Michael McCarron scored two goals and an assist in Friday's 8-3 win over the Penguins in the opening game of the rookie tournament.

After playing 20 games with the Canadiens last year, we expected McCarron to dominate during this tournament and he got off to a nice start. "We weathered the storm early," said McCarron. "(Goaltender Charlie Lindgren) and our defence held us in for the first 10, 15 minutes. We were really struggling but we’re together in that room. We’re all good friends and it translates on the ice." If he keeps playing well in the rookie tournament and into training camp, there could be a spot waiting for him on the NHL roster this year.
Sep 17 - 10:07 AM

Mike McCarron, who stands at 6-foot-6, weighed in at 226 pounds on Thursday, which is down from 237.

Typically you hear about younger players putting on weight, but McCarron was a different case. "It’s all about the diet, especially for a big man," he added. "If you’re not eating good, you’re not going to put on muscle and you’re not going to lose that body fat. It’s a really fine line and it took me until I’m 21 years old to figure it out, which is a bit of a bummer. I wish I knew that at 18." He's done things like cut down on carbs and replacing what he used to eat for snacks with things like a fruit or chicken breast. McCarron had a goal, two points, and 37 penalty minutes in 20 games with the Montreal Canadiens last season.
Sep 16 - 9:27 AM

The Montreal Canadiens have assigned Mike McCarron to the AHL.

McCarron has brought a strong physical presence since he was called up in February. The 21-year-old had one goal, one assist and a minus-10 rating in 20 NHL games this season.
Apr 3 - 5:38 PM

Mike McCarron scored his first NHL goal in a 4-1 loss to the Flames on Sunday.

His first career goal came 12:57 into the final frame. It is a well deserved goal for a player who has performed admirably for the Habs the last few games. If he continues to play well, he will push for a job with the Habs next season. Nathan Beaulieu and Phillip Danault recorded the assists on his goal.
Mar 20 - 9:51 PM

Michael McCarron had a solid game in a loss to the Senators.

Head coach Michel Therrien praised McCarron's game. The Canadiens rookie finished the game with five shots on goal and three hits in 15:24 of ice time. He also had a minus-2 rating.

Mar 3 - 9:06 AM

Michael McCarron picked up an assist in Montreal's 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 20-year-old was recalled from the minors on Friday night after the team traded Tomas Fleischmann and Dale Weise to Chicago. McCarron finished the game with five shots on goal and four hits in 10:17 of ice time against the Leafs. McCarron has one point in three games this season. Montreal is likely to miss the playoffs which means they'll probably give young players, like McCarron, an opportunity to suit up down the stretch.

Montreal summoned Mike McCarron on Friday after their trade with Chicago.

With both Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann shipped to Chicago, a wing slot suddenly opened up for McCarron. The 20-year-old has posted 15 goals and 34 points with 82 PIMs in 53 games for AHL St. John's this season.

Mike McCarron played 12:10 in his NHL debut.

He started Saturday's game on a line with Lars Eller and Paul Byron, but was moved around often because the Canadiens were in the process of being blown out (they lost 6-2). "It was pretty much what I expected," McCarron said. "It was fast, but I tried to use my size in front and I felt more comfortable as the game went on." The power forward played nearly two minutes on the power play.

Mike McCarron has been summoned by the Montreal Canadiens.

McCarron has 13 goals, 24 points, and 48 penalty minutes in 28 AHL contests this season. He's worth keeping an eye on as he has the potential to develop into a valuable power forward. That being said, we recommend tempering your expectations for the short term.
