Alexander Wennberg scored the overtime winner as the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Minnesota Wild 5-4 on Saturday night.
The overtime winner was rather fluky, with Artemi Panarin's shot bouncing off Dubnyk before being deflected off of Wennberg's belly and into the net. He also added an assist in the win, bringing his season totals to a goal and four assists in five games. It is not irrational to expect the Swede to top 65 points this season. Oct 14 - 11:14 PM

Alexander Wennberg earned two helpers in Friday's 5-0 win over the Islanders to begin the 2017-18 season.

Wennberg assisted on goals by defensemen Ryan Murray and Zach Werenski in the match. He also had three shots and a plus-2 rating. This should be a big year for the playmaking center, especially if he can up his efforts in the goal department. Wenneberg had 59 points in 80 games last year and he should comfortably surpass the 60-point plateau in 2017-18.

Alexander Wennberg played in his first preseason game on Sunday and was on the first line with Artemi Panarin and Cam Atkinson.

The trio could stick together for most of the season, making them very valuable in fantasy. "It’s the first game, high expectations, but I feel like if we can play a little bit more together it’s just going to get better," Wennberg said. "Everyone’s been talking it up that we’d be playing together. Obviously, it wasn’t the best game, but it’s a lot of fun playing with these skilled players." Look for a bigger year from Wennberg who had 13 goals and 59 points in 80 games last season.

Alexander Wennberg will suit up for his first pre-season contest tonight when the Columbus Blue Jackets take on the Chicago Blackhawks.

Wennberg missed the first five days of training camp and spent the last couple of days catching up with the rest of his teammates. He broke out last season with 13 goals and 59 points in 80 games and it will be interesting to see if he could keep up that sort of production. He acknowledged that tonight's game probably wouldn't be his best because of the missed time at the beginning of camp.
Sep 23 - 12:12 PM

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed Alexander Wennberg to a six-year deal worth $29.4 million.

That works out to a cap hit of $4.9 million. Wennberg scored a career-high 13 goals and 59 points in 80 games with the Jackets last season. "We are excited to have signed Alexander to a long-term contract through the 2022-23 season," said GM Jarmo Kekalainen. "He has shown steady improvement throughout his young NHL career and is coming off a very good 2016-17 campaign. At just 22-years-old, he has tremendous opportunity to become an integral player for our organization for years to come." Wennberg should only continue to get better. He's an intriguing under-the-radar option in standard fantasy leagues.
Sep 1 - 7:16 PM

Alexander Wennberg isn't worried about his contract situation.

"Eventually it's going to work out," Wennberg said. "Even though I have to wait a little longer than expected, that's a part of it. But you can't really let that get to your head. Right now, I'm focusing on training and focusing on [this] season and it's going to work out. Time will tell. I'm not too stressed out about it either." The 22-year-old center has been working on getting stronger during the summer. Wennberg is a restricted free agent after completing a three-year deal worth $4.2 million. He produced career-highs in 2016-17 with 13 goals, 46 assists and 59 points in 80 games. Wennberg intends to shoot more and is projected to play with Artemi Panarin this campaign, which should push him over the 60-point mark.
Aug 10 - 4:51 PM

Alexander Wennberg has begun contract talks with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Wennberg is slated to become a restricted free agent on July 1 and while there is no panic at this time, a contract has to eventually be ironed out. Wennberg has a new agent, Pat Brisson, a make the deal for him. Wennberg had 59 points in 80 games this season but was really hot early on with 44 points in 50 games before cooling off with only 15 in his last 30. Look for a 60-65 point season from the 22-year-old if he is not a holdout.

Alexander Wennberg has only one goal in his last 17 games.

Wennberg is part of the malaise that is hitting the Blue Jacket forwards as the playoffs near. Columbus forwards have only five goals in their last seven games with Brandon Saad picking up two in his last 15 and Nick Foligno and Sam Gagner combining for one in their last 10 apiece. Wennberg has 13 goals and 57 points this season but he has slumped of late after getting off to a great start.
