Alexander Wennberg has been moved to the fourth line.
Wennberg has just three points and a minus-14 rating in 19 games, so his demotion isn't surprising. He has a lot of upside and the Blue Jackets obviously thought highly of him, given that he was taken with the 14th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. It's way too early to write him off as far as his long-term projections go, but we don't think it's worth owning him in single season leagues at this time. Nov 25 - 10:30 AM

Alexander Wennberg is expected to shift back to center.

Columbus needs Wennberg there, at least temporarily, given their recent string of injuries. The Blue Jackets are missing centers Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, and Mark Letestu.

Alexander Wennberg has been recalled by Columbus.

He never left the team after he was demoted. Wennberg has one assist and 11 shots in seven games this season with the Blue Jackets.
Oct 27 - 1:44 PM

The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned Alex Wennberg to the minors.

The 20-year-old has played seven games for Columbus this season, registering just one assist. Wennberg was the Jackets' first round pick in 2013, so he has long-term upside.
Oct 26 - 1:45 PM

Alexander Wennberg was only on the ice for three shifts in the third period of the Blue Jackets' 5-4 win against San Jose.

That's noteworthy because it came after Wennberg was moved up to the second line. In the end, Wennberg actually set a season-low in ice time with just 13:46 minutes. He's got potential, but we can't recommend owning him in standard leagues at this time.
Oct 24 - 10:26 AM

Alexander Wennberg centered the second line during Wednesday's practice.

Wennberg is adjusting the NHL after scoring 16 goals and 21 points in 50 Swedish games last season. He's projected to play alongside Matt Calvert and Cam Atkinson on Thursday.
Oct 23 - 8:40 AM

Alexander Wennberg played on the first power play unit Thursday.

Wennberg played 3:58 minutes on the power play to tie Artem Anisimov for the third most power play time, ahead of Ryan Johansen. While this won't last, he looked good on the half boards and that bodes well for the Blue Jackets future as Wennberg was the 14th overall pick in the 2013 Draft.
Oct 11 - 6:51 AM

Rookie Alexander Wennberg now officially has a point in the National Hockey League.

It came as a secondary assist to Artem Anisimov's dagger late in the third, but you won't hear Wennberg complaining. He was second amongst forwards in ice time with 17:44, including 3:59 on the powerplay. The talented rookie also won all of his faceoffs.
Oct 10 - 12:07 AM

Alexander Wennberg could make the opening night roster of the Columbus Blue Jackets, especially if Ryan Johansen has not signed.

Johansen is the wild card as he is a restricted free agent and wants $6.5 million per season while the Blue Jackets are offering $3.5 million at this time. Wennberg was drafted 14th overall in the 2013 Draft and spent last season in his native Sweden where he had 15 goals and 21 points in 50 games with Frolunda of the SEL. He is extremely flexible in that he can play on the top two or bottom two lines and perform well as he is an all-round player. Stay tuned.
Sep 14 - 7:37 AM

Alexander Wennberg has inked a three-year, entry-level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Wennberg had 15 goals and 21 points in 50 games in the Swedish hockey league in 2013-14. Columbus took him with the 14th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. "In talking to Alexander after the season, he made it very clear that he wanted to sign, work hard this summer and then come to training camp to try to make our team. He is an outstanding young player and we are excited to watch him develop in the coming years," said Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen.
May 16 - 5:38 PM

Alexander Wennberg registered two goals and one assist in a 4-2 win over Finland in World Junior action Saturday.

He was selected in the first round (14th overall) in the 2013 draft by Columbus. Toronto draft pick Andreas Johnson produced a goal and two helpers in the contest.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have picked Alexander Wennberg with the 14th selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Wennberg has seen his draft stock soar throughout the season. Considered the second-best Swedish prospect in the draft, the center has been compared to a chameleon by scout Kyle Woodlief because you can slot him in any line and he’ll fit to whatever that role necessitates. Wennberg is an extremely adaptable player who can literally play in any situation and those types are a coach's dream. The lanky pivot could stand to get stronger, but he's a plus skater and isn't afraid to play with some sandpaper in his game. An intelligent player, Wennberg has an innate sense of where to be on the ice, which makes him very opportunistic. An 18.9 percent shooting percentage and four game-winners for Djurgarden proves that.
