Coach Patrick Roy likes the progress that Chris Bigras is making.
"You can tell he needs more experience, especially on the physical side of the game. But I'm very happy with his performance," Roy said. "We agreed as coaches that the more he plays, the more confident he is, and the more confident he is, the better he is playing. He's starting to get more in the rush. He's starting to taking more chances offensively, for example, standing up at the blue line. Earlier he would back up way before, but now he seems to read those plays better and better." He suited up in his 10th game with the Avalanche on Thursday night. Bigras has one assist, five shots and a plus-2 rating since making his NHL debut on Jan. 14. Feb 5 - 9:33 AM

Chris Bigras has been recalled by the Colorado Avalanche.

He has accounted for six goals and 19 points in 37 games with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage this year. If he gets to play with the Avalanche during this call up then it will be the first NHL action of his career.

Chris Bigras hopes to make Colorado's roster out of training camp.

"My expectations are to come in here and make the team," he said. "I want to set that bar for myself and go from there. I want to do all I can to make the team. If it doesn't work out I'll go to San Antonio and continue to take the advise that they give me and build off that." The Avalanche probably won't have room for him at the start of the season, but he could be one of the first call ups.

Chris Bigras has been returned to OHL Owen Sound.

Bigras was taken with the 32nd overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He managed to impress Avalanche coach Patrck Roy with his work during training camp, but Colorado ultimately decided that Bigras would benefit from more seasoning at the junior level.

Chris Bigras has drawn plenty of praise at training camp and he hopes to parlay that into a roster spot for the start of the 2013-14 season.

"My goal is to stay here, but I know I can only control what I do on the ice and not what happens off it," said the 18-year-old defenseman. "I haven't really proven anything yet." Coach Patrck Roy singled Bigras out as the players who impressed him the most on first day of camp last week and in his first exhibition game he logged nearly 23 minutes of ice time alongside Erik Johnson. Colorado was thrilled to take Bigras with the 32nd overall pick in the 2013 draft and he's already showing plenty of potential. The Avs are fairly thin on the back end so they could use him, but they also don't want to rush him into the spotlight too soon.

Chris Bigras is a long shot to make the Colorado Avalanche this season.

That being said, Bigras doesn't think it's a foregone conclusion that he'll be unable to make the team's opening game roster. "I'm not exactly sure. Just going keep working hard, learn some things from this camp, and go back home and continue working out," he said. "If I go back (to Owen Sound) I'll probably have more of a leadership role, try to show the young guys a few things, so it will be fun if I end up back there as well." Bigras had eight goals and 38 points in 68 games with the OHL Owen Sound Attack in 2012-13.

The Colorado Avalanche selected defenseman Chris Bigras with the 32nd pick of the 2013 NHL Draft.

Chris Bigras is a well-rounded, two-way defenseman who can play in every situation. His intelligence and ability to process the game are both impressive. Bigras needs to bulk up and improve his shot. With Nathan MacKinnon selected first overall, Colorado is attempting to address its many systemic problems.
