Rasmus Ristolainen soaked up 30:42 of ice time in Tuesday's 4-2 win over Colorado.

The ice time total was the second-highest of Ristolainen's career in regulation and it included 11:09 of special teams action. "He had an edge to his game and he does that quite often," coach Phil Housley said. "He's a true competitor but it was an extra attitude in his game and it's great to see. We're at a point where we've got to scrape for everything right now and that's the attitude we have to go into games with." Ristolainen didn't pick a point in the contest, but he had a plus-4 rating, two penalty minutes, four shots, two hits and one block. He has no goals and seven assists in 19 games this season.

Rasmus Ristolainen wants to get Buffalo's defense corps a goal this season.

Buffalo is the only team that hasn't picked up a goal yet from their defense group. "I've been thinking about it personally for myself why I haven't scored," Ristolainen said. "Early in the year we maybe were struggling with our net-front presence, and I feel that now it's been there. We've got to keep shooting, and one day it will go in, for sure." He has 39 shots and seven assists in 15 games this season. Ristolainen was moved to a new power-play combination on Monday at practice alongside Ryan O'Reilly, Kyle Okposo, Jason Pominville and Matt Moulson.

Rasmus Ristolainen (upper body) will rejoin the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.

Ristolainen was last able to play on Nov. 2. Getting him back is a huge boost for the Sabres as they lean on him heavily. He's averaged 27:10 minutes per game when healthy in 2017-18. His five assists in 13 contests leave something to be desired, but he should start to pick up the pace offensively.

Rasmus Ristolainen (upper body) took part in Wednesday's practice.

Sabres coach Phil Housley described Ristolainen as "very close" to returning while Ristolainen seemed even more upbeat. "I told everyone I'm ready," said Ristolainen. "I'm in good shape right now. I felt good. I felt fresh, and the legs were going. It's been long weeks lately, and I'm excited to get back." Ristolainen was hurt on Nov. 2 and his absence has been a big blow to the Sabres as he had been averaging 27:10 minutes per game. He isn't expected to play on Wednesday, but perhaps he'll return as early as Friday.

The Buffalo Sabres have announced that Rasmus Ristolainen has an upper-body injury.

His status is being listed as day-to-day, and he won't play tonight against the Stars. He has five points in 13 games this season but is worth holding onto because of his huge offensive upside.

Rasmus Ristolainen did not hit the ice with his teammates for their morning skate ahead of their matchup with the Dallas Stars tonight.

Ristolainen was spotted speaking to the trainers after Thursday's game against the Arizona Coyotes. It's unclear what type of injury he is dealing with at the moment and we will likely know more when Phil Housley speaks to the media later today.

Rasmus Ristolainen has chipped in three assists and has a minus-5 rating in seven games this season.

"I've just got to get better," Ristolainen said Thursday. "That's it. I don't think I find one area that's been good all the time, but it's just all-around. I've got to just be better everywhere." Coach Phil Housley likes the defenseman's compete level, but he would like to see him make "more puck decisions, doing things a little faster, getting back harder on the breakout, working for his partner a little bit better, getting shots off quicker in the offensive zone."

Rasmus Ristolainen registered an assist in the Sabres' 6-3 loss to the Islanders Saturday night.

It was Ristolainen's first point in two games this season. He's surpassed the 40-point mark in each of his previous two campaigns and he's a decent bet to do that again in 2017-18.
