The Arizona Coyotes have added plenty of experience to their roster following the trades for Antti Raanta, Derek Stepan and Niklas Hjalmarsson.
Hjalmarsson has won the Cup three times while Raanta had his name engraved once as a Blackhawk, although he did not see any playoff action. Raanta will give the Coyotes solid goaltending and should see action in 50-60 games barring injuries. "He loves being a part of a team that goes out and wins hockey games," Stepan said. "He loves to be the guy that gets it done. That’s something that he’s going to do in Arizona." Raanta was 16-8-2 with the Rangers last season and chipped in with a 2.26 GAA and a .922 save percentage. Jun 26 - 7:42 AM

Antti Raanta feels ready for the challenge of being a number one goaltender.

Raanta is excited for the chance to play more on the Coyotes. He made 30 appearances for the Rangers in 2016-17 and he posted a 16-8-2 record with a 2.26 GAA and a .922 save percentage. GM John Chayka sees Raanta as a long-term solution in goal for the Coyotes and feels the motivation of earning a new contract will help push him in 2017-18.

The Arizona Coyotes have acquired Antti Raanta from the New York Rangers.

This is part of the larger Derek Stepan deal. This part of the move makes a lot of sense for both teams. The Rangers likely couldn't have kept Raanta beyond next season because when his contract expires and he seeks a raise over his current $1 million salary, it would have probably been too rich for the Rangers given that Henrik Lundqvist already comes with a hefty salary. However, the Coyotes were in the market for a starting goaltender and Raanta has earned an opportunity to ascend to that role. Raanta had a 2.26 GAA and .922 save percentage in 30 contests in 2016-17.

Without a deal falling into place, Antti Raanta was left exposed on the unprotected list on Sunday and is one of the stronger options for the Vegas crease.

Vegas GM George McPhee has plenty of options in goal and might opt for one of the young Rangers forwards left exposed like Michael Grabner, Oscar Lindberg or Jesper Fast. Nonetheless, Raanta proved to be stellar filling in for Henrik Lundqvist last season and could get a shot at the Vegas starting job.

The Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets have reportedly contacted the Rangers about the possibility of acquiring Antti Raanta.

Raanta has one season left on his two-year, $2 million contract and would be do for a substantial raise after that if his 2017-18 campaign ends up being anything like this season where he posted a 2.26 GAA and .922 save percentage in 30 contests. The Rangers likely wouldn't be able to afford that and Henrik Lundqvist, so that's when the two teams would probably part ways. However, there's a more immediate consideration and that's the fact that Vegas could simply scoop Raanta up in the expansion draft. Given the chance of that happening, it wouldn't be surprising if the Rangers traded Raanta now rather than let him be taken for nothing by Vegas. An alternative solution would be to work out a deal with Vegas where the Golden Knights take a different player from the Rangers in exchange for some other compensation like a draft pick.

Antti Raanta could be taken in the expansion draft by the Vegas Golden Knights.

New York will obviously protect Henrik Lundqvist and Raanta has an affordable cap hit of $1 million for the 2017-18 season. "Of course every goalie in this business wants to be the No. 1 guy," Raanta said. "That's the dream, to one day be the No. 1 guy. So need to work hard in the summer and you never know what happens."

Antti Raanta (knee) said he's available to play in the postseason.

Raanta had a bone bruise that prevented him from playing in the regular season finale. "The doctors said nothing else could happen," Raanta said. "Going to have to suck it up and play with the pain." He had a 2.26 GAA and .922 save percentage in 30 games this season.

Antti Raanta has been sidelined with minor knee injury, and won't play in Sunday's regular season finale against Pittsburgh.

He took a puck off his knee in practice but is expected to be ready for Game 1. His regular season ends with a 16-8-2 record with a .922 save percentage and a 2.26 GAA.
Apr 9 - 5:16 PM

Antti Raanta will get the nod on Sunday.

That will keep Raanta as fresh as possible in case the Rangers have to call upon him in the playoffs. He has a 2.27 GAA and .922 save percentage in 29 games this season.
Apr 7 - 3:20 PM

The Los Angeles Kings fired plenty of pucks at Antti Raanta, but he couldn't be beaten as the New York Rangers won 3-0 on Saturday.

Raanta made 30 saves for his fourth shutout of 2016-17. He bumps his record to 16-8-2 on the season. He continues to build a case that he's one of the best options in net among NHL backups.
Mar 26 - 1:11 AM

Antti Raanta is expected to start on Saturday.

Henrik Lundqvist will then play between the pipes on Sunday. Raanta has a 2.35 GAA and .919 save percentage in 29 games in 2016-17.
Mar 25 - 6:07 PM

Antti Raanta allowed three goals on 28 shots in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders.

The Rangers held a 2-1 lead going into the third period, but back-to-back goals by forwards Nikolay Kulemin and Andrew Ladd put the Isles ahead. The Rangers aren't in any danger of missing the playoffs, but they've now dropped seven consecutive games at home. Thankfully, it sounds like Henrik Lundqvist is close to returning to action. Raanta has dropped four of his last five games and he's given up three goals or more in five of his last seven contests.
Mar 22 - 11:30 PM

Antti Raanta will be between the pipes again Wednesday night.

He was in goal for a 3-2 overtime loss versus the Devils on Tuesday. Raanta has one victory in his last four starts (1-1-2), but he has allowed three goals or less in each of past five outings. Henrik Lundqvist should be back this weekend, but Raanta will probably make another appearance against either Los Angeles or Anaheim.
Mar 22 - 12:38 PM

Antti Raanta allowed three goals on 29 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils.

The Rangers never held a lead in this game, but they managed to come away with a point in the standings anyway. Raanta has a 15-7-2 record with a 2.32 goals-against-average and a .920 save percentage. He has three losses in his last four contests.
Mar 21 - 10:38 PM

Antti Raanta will remain in net against the Devils on Tuesday.

Raanta has been a mixed bag of results since taking over the net in Henrik Lundqvist's wake. Raanta's gone 2-2-1 with a .903 save percentage and 13 goals against in that span. It's worth noting that he's gone 2-0 in two games against New Jersey with a shutout and three goals against on 57 combined shots.
