Alexander Wennberg (hand) will not play on Tuesday.

Wennberg has an infection that kept him in Vancouver for a couple days after Thursday's game. He has returned to Columbus, but didn't take part in the Blue Jackets' Monday morning skate.

Alexander Wennberg (hand) has been given medical clearance to fly back to Columbus.

Wennberg was stuck in Vancouver for a couple days after suffering a hand infection. It's not clear yet if he'll be an option for Tuesday's game against Anaheim.
Mar 23 - 9:28 AM

Alex Wennberg was unable to fly with the team to Calgary due to a hand infection.

Wennberg has been advised by his doctors to "remain in Vancouver at least a couple of days" and was "not cleared to fly." It does not appear likely that he will play in Saturday's tilt with Calgary, however he could recover in time for Tuesday's game with Anaheim. If so, pick up recently activated Boone Jenner as a replacement. For the season, Wennberg has three goals and 16 points over 61 games.
Mar 20 - 8:44 PM

Alex Wennberg collected a goal and an assist during the Blue Jackets' 6-2 win over the Canucks on Thursday night.

The 20 year old Wennberg now has a goal and five points over his last four games. For the season, he has three goals and 16 points over 61 games.
Mar 20 - 2:26 AM

Alexander Wennberg is considered probable to play Tuesday against Carolina.

He is banged up so he missed Monday's practice and might not be available. Wennberg has two goals and 11 points in 55 games this season.
Mar 9 - 12:32 PM

Alexander Wennberg played alongside Ryan Johansen and Scott Hartnell on the top line Saturday.

The offensively talented rookie was held off the scoresheet after picking up three helpers in his previous two games, but did manage five shots on goal. He has only two goals and nine points in 47 games with a minus-27 rating but do not forget about him next year as he is ever-improving.
Feb 22 - 7:01 AM

Alexander Wennberg replaced Brandon Dubinsky as the second line center on Friday.

The Blue Jackets shuffled some of their lines as Dubinsky was dropped to the fourth line to start the game and Wennberg took his spot on the second unit between Jeremy Morin and Cam Atkinson. Wennberg was strong on the face off as he won 10 of 14. The 14th overall pick in the 2013 Draft is just getting his feet wet in the NHL and while his one goal and five points in 32 games with a minus-16 rating certainly does not bode well for fantasy hockey, he does have a lot of talent and should not be overlooked in keeper leagues.
Jan 17 - 7:45 AM

Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards thinks Alexander Wennberg's lackluster statistics early in his career are misleading.

Wennberg, who was taken with the 14th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, has just a goal, four points, and a minus-17 rating in 23 games. "His first stint up here, it wasn't a great situation," Richards said. "You can look at his stats, but as a coach I look differently at it. It’s really how he's playing. There were games that he was unfortunately getting tagged with minuses, and I'm watching him be in the right spot and doing the right thing but the puck just ended up going in the net. At the other end, he was a little bit snake-bitten, just not being able to score." Wennberg netted his first career goal on Dec. 22. The hope is that he'll start producing more regularly now that he has that monkey off his back, but we can't recommend picking him up in standard, single-season leagues at this time.

Rookie forward Alexander Wennberg scored the Columbus Blue Jackets' only goal in a 5-1 loss Monday night to the visiting Nashville Predators.

It was Wennberg's first career goal. He was the 14th pick in the 2013 NHL Draft and was playing in his 23rd game. Columbus (14-16-3) suffered its first regulation loss in 10 games. The Blue Jackets entered 8-0-1 in their previous nine games, with the previous six decided past 60 minutes, one game shy of the NHL record.

Alexander Wennberg has been promoted by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Wennberg has three assists in 21 games with Columbus this season. He will help fill the void left by Brian Gibbons (knee). In fact, Wennberg might end up temporarily assuming Gibbons' role on the third line.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have sent their number one pick from the 2013 draft, Alexander Wennberg, to the minors.

The winger was demoted to the fourth line a couple of games ago so it should be no surprise that he was sent down to the minors as he played just over seven minutes on Friday. He had only three assists in 21 games this season with a minus-14 rating. He will gain some much needed confidence in the minors and get to play on the top line.

Alexander Wennberg has been moved to the fourth line.

Wennberg has just three points and a minus-14 rating in 19 games, so his demotion isn't surprising. He has a lot of upside and the Blue Jackets obviously thought highly of him, given that he was taken with the 14th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. It's way too early to write him off as far as his long-term projections go, but we don't think it's worth owning him in single season leagues at this time.

Alexander Wennberg is expected to shift back to center.

Columbus needs Wennberg there, at least temporarily, given their recent string of injuries. The Blue Jackets are missing centers Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, and Mark Letestu.
