The Tampa Bay Lightning are still reportedly interested in Reto Suri, who plays for Zug in the Swiss-A league.
The Lightning thought they had signed Suri last June, but the deal was rejected by the Swiss Federation because it does not have a transfer agreement with the NHL. "We're not able to negotiate or talk to him about a contract at this time," GM Steve Yzerman said. "His agent is working with the club to see what they can do." Suri is signed with Zug through 2014-15. He has 12 goals and 35 points in 43 games this season and will represent Switzerland at the Winter Olympics. Jan 27 - 5:47 PM

The Tampa Bay Lightning's contract with Reto Suri was voided because the Swiss federation didn't sign on to a player transfer agreement between the NHL and IIHF, according to GM Steve Yzerman.

The Lightning signed Suri a one-year, two-way contract in June, although it's not clear when the deal was voided. The good news for Tampa is the contract wasn't scheduled to kick in until the 2014-15 season. Yzerman said the Lightning would like to honor the deal next year if the Swiss federation reaches an agreement with the IIHF and NHL.

Updating a previous item, the Lightning have confirmed that they have signed Reto Suri to a one-year, two-way contract.

"He's a good skater and a smart player," GM Steve Yzerman said. "He's got good skills and good hands and we like him because he's a very responsible player. He's got good size. He's strong. He checks well. For us, he compliments some of the younger prospects we have coming. He's something we can really use." His deal with Tampa Bay won't kick in until the 2014-15 season because he wants to play another campaign with Zug in Switzerland's top league. Suri wants to continue to develop and to have the best chance possible to represent the Swiss national team at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

According to reports out Switzerland, the Tampa Bay Lightning have signed Swiss League winger Reto Suri to a two-year contract.

The deal would reportedly start in 2014-15 because he wants one more season to develop overseas, which the Bolts apparently agreed to. Tampa has not confirmed the signing yet though. Suri recorded 14 goals and 25 points in 46 games with Zug this past campaign and he had had 13 points in 10 games for Switzerland at the IIHF World Championships.
