Alexey Marchenko is getting a good opportunity with the Red Wings because of injuries.

He is paired with Danny DeKeyser and the combination could stick for a while because Mike Green and Kyle Quincey don't have short-term ailments. Coach Jeff Blashill likes Marchenko's puck-moving skills and the defenseman has something to prove this season. He can become a restricted free agent in the summer and is no longer waiver exempt after this year, so he has to show he can handle being a regular NHL defender.
Oct 29 - 8:15 AM

The Detroit Red Wings have recalled Alexey Marchenko from the minors.

The Wings had to make a move with both Kyle Quincey and Mike Green nursing injuries. Marchenko will play in Saturday's game in Vancouver and that will be three games in three nights for him as he's placed for Grand Rapids in each of the two previous days.
Oct 24 - 1:51 PM

Alexey Marchenko has been assigned to the minors.

It's believed that his demotion is clearing room for Danny DeKeyser, who could be back in the lineup on Saturday. Marchenko hasn't played in any games with the Red Wings this season.

Alexey Marchenko (lower body) has officially been activated by the Detroit Red Wings.

Apr 30 - 2:18 PM

Alexey Marchenko will play in Game 7 on Wednesday night.

Apr 29 - 12:30 PM

Alexey Marchenko may get back into the lineup Wednesday for Game 7.

Marchenko suited up in the first two games of the series before being relegated to the press box in favor of Brendan Smith. Niklas Kronwall has been suspended for Game 7, so Marchenko or Jakub Kindl, who hasn't played since Apr. 11, will play in his place.
Apr 29 - 10:43 AM

Alexey Marchenko will be seated in favor of Brendan Smith for Game Three against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night. Smith is expected to pair with Marek Zidlicky on the third unit.

Marchenko will be joined by Stephen Weiss, Teemu Pulkkinen, Daniel Cleary and Jakub Kindl in the press box. Of note, Pulkkinen put up eight points in 31 games with the Wings this season, but he also accumulated 65 goals and 120 points for AHL Grand Rapids the past two seasons.

Alexey Marchenko might be in the press box for Game 3.

He has a minus-3 rating after the first two games of the series and he has struggled with his defensive coverages. Brendan Smith may get to draw back into the lineup or Jakub Kindl could get the nod.

Alexey Marchenko has been called up by the Detroit Red Wings.

Marchenko has three goals and 20 points in 51 AHL contests in 2014-15. He also has a goal and an assist in 12 games with Detroit. Given that the Red Wings have already secured a postseason berth, it wouldn't be surprising to see them use Marchenko on Saturday.
