Flyers forward Michael Raffl failed to score a goal against the Blackhawks Tuesday, but he did lead the team in shots on goal with five in the contest.
The 25-year-old Austrian was moved to the team's top line early on in the season and has played alongside Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek for the majority of the campaign. Despite the favorable assignment, he has managed to score just two goals and has failed to record an assist to-date. He's not worth a roster spot at this time. Oct 22 - 12:37 AM

Michael Raffl scored his first of the season Saturday in a 4-3 shootout loss to Montreal.

Flyers coach Craig Berube moved Raffl to the top line Saturday alongside Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek and he responded with the goal. Raffl replaced Brayden Schenn on the line. Look for Raffl to play here this week but if the Flyers lack of winning continues, more changes may be in store.

A year ago, Michael Raffl was living in near anonymity in Leksand - a quiet town of 5,934 residents in the middle of freezing Sweden.

Raffl led his Swedish Elite League team in scoring, but had not yet popped up on the NHL radar. Time was running out. He was already 24, reaching the age where few players stop being viewed as prospects. "You should have seen that place," Raffl said. "There was nothing going on. I couldn't even go to dinner at night, everything closed early." One year later, Raffl has played in 60 NHL games and signed a 2-year contract extension that will pay him $2.2 million. Raffl has nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 59 games. "I think he's done a really good job," coach Craig Berube said. "He's skating really well. He's on top of people. He's forechecking hard. He's getting some opportunities to score. He's doing a good job killing penalties. He's been a valuable player for us for a while." Raffl has the energy and consistency of a fourth-line player, but the skill to create scoring chances for his linemates.

Michael Raffl could see third line minutes on Monday.

Raffl could replace the injured Steve Downie on a line with Matt Read and Sean Couturier. It is thought that Downie may have suffered another concussion on Saturday. Raffl has nine goals and 21 points in 57 games this season.

Raffl has seven goals and 18 points in 49 games with Philadelphia this season. He also has three points in two AHL contests in 2013-14.
Mar 4 - 6:39 PM

Michael Raffl apologized for the "unprofessional" actions of himself and his teammates following Austria's loss to Slovenia in the qualification round of the Olympics.

Most of the Austrian roster was reportedly partying until 6 o'clock on Monday morning prior to Tuesday's win or go home contest. NHLers Thomas Vanek and Michael Grabner were also reportedly part of the ill-timed festivities. Raffl didn't think it was the cause of their loss to Slovenia. "We are of the opinion that this did not affect the disappointing team performance at the playoff game against Slovenia," he said in a translated version of the statement. "But we are aware of our role as role models and should have waited to celebrate on the evening after our last tournament game."

Michael Raffl was held off the scoresheet in Slovenia's 4-0 win over Austria.

Raffl had been effective up to that point with three points in Austria's first three Olympic games. The New York Islanders' Michael Grabner was also very effective with five goals and six points going into this match, but he couldn't solve Slovenian goalie Robert Kristan either.
Feb 18 - 7:43 AM

Michael Raffl netted the game-winning goal for Austria in a 3-1 victory over Norway on Sunday.

He has one goal and two assists in three games during his first taste of Olympic action. Raffl has been averaging 17:25 of ice time per contest, which is slightly ahead of Austrian teammate Thomas Vanek.
Feb 17 - 10:26 AM

Michael Raffl contributed two assists in his Olympic debut on Thursday.

The Austrians lost 8-4 to Finland in the contest, but Raffl clicked with Michael Grabner. Grabner scored three goals in the defeat and Raffl assisted on two of them.

Jan 31 - 9:59 AM

Michael Raffl scored his first career game-winning goal on Saturday.

Raffl has four goals and 13 points in 36 games in his rookie campaign. We can't recommend owning him in standard leagues at this time, but he does have enough offensive upside to warrant keeping an eye on him.
