Ryan Hartman, the Blackhawks' first-round selection in Sunday's entry draft, is a local Chicago boy.
That is not why the Hawks chose him, but it is a little added bonus for the player and the team. "Ryan Hartman is a great first pick", said Hawk GM Stan Bowman. "It's a nice story that he's a Chicago kid, but that's not the reason we picked him He's a heart-and-soul kind of guy. He plays hard, he gets under the other team's skin, but he's got a lot of talent as well". Not surprisingly, Hartman was thrilled with his destination. "I saw their name [Blackhawks] on the lower end of the board, and I was picturing my name being there," Hartman said. "I was kind of hoping they'd pick me. I had my palms sweating a little bit, and my mom was a little anxious to hear my name called. Obviously, they're a great team. Being a hometown kid also makes it a little bit sweeter. I'll try to make the jump as soon as possible and see if I can make my fit on this team." Nice story.
