Rasmus Ristolainen will be a healthy scratch Sunday night against the Red Wings.
Coach Nolan just wants the young defender to "clear his head" and that this benching is "in no way punishment." If true, that's fine coaching right there. Risto has produced eight points, 18 PIMs, 66 hits and 70 blocks through 44 games this season. Jan 18 - 7:32 PM

Rasmus Ristolainen left Saturday night's game against the Islanders due to the flu.

He fell ill early in the second period. The Sabres are hoping that their young defenseman does not test positive for the mumps. Even if Ristolainen is suffering only from the flu, the Sabres will likely call up a rearguard from Rochester prior to Monday's game against Ottawa. Consider Ristolainen day-to-day for now.

Rasmus Ristolainen netted a power-play goal in Monday's 5-4 shootout win against Ottawa.

He registered four shots in 25:24 of ice time. The goal was his first point in his past eight games and it was his first on the power play in his career. Ristolainen has very good potential, but right now he's not worth playing in fantasy hockey. He has five points and a minus-12 rating in 31 games.

Rasmus Ristolainen reported to Sabres' camp in tremendous shape and seems poised to earn a roster spot in Buffalo.

He showed up 25 pounds lighter than he did last camp and looks faster and stronger than he did last season to Sabre coach Ted Nolan. "Rasmus is one of those kids that looks like he doesn't want to go anywhere but stay here in Buffalo," Nolan said. Ristolainen is in a battle with Nikita Zadorov, Andre Benoit, Mark Pysyk, Jake McCabe and Chad Ruhwedel for a couple of roster spots. We like his chances.

Highly regarded defencemen Rasmus Ristolainen and Mark Pysyk had a rough night Friday in the opening round of the AHL playoffs.

The two top Sabres' prospects were paired together and were minus two in the Rochester Amerks' 4-3 loss to Chicago. It was certainly a learning experience for Ristolainen and Pysyk, whom Sabre management hope will be ready to contribute at the NHL level next season.

Blueliner Rasmus Ristolainen scored the only Buffalo goal in Thursday's 6-1 loss at the hands of the Predators.

The young rearguard is teeming with promise, but he only managed to generate two points, both goals, in 25 games as a rookie. He's not fantasy worthy right now.

The Buffalo Sabres first-rounder gains an unforgettable experience and a little more exposure to top-level competition. It was a strong tournament for Sabres prospects, as Nikita Zadorov had a nice tournament, too.
