Madison Bowey is looking to make the Capitals blueline out of training camp.

At this time, Bowey is probably the eighth defenseman on a team that will have only seven on its 23 man roster but Dmitry Orlov, who is ahead of Bowey on the depth chart, is a restricted free agent and has not signed a new contract. "I think every training camp is big at this stage in my career," Bowey, who is headed to rookie camp again, said. "I know I’m definitely wanting to prove myself and prove to the coaching staff that I can have what it takes to hopefully be up here sooner than later. You know what, if I can just stick to playing my game and doing all of the little things right, I think it should be good and it should go fine for myself." Bowey is a solid defenseman but did not see a lot of power play time with Hershey of the AHL so it's likely that his fantasy value will be limited at best this season.

Madison Bowey will not be suspended for an alleged homophobic slur against Toronto prospect Kasperi Kapanen.

Bowey is likely to get suspended for an elbow to the head of Kapanen that preceded the alleged incident that got him a five minute major and game misconduct. The Marlies requested the AHL look at the allegation but there was apparently no audio of the incident so the league could do nothing about it. Bowey should get a shot to stick with the Capitals next season. He was drafted 53rd overall in 2013.

Capitals defensive prospect Madison Bowey has his sights set on playing for Team Canada at this year's World Junior Hockey Championships.

Chosen in the second round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, this will be Bowey's last opportunity to make the under-20 squad in the tournament, which will be held in Canada this year. "That’s been my goal for the last few years and this year I definitely want to prove that I could be on that team," Bowey said. "I guess I was pretty close but I just didn’t cut it [in past years]. It’s one of the hardest teams to make when you’re a Canadian and you’re a young guy, so it’s definitely a big goal for myself and I want to try to prove in that camp that I can be there." The Kelowna Rockets rearguard is a gifted offensive talent and could find himself quarterbacking the Capitals power play a few years down the road.

Madison Bowey has gained 10 pounds since he was drafted in 2013.

Bowey, who is 6-foot-2, now weighs in at 205 pounds. In addition to getting stronger, he's also coming off of a great campaign in the WHL. He had 60 points and 93 penalty minutes in 72 games with the Kelowna Rockets in 2013-14. Although he's still a long shot to make the Capitals' opening game roster, he should get into some preseason games. "I want to prove I am close enough," Bowey said. "Going back to Kelowna definitely wouldn't hurt me at all. It'll be another year of development for me and another year for me to mature and round my game so that I can play at the next level. That's definitely what the plan is, I think."

Madison Bowey has agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract with Washington.

He produced 21 goals and 60 points in 72 games with the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL this past season. Bowey was selected with the 53rd overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Capitals.

The Washington Capitals selected defenseman Madison Bowey with the 53rd overall selection in the NHL Entry Draft.

Bowey is an energetic smooth-skating and crisp-passing defenseman with a wealth of hockey IQ. He loves to skate with the puck but sometimes he takes ill-advised risks that lead to scoring opportunities for opponents. He is a tremendous athlete but will need time to develop and add muscle to his 6’1’ frame. Bowey registered 30 points in 69 games with Kelowna this past year and notched four points in the Ivan Hlinka Tournament. He could blossom into a Cody Franson-type player down the road.
