Alexey Marchenko is expected to miss seven-to-10 days with an oblique strain.
He scored his first NHL goal in Saturday's game against Nashville and logged 12:47 of ice time, but he was apparently injured in that match. Marek Zidlicky's acquisition from New Jersey on Monday could send Marchenko when he's ready to return. Mar 3 - 9:46 AM

Alexey Marchenko scored his first NHL goal in Saturday's win against Nashville.

Marchenko's third period goal was a big one, as he tied the game at three at the 3:56 mark of the period. The 23-year-old has earned Mike Babcock's praise for being steady defensively so it's nice to see him chip in with some points every so often.
Mar 1 - 11:25 AM

Mike Babcock has been very impressed with Alexey Marchenko's play of late.

"I like him," Babcock said. "He's never in the scoring chances against. I actually like him better after the game, when I watch the tape, than I like him during the game. He's go to get quicker, but he's really smart. In practice the other day, he was our best d-man in a drill down low, 2-on-1, where all kids we call up get eaten up alive. He was outstanding." The 23-year-old has been solid in his own end, but he doesn't offer much fantasy upside right now. He has no points in seven games with Detroit this season.
Feb 21 - 10:20 AM

Alexei Marchenko registered two hits in 15:26 of ice time in his season debut with the Red Wings this past Saturday.

"We knew he'd (be) here eventually," said coach Mike Babcock. "He's a steady, big man, right-hand shot, who knows how to play without the puck." The Detroit bench boss liked Marchenko's game once he settled in and got over his nerves. Marchenko was paired with Brendan Smith.
Feb 2 - 10:27 AM

Alexei Marchenko has been called up by the Detroit Red Wings.

This comes after Detroit demoted defenseman Xavier Ouellet and waived blueliner Brian Lashoff. Marchenko has two goals and 17 points in 42 contests in 2014-15.

Red Wing rookie defensemen Alexei Marchenko, Xavier Ouellet and Ryan Sproul may have a chance to crack the Detroit lineup out of training camp.

There is a lot of uncertainty on the Detroit blueline, especially when forecasting the last two spots. Jonathan Ericsson is still nursing a broken finger, UFA Danny DeKeyser is still unsigned and Brian Lashoff and Jakub Kindl didn't show the Wings' coaching staff much last season. That creates opportunity for Marchenko, Ouellet and Sproul. "I used to say tie goes to the veteran," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said of a close competition for a roster spot. "Now, the best player plays. If you're 22 (years old), it doesn't make any difference. We're in that stage of our development." If any of the rookies make the team they will have little fantasy impact in 2014-15.

Alexei Marchenko is looking to impress during development camp after missing the second half of the season due to a high-ankle sprain.

Marchenko was selected as an AHL All-Star prior to the injury. It was his first season in the AHL after getting his start with the KHL's CSKA Moscow. He might prove to be a valuable defender for the Red Wings down the road, but he doesn't have much offensive upside.

Alexei Marchenko has been returned to the minors.

He was a healthy scratch for Detroit's last three games. Marchenko made his NHL debut on Jan. 4 against Dallas. He saw 13:21 of ice time in the contest, where he had a plus-2 rating and two penalty minutes.

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock had Alexei Marchenko paired with Kyle Quincey during practice in preparation for tonight’s game against the Stars.

With defenseman Danny DeKeyser day-to-day with a groin injury, the Red Wings recalled defenseman Alexey Marchenko from Grand Rapids. Marchenko, a 2011 seventh-round pick, has 16 points (two goals) in 33 games for the Griffins. The 6-foot-2, 212-pounder leads the team with a plus-15 rating. Babcock says all reports have indicated that Marchenko has been the Griffins' top player this season.
