Mar 21 - 1:23 PM

Per Coach John Tortarella, Alexander Wennber will miss Sunday's match with New Jersey for an undisclosed reason.

Well, that's helpful. We'll go out on a limb that he's either sick or is being disciplined for breaking an internal rule. Either way, he should return soon. In 20 games since the All-Star break he's posted 11 assists and 13 points.
Mar 20 - 4:19 PM

Alexander Wennberg, Rene Bourque, and Justin Falk will each sit out Sunay's match with New Jersey.

Wennberg's absence is particularly surprising as he's scored a goal and two assists over his last two games. In fact, in 20 games since the All-Star break he's posted 11 assists and 13 points. So he could just be sick or a little banged up. We'll keep you posted.
Mar 20 - 4:16 PM

Coach John Tortorella got his wish on Thursday night as Alexander Wennberg shot the puck and ended up scoring during the Jackets' 3-1 loss to Detroit.

Wennberg likes to pass the puck, which caused Tortorella to stop a recent practice and force Wennberg to shoot the puck during a drill. Wennberg now has seven goals and 30 points in 58 games this season.
Mar 17 - 11:12 PM

Alexander Wennberg has scored one goal in his last 21 games.

He also hasn't found the back of the net since Feb. 16 versus Boston. "It's something he's not used to doing, shooting first, but I'm going to beat it into his head to where I see it more consistently in his game," coach John Tortorella said. "He will score more goals and he will develop more offense for us that way." Wennberg has posted six goals and 21 assists in 54 games this season.
Mar 8 - 4:39 PM

Alexander Wennberg scored a goal in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins.

Wennberg scored on a penalty shot at the 9:54 mark of the opening frame. He finished the game with a minus-1 rating, three shots on goal and one hit in 15:58 of ice time. Wennberg has six goals and 22 points in 46 games this season. The 21-year-old is currently riding a three-game point streak.
Feb 16 - 10:11 PM

As expected, Alexander Wennberg has seen his role with Columbus grow as a result of the Ryan Johansen trade.

That move thrust Wennberg into a top-six forward role. "It’s big shoes to fill," Wennberg said. "When you play with the top players, you have to score. That’s what we’re missing right now; we have to score more goals." He did net a shootout goal on Thursday to help Columbus beat Vancouver, but Wennberg hasn't scored in regulation/overtime since Jan. 13. He also has just three assists in his last nine games, so the bigger role hasn't really benefited him from a fantasy perspective yet.
Feb 7 - 5:11 AM

Thanks to the Ryan Johansen trade, Alexander Wennberg is expected to continue to serve as Columbus' second-line center for the foreseeable future.

It's a big opportunity for Wennberg, who is only in his second NHL season. He has five goals and 16 points in 34 contests, but the Blue Jackets think he can improve on that. "Wenny passes the puck when I think he can take pucks to the net," Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said. "He can shoot the puck more. He can get to areas more for rebounds." Given Wennberg's current role, he's worth keeping an eye on.
Jan 18 - 8:51 AM

Alexander Wennberg is set to play in his 100th career game Tuesday night.

He has produced eight goals and 35 points in his first 99 NHL games. Wennberg has three markers and 11 assists in his last 16 matches.
Jan 12 - 5:18 PM

One player who has escaped the wrath of Blue Jackets' coach John Tortorella is Alexander Wennberg.

In fact, he may be the only one earning Tortorella's praise these days after two tough losses this past weekend. Tortorella indicated that Wennberg has been the Jackets' best player as of late. Of Wennberg's strong play of late Tortorella said the following: "That’s great for him. That worries me for the team. But I think some of our veteran guys can learn from our younger guys." That said, Wennberg has limited fantasy value.
