Rasmus Ristolainen had a monster of a game during Tuesday's 4-3 overtime win over the Oilers.
In fact, he scored his first goal of the season and it was the overtime winner just 57 seconds into the frame. He also picked up a pair of helpers to give him 16 points in 26 games. Despite the otherwise lack of scoring, it would seem he's well on his way to break his career best of 41 points set last year. Dec 6 - 10:45 PM

Ristolainen has 71 points in his career, including six assists in six matches this season.

"We all believe we'd be better with Risto in the lineup," Bylsma said. "I think it will get done, and I think we'll have him in the lineup on the 13th." Ristolainen has been skating with the team at camp despite being a restricted free agent.

Rasmus Ristolainen and the Buffalo Sabres still have to come to terms on a contract.

Sep 8 - 3:13 PM

Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma said he'd like to give Rasmus Ristolainen less minutes next season.

It's an interesting idea considering the fact that Ristolainen is arguably the best defenseman on the team. "We put him into a lot of tough situations and I think some of the numbers that roll out on him as far as Corsi and possession do reflect that," Bylsma said, "But frankly we played him too much at times. He's not going to like to hear this, but he's not a guy that should be getting 28 to 30 minutes per night, although we did it to him and we put him in those situations." The 21-year-old had nine goals and 41 points in 82 games last season.

Rasmus Ristolainen leads the list of Buffalo Sabres who received qualifying offers on Monday.

Zemgus Girgensons, Marcus Foligno, Jake McCabe, Casey Nelson, Jason Kasdorf and Dan Catenacci were also tendered qualifying offers. Buffalo is expected to negotiate new deals with all of them.

Despite the fact that Rasmus Ristolainen had a breakout season in 2015-16, the talented defenseman thinks he can get even better this upcoming campaign.

Ristolainen didn't like his play in the second half and thought he could improve his consistency starting this year. "The first 40 games, they were pretty good and after that, I was struggling a little bit. I was up and down, some good games and some bad games and that’s what I want to get batter at next year" said Ristolainen. Given that he registered 41 points with an emerging Buffalo squad, including 21 power-play points, an improvement would push Ristolainnen into the elite rearguard bracket in the NHL. It will be interesting to see if he can make that jump.
