again.

Nichushkin couldn't complete Friday's practice due to the ailment. He has taken part in just four of the Stars' 13 games so far this season.
Nov 7 - 5:38 PM

Valeri Nichushkin played in his first game since Oct. 11 on Tuesday night in a 3-1 loss to Los Angeles.

"I thought Val skated well. Those hands weren't were we needed them," said coach Lindy Ruff. "He had a couple of tough plays tonight including on the third goal. I didn't know what to expect. He's missed a lot of hockey. There were times where I thought he skated well." Nichushkin finished with a minus-3 rating in 12:38 of ice time.
Nov 5 - 10:13 AM

Look for Valeri Nichushkin (hip/groin) to play in Tuesday's game.

Nichushkin already participated in a two-game conditioning stint at the AHL level, so he shouldn't be too rusty. He's projected to play alongside Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin.
Nov 4 - 3:05 PM

Valeri Nichushkin is back up with the Dallas Stars after playing in two AHL games over the weekend.

"Val got through the weekend OK and in practice looked pretty good, but he's still a little bit behind on the conditioning," coach Lindy Ruff said. Tyler Seguin missed Monday's practice after getting his wisdom teeth removed, so Nichushkin skated on the top line with Jamie Benn and Jason Spezza. It isn't clear if Nichushkin will be available to return on Tuesday at this time.
Nov 3 - 6:16 PM

The eventual return to the lineup of Valeri Nichushkin may prompt Dallas coach Lindy Ruff to shuffle his top two lines.

He may split up the Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza unit and inject Ales Hemsky or Nichushkin in Spezza's place. Of course this may not happen for a week or so as Nichushkin's first game on a conditioning stint with Texas of the AHL didn't go so well Friday night. He didn't register a point and was minus two.
Nov 1 - 1:11 PM

Valeri Nichushkin (hip/groin) will play for AHL Texas on Friday.

It will be Nichushkin's first game since Oct. 11. He might return to the Dallas Stars in time for Tuesday's contest.
Oct 31 - 3:29 PM

Valeri Nichushkin (hip/groin) has been activated by the Stars and sent to AHL Texas on a conditioning assignment.

He has been out of action since Oct. 11 due to a hip/groin issue. Nichushkin will get back into game shape in the minors before rejoining the big club.
Oct 30 - 4:27 PM

Valeri Nichushkin (hip/groin) was on the ice for practice Monday.

Coach Lindy Ruff doesn't expect Nichushkin to play this week. He played in just two games before he was shut down with a hip/groin ailment.
Oct 27 - 6:51 PM

Valeri Nichushkin (hip/groin) has been skating on his own and he's making progress.

He won't play during Dallas' two-game road trip to play New Jersey (Friday) and the New York Islanders (Saturday), but he might be back at practice shortly afterward. Nichushkin hasn't played since Oct. 11.
Oct 23 - 12:55 PM

The Dallas Stars placed Valeri Nichushkin on injured reserve on Sunday.

The 19-year-old has been out with a groin injury since October 11th. He was originally supposed to miss a week to a week and half.
Oct 19 - 6:17 PM

Valeri Nichushkin (groin) could return to practice at some point this week.

Nichushkin has been dealing with a groin/hip injury and hasn't played since October 11th. The 19-year-old is pointless in two games this season.
