The Winnipeg Jets have assigned Josh Morrissey to the AHL.

Morrissey made his NHL debut in Saturday's win over the Canadiens, but he was a healthy scratch against the Oilers earlier tonight.
Mar 6 - 10:35 PM

Josh Morrissey will be scratched against the Oilers on Sunday.

While Morrissey received praise from his teammates and coaches after his debut on Saturday, he still hasn't provided much inspiration for fantasy value. The 20-year-old is still an intriguing option for deep dynasty leagues, however.
Mar 6 - 5:28 PM

Josh Morrissey had 15:54 of ice time in Saturday's win over the Canadiens.

This was Morrissey's first NHL game and he impressed while playing on a pairing with Tyler Myers. The 20-year-old finished the game with one shot on goal, one hit and two blocked shots. "One of his biggest strengths is his skating and I thought he used it really well. It was a great first game for him," Myers said of Morrissey. "He looked pretty calm. He handled it well and looked like he was ready. He went out there and played his game and didn't look like he was thinking too much."
Mar 6 - 9:52 AM

Josh Morrissey will make his NHL debut Saturday night against the Canadiens.

He will take the place of the injured Jacob Trouba. Morrissey has offensive upside as his 22 points in 56 AHL games can attest. However, it is not his time. He is up for a cup of coffee and will be returned to the AHL once Trouba is well again, which could be as early as Sunday.
Mar 5 - 1:28 PM

Josh Morrissey was summoned up from the AHL to join the Jets on Friday.

The 20-year-old defender is in his first full season as a pro and he's done quite well for himself. Morrissey has posted three goals and 22 points with 47 PIMs in 56 games. It's unlikely he'll provide much fantasy value this season but if you're in a dynasty league, or just a Jets fan, you ought to take a look when he gets into a game.
Mar 4 - 9:56 PM

Josh Morrissey intends to impress at Winnipeg's training camp even though the odds are not in his favor to claim an NHL roster spot.

The Jets already have 10 defensemen on one-way contracts. Morrissey hasn't been as busy as he has been in past off-seasons, but he's ready to turn pro in 2015-16. He has lost about 12 pounds in an attempt to focus on his quickness. Morrissey has great upside and it won't be long before the 13th overall pick in the 2013 draft is playing in the NHL. He is likely to spend most of the upcoming campaign in the minors with Manitoba, though.

Josh Morrissey will play the 2014-15 season with the Prince Albert Raiders.

The Jets announced that Morrissey has been sent back to junior. His upside is high, but he won't be contributing at the NHL level this season.

Winnipeg Jets rookie Josh Morrissey says his game has grown throughout training camp, and he hopes he's done enough to make the team.

"I thought I've had some good moments and hopefully it's enough," said Morrissey. "I do feel good out there and the last three days in practice is the best I've felt yet. I feel comfortable and I haven't been hesitant or nervous or afraid to make a play. I feel like I've grown a lot." If the Jets' first round pick in 2013 doesn't crack the team's lineup, he will be returned to his junior team, the Prince Albert Raiders.

It looks like Josh Morrissey will be returned to the junior ranks.

He hasn't looked anywhere as impressive or as consistent as he did during the Calder Cup playoffs last season. Morrissey wasn't able to prove that he could push someone else for their job, so Tobias Enstrom and Zach Bogosian will probably form the top pairing, while Mark Stuart and Jacob Trouba will make up the second unit. Grant Clitsome along with Adam Pardy, Paul Postma or Keaton Ellerby will be featured on the third pairing.

Josh Morrissey is hoping his whirlwind season last year has provided him with the experiences he needs to make the Winnipeg Jets this autumn.

Morrissey played 112 games in total last season, split between pre-season skates with the Jets, the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders, a spring run with the AHL's St. John’s IceCaps and a holiday stint with Team Canada at the world juniors in Sweden. "Last season, I grew a lot as a player," Morrissey said. "I was able to gain a lot of weight this summer — close to 10 pounds. and having the experience in (the AHL) last year, playing 28 games, really helps me out just feeling comfortable up there with the pros."

Josh Morrissey may have a shot to make Winnipeg's roster out of training camp.

The Jets won't rush him, but it's believed that he will make the decision to send him back to junior a tough one and he could end up sticking with the big club if he impresses. However, he may have his work cut out for him as he'll have to stand out over eight other blueliners who suited up for Winnipeg last season.

Top prospect Josh Morrissey has been one of the best AHL rookies in the 2014 playoffs.

Morrissey had 28 goals and 73 points in 59 WHL games with the Prince Albert Raiders in 2013-14 before joining the St. John's IceCaps. He's done a great job adapting to the pro level, scoring two goals and eight points in 15 contests. Winnipeg took him with the 13th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Josh Morrissey has been chipping offensively for St. John's during the AHL playoffs.

He has contributed two goals and six points in 12 games for the IceCaps. Morrissey had one assist in eight appearances for St. John's during the regular season after his 2013-14 campaign with Prince Albert of the WHL ended. The IceCaps are currently playing in the Eastern Conference Final. Morrissey, who was the 13th overall pick in the 2013 draft, may be given a chance to stick with the Jets next season.
