The Vancouver Canucks wouldn't have drafted Nico Hischier or Nolan Patrick if they had won the 2017 draft lottery.
Canucks president Trevor Linden told TSN radio's Matt Sekeres that Hischier, who went first overall, and Patrick, who went second overall, would not have been Vancouver's choices had they been selecting first overall. Linden never mentioned who his team would have taken in that spot. The Canucks ended up drafting Elias Pettersson fifth overall last June. Fri, Aug 25, 2017 06:31:00 PM

The Vancouver Canucks will have the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

The Canucks were booted by both Winnipeg and Columbus from the top three ring despite finishing 27th overall in the League during 2015-16. There isn't much consensus for who should go at their spot, which will only add to the intrigue and anxiousness to their selection.

Vancouver Canucks president and former captain Trevor Linden believes that the team is focused on the long haul, however that might affect immediate wins and losses.

"I knew we had to do some restructuring and put new processes in place," Linden told the Vancouver Province. "That’s what I’ve spent the last month doing, and I’m really excited about the changes we’ve made. Whether they show up in wins and losses this season, I don’t know, but this is a long-term vision."

On Thursday, President of Hockey Operations Trevor Linden announced he had relieved a trio of front office members of their duties.

Vice President, Hockey Operations, and Assistant General Manager, Laurence Gilman, Assistant General Manager, Lorne Henning and Director, Player Personnel, Eric Crawford were each relieved of their duties. "They have been important members of our staff for a long time and made significant contributions to the success of this team," Linden said. "Further still, they are great people and respected members of the hockey community."

Trevor Linden has been awarded The Order of Canada.

It is the highest honor the government of Canada can award a citizen. "I think it's well deserved," said defenseman Kevin Bieksa. "He's been great for the city and for Canadian hockey. He's a well-respected guy and a great community leader. I'd be surprised if that's the last award Trevor gets. It seems like he's still as respected as ever even though he's been out of the game for a few years. He comes back for Markus Naslund's ceremony and gets a standing ovation so it just shows the kind of guy he is, and was." Congratulations to Linden on the honor.

The Vancouver Canucks will retire Trevor Linden's number 16.

"Trevor embodies the qualities we strive for as an organization; character, hard working, commitment, generous and loyal. We are proud that his sweater will hang beside Stan Smyl's at General Motors Place," said Chris Zimmerman, President and CEO of the Canucks.

Trevor Linden will announce his retirement on Wednesday.

Linden played 18 seasons in the NHL and was the head of the player's association when the NHL locked out the players for the entire 2004/05 season. Linden was a very good fantasy player early in his career with a 31 goal, 75 point season in 1991/92 as he added 101 penalty minutes and 33 goals and 80 points in the 1995/96 season. That was his final great season but he managed to stay a good third line player for most of his career. He leaves the game with 375 career goals and 867 points.

Trevor Linden is contemplating retirement.

This should come as no shock as the 38-year-old is just a fourth line player at best and was a healthy scratch for 23 games this past season. We wish Linden well with his future plans.

Trevor Linden may be playing in his last NHL game on Saturday against the Flames.

The 38-year-old pivot will likely retire, although he is not saying anything official on the subject at this time. If he does hang up his skates, Linden will be remembered as the face of the Vancouver franchise for the better part of the last decade and a half.

Trevor Linden scored two clutch goals within five minutes of each other to break a 2-2 tie and lead his Canucks to a 6-2 thrashing of the Flames.

The soon to be 38-year-old proved that he still has a little left in the tank and a flare for the dramatic, as he helped Vancouver jump back into eigth place in the Western Conference. He now has seven goals and 11 points in 56 games this season. Kevin Bieksa contributed three assists to the winning cause, while Henrik Sedin added two helpers of his own. Sami Salo, Markus Naslund, Matt Pettinger, and Brad Isbister also scored for Vancouver in the win.

Trevor Linden was a healthy scratch for the fourth consecutive time.

The soon to be 38-year-old has no fantasy value left. Just an FYI for some old time Linden fans.

Trevor Linden was a healthy scratch on Friday.

That makes 15 times this season that Linden has been well enough to play but coach Alain Vigneault thought otherwise. His stellar NHL career is near an end. The 37-year-old has no fantasy value left in his aging body.

Trevor Linden was a healthy scratch on Wednesday.

Just an FYI. Linden has no fantasy value anymore at age 37. Nathan McIver also sat out the game against the Blues.

Trevor Linden was not a healthy scratch on Wednesday.

He replaced Mike Brown in the Vancouver lineup. He played 11:16 minutes with no stats. It was his 1,100 game as a Vancouver Canuck. He is not worth having in your fantasy lineup.
