Valeri Nichushkin may start the 2014-15 campaign with Jason Spezza.
The Stars were apparently interested in Ales Hemsky before they acquired Spezza for the purpose of playing him with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. That combination will probably start training camp together. Nichushkin had some success with Benn and Seguin during his rookie season, but playing with Spezza is a great consolation prize. Forward Valeri Nichushkin is a popular choice among hockey people to have a breakout season in 2014-15.

The 10th overall selection in the 2013 draft played the entire year in the NHL as an 18-year-old, amassing 34 points in 79 contests, but also showing immense promise along the way. Television analyst Mike Johnston described Nichushkin's prospects for the coming year and gave a glowing review, saying "His ceiling is higher than that of most young players in the league, and as he continues to grow into his six-foot-four frame, he’ll become more and more dangerous." If anyone in your league has soured on the youngster after a perceived disappointing rookie season, let that be your opportunity to pounce.
Aug 10 - 5:18 PM

Valeri Nichushkin registered his first career Stanley Cup Playoffs goal on Monday night.

He scored late in the second period of Game 3 in Dallas' 3-0 triumph to get back into the series against Anaheim. Nichushkin has two points in three games. The rookie winger recorded 14 goals and 34 points in 79 games during the regular season.
Apr 22 - 9:21 AM

Valeri Nichushkin earned an assist in his first NHL playoff game Wednesday night.

He helped set up Tyler Seguin's goal in the third period and finished with four shots in 15:49 of ice time. Nichushkin had 14 goals and 34 points in 79 games during the regular season.
Apr 17 - 12:12 PM

Valeri Nichushkin was skating on the top line in practice Saturday.

He was playing alongside Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin due to Rich Peverley's unavailability. Needless to say, if Nichushkin can keep this gig he is a must add in all pools regardless of format.
Mar 15 - 1:01 PM

With Rich Peverley skating alongside Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin on the Stars' first line, Valeri Nichushkin has moved down in the lineup.

The talented Russian rookie will skate on a line centered by Shawn Horcoff with veteran Ray Whitney on the left side. That's certainly not going to enhance Nichuskin's fantasy value. The Stars will ice the following two other lines: Erik Cole-Cody Eakin-Alex Chiasson, and Antoine Roussel-Ryan Fiddler-Ryan Garbutt. Adjust your lineup accordingly.
Mar 8 - 11:42 AM

Valeri Nichushkin will be in the lineup for Russia on Thursday.

It was thought that Nichushkin would be the odd man out but the Russians will opt to sit Alexander Svitov and Viktor Tikhonov instead. If this is the case, Russia will go with 12 forwards and eight defensemen Thursday when they play Slovenia in Sochi.
Feb 13 - 4:32 AM

Valeri Nichushkin appears as though he'll be a healthy scratch when Russia plays Slovenia on Thursday.

Alexander Svitov is expected to join him in the press box. The two of them haven't been featured prominently in line rushes during practices. If you recall, there was reportedly some disagreement within Russia about Nichushkin's selection to the Olympic team. Coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov wasn't a supporter of the Dallas rookie being on the roster, so making him a healthy scratch wouldn't be much of a surprise.
Feb 12 - 10:29 AM

Valeri Nichushkin scored for the Stars in their 2-1 win over the Coyotes on Saturday night.

There are nights when he's quiet, and then there are those when he's noticed and difficult to contain. The inconsistency is not unusual for a young player, especially one who is only 18 years old in his first season. Still, with 12 goals, 27 points and a plus-15 rating, the 2013 10th-overall pick is having a fine year. Forty-one-year-old Ray Whitney also scored for Dallas. Brenden Dillon, Trevor Daley and Jamie and Jordie Benn notched assists.
Feb 8 - 11:00 PM

Valeri Nichushkin scored a goal in Dallas' 2-1 overtime loss to San Jose Wednesday night.

Rookie Nichushkin now has 12 goals and 15 assists in 54 games this season. He plays in Dallas' top line with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn so he has a great chance to keep scoring. Defenseman Trevor Daley and Seguin assisted the lone goal for Dallas.
Feb 6 - 3:31 AM

Valeri Nichushkin has settled back in on the Stars' top line.

He looked really good against the Maple Leafs and will line up alongside Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn against the Penguins Saturday night. Dallas' other lines will be as follows: Antoine Roussel-Cody Eakin-Ryan Garbutt, Erik Cole-Vern Fiddler-Ray Whitney and Rich Peverley-Shawn Horcoff-Alex Chiasson. Adjust your roster accordingly.
Jan 25 - 2:09 PM

Valeri Nichushkin registered two goals and an assist in Dallas' dominating 7-1 win over Toronto on Thursday.

It was the first multi-goal game of his NHL career. Nichushkin was playing in his second match after sitting as a healthy scratch for two games in a row because he was feeling fatigued. The rookie forward hadn't earned a point in six straight contests going into Thursday's meeting with the Leafs. He has 11 goals and 25 points in 48 games.
Jan 24 - 8:28 AM

Valeri Nichushkin will be reinserted into the Stars' lineup after spending two games as a healthy scratch.

Nichushkin has nine goals and 22 points in 46 games this season. Stars coach Lindy Ruff said that he felt that Nichushkin needed a breather to get his energy level back up. He will play alongside Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin on Tuesday.
Jan 21 - 5:05 PM

Valeri Nichushkin will sit as a healthy scratch again Monday.

"I think because where his energy level has been, I'm not going to play him in back-to-back games," coach Lindy Ruff said. "So he'll go back in tomorrow." The Stars host Minnesota on Tuesday night. Ruff also liked the job Dustin Jeffrey did in the lineup on Saturday when he played in Nichushkin's place.
Jan 20 - 3:33 PM

It is probable that Valeri Nichushkin will be back in the Dallas lineup for Monday's game against Nashville.

Dallas coach Lindy Ruff just wanted to give the rookie sensation a breather as he seemed tired and stressed after playing more games than he has at anytime in his past. Nichushkin's production has also dipped and Ruff is hoping a brief rest will energize the 18-year-old. Don't do anything rash with Nichushkin. This is a small blip on his road to stardom.
