Coach Lindy Ruff is expecting Valeri Nichushkin's offense to pick up.
"I really like the way he's playing, and if he continues to play that way, he will score more goals," Ruff said. "He's dominating play down low, and he's in on one or two good chances a game. It's on my shoulders to get him on one of the power play units, but he's working his way toward that direction." Nichushkin has a goal and an assist in his last two games to give him five points in 18 contests. He is trying to battle back from a slow start to the year. Nov 20 - 9:58 AM

Valeri Nichushkin finally scored his first goal of the season in Sunday's 4-1 win over Detroit.

It only took 12 games and nearly two dozen shots to finally tickle the twine for Nichushkin, even his goal today took several whacks. Through the first 100 games of his career, the youngster now has 15 goals and 38 points.
Nov 8 - 7:59 PM

Valeri Nichushkin practiced on Dallas' fourth line Saturday morning.

He skated alongside Devin Shore and Radek Faksa. That's not going to do much for Nichushkin's fantasy value. We would bench the talented Russian youngster until he shows some signs of offensive life.
Nov 7 - 12:55 PM

Valeri Nichushkin will draw back into the lineup Saturday.

He was back with Jason Spezza during Friday's practice, but it's unclear where he will play against Florida. Nichushkin, who has no points in two games this year, has been scratched for the past two matches.
Oct 16 - 3:38 PM

Valeri Nichushkin will be a healthy scratch on Thursday.

It's Nichushkin's second straight game in the press box. "I want to get him back in, I want to get him playing but I think I have to get his head in the right place first," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. Nichushkin has a lot of potential, but this season might prove to be a stepping stone campaign for him after he missed most of 2014-15.
Oct 15 - 5:42 PM

Valeri Nichushkin, Jamie Oleksiak, and Patrik Nemeth will each watch their Stars take on the Oilers from the stands on Tuesday night.

Nichushkin is still trying to re-establish himself as a regular force since missing nearly all of last season to an injury. It's possible he needs more time to get into shape. Oleksiak meanwhile, for all his hype, has not yet lived up to it. They're both worthy of being on your radar but wait for them to warm up first.

Oct 13 - 8:28 PM

Valeri Nichushkin has been bumped to the Stars' fourth line after starting on the second unit with Jason Spezza and Patrick Sharp.

"Val has really been struggling. I've been trying to help him by shifting him around," coach Lindy Ruff said. "He had some struggles early in camp on right wing, so I put him on left, and he doesn't seem real comfortable at left right now. His game, everything has got to get a little bit quicker." He skated with Travis Moen, Vernon Fiddler and Colton Sceviour during Monday's practice, which means he could be scratched soon if he doesn't turn things around.
Oct 12 - 6:52 PM

Valeri Nichushkin scored late in Dallas' 3-2 preseason loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday night.

The 20-year-old former 10th overall pick should be in line for a productive season that might be a bit under the radar now at fantasy draft time, since he sat out most of last year with an injury. With that much talent and a top-six role, Nichushkin's preseason success could easily transfer over later in the month.
Oct 1 - 11:07 PM

Valeri Nichushkin opened Dallas' training camp on a line with Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky.

Although it is early, it is an indication as to what Stars' coach Lindy Ruff is thinking. Nichushkin missed most of last season with a hip injury that required surgery but he is reportedly feeling healthy and fit coming into camp. If he can stay healthy and keep this gig, Nichushkin could be poised for a breakout season. The fact that Nichushkin is playing alongside Hemsky and Spezza also supports the position that Patrick Sharp will line up on the the Stars' top unit alongside Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn.
Sep 19 - 11:26 AM

Dallas Stars forward Valeri Nichushkin says his surgically repaired hip is "feeling great."

His 2014-15 season was largely aborted, as he only appeared in eight games after a promising rookie year. Nichushkin is an awfully interesting wild card, especially if he can manage to make his way into a stacked Stars' top six forward group.
Aug 29 - 1:22 PM

The Dallas Stars are expecting big things from Valeri Nichushkin when the 2015-2016 season commences.

Nichushkin played in just eight games last season after scoring 14 goals and 20 assists in 79 games played during his 2013-2014 rookie year. The Stars have added scorer, Patrick Sharp, to an already above-average offense that included Jamie Benn and Jason Spezza, which should only boost Nichushkin's game. If he is able to win a top-six spot with the Stars' forwards, the 6-foot-4 Russian could be in line for a huge offensive year. Stars GM Jim Nill is expecting big things from him: "We've got high expectations for him. He ended up playing in the last four games of the season and it was great to see the chemistry that he, Jason Spezza, and Ales Hemsky had. They played together and it was amazing to watch. We're excited. We think that they could be something special."

Aug 15 - 5:49 PM

Valeri Nichushkin was selected to represent Team Russia at the upcoming IIHF World Hockey Championships in the Czech Republic.

He missed most of the season following hip surgery but is a bright young talent the Russians want to see on the ice. Nichushkin makes for a nice sleeper pick in hockey pool drafts next season as he has the potential to register 50-plus points if he can stay healthy.
Apr 18 - 12:04 PM

Valeri Nichushkin is expected to be back in the Stars lineup Wednesday night versus the Anaheim Ducks.

With the Stars officially eliminated from playoff contention, head coach Lindy Ruff will insert Nichushkin back into the lineup. The 20-year-old winger has played in just six games this season, picking up one assist. He's played in two games since November 6th of 2014 as he missed time due to hip surgery and then was unable to crack the Stars lineup when healthy. In the morning skate, he was on the top line with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, so he could be worth a flyer in daily leagues.
Apr 8 - 9:01 PM

Valeri Nichushkin was a healthy scratch Monday.

He played in back-to-back games for Dallas last weekend and earned an assist in his first game back. Nichushkin has been limited to just six games this season because of hip surgery.
Apr 7 - 3:29 PM

Valeri Nichushkin will return to the Dallas lineup Friday night against St. Louis.

It will be the first time the talented youngster will play since he underwent surgery to repair his hip that has kept him out all season. Nichushkin will play on the Stars' fourth line alongside Travis Moen and Colton Sceviour. Considering how long Nichushkin has been out of action, we would wait to see how he does before running to pick him up or activate him.
