Alexey Marchenko and Ben Smith are projected to remain scratched for Game 5 against Washington on Friday.

Neither have seen any action this series, unfortunately. Josh Leivo will also join them in the press box.

Alexey Marchenko will be a healthy scratch in Game 4 of the first round series against the Washington Capitals.

Marchenko has yet to dress in the postseason, even with the earlier injury to Nikita Zaitsev and most recently to Roman Polak, whose spot is being filled by Martin Marincin. Ben Smith will be in the press box as will Josh Leivo.

Alexey Marchenko will serve as a healthy scratch in Game 3 against Washington on Monday night.

Marchenko has yet to play this postseason, and with Nikita Zaitsev making his return to the lineup, there's one less spot on the blue line. Marchenko had one goal and seven assists in 41 games this season. Forwards Ben Smith and Josh Leivo are also expected to watch from the press box.

This will be his fourth consecutive game as a healthy scratch. Marchenko has one goal and seven assists in 41 games with Detroit and Toronto this season. Ben Smith and Martin Marincin will also watch the game from the press box. None of these three players is worth owning in fantasy.

In nine games with Toronto since being claimed off waivers from Detroit, Marchenko has posted two points with 11 hits and 15 blocks. In 39 combined games this season, he has eight points with 19 hits and 59 blocks.

Alexey Marchenko got his first goal as a member of the Maple Leafs on Tuesday night.

Ironically, his first point with Toronto came against his old team, the Detroit Red Wings. Marchenko has suited up in six games since he was claimed off waivers from Detroit. He has posted just four goals and 20 points in 116 career NHL contests.

Alexey Marchenko will make his Leafs debut on Thursday night versus the Rangers.

He was claimed off waivers from Detroit nearly three weeks ago and finally gets the chance to play because of an injury to Connor Carrick. "There was nothing I could do but be patient and work hard in practice," Marchenko said. "I've tried to adjust to the team and the city, move into a new place. I've been here for the World Cup and playing against the Marlies for a couple of years." He is projected to be paired with Jake Gardiner.

Coach Mike Babcock hinted that Alexey Marchenko could be in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the New York Rangers.

Connor Carrick exited Tuesday's game against Winnipeg with an upper-body injury and Babcock said afterward "that will give us a chance to watch Marchenko." He was claimed off waivers from Detroit earlier this month and his Toronto debut appears to finally be happening.

Marchenko appears to be the new Frank Corrado thus far, as he hasn't suited up for the Leafs since joining the club. Marincin meanwhile has seven points with 23 hits and 27 blocks in 23 games.
