Gustav Olofsson was Minnesota's star of the game in a 6-4 loss to the Blue Jackets in a rookie contest Friday night.
The 19-year-old 2013 second-round pick didn't hit the scoresheet but impressed with Wild brass with a strong overall effort. Olofsson played college hockey last season in Denver and in the AHL for eight games with Iowa and has some modest offensive skills. We don't believe he will be a fantasy factor this season. Gustav Olofsson has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild.

He will suit up for the Iowa Wild of the AHL on an amateur tryout to close out the year. "We're excited to get Gus under contract," assistant GM Brent Flahr said. "His performance this year at the World Junior Championship and at Colorado College exceeded our expectations and we're confident that he's ready for the next challenge in his young career. His skill set really excites us and we're looking forward to seeing him continue his development at the pro level." Olofsson was picked in the second round (46th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

With their first pick in 2013, the 46th overall, the Wild selected defenseman Gustav Olofsson.

Oloffson, who was born in Sweden, played in the USHL in 2013 with Green Bay and registered 23 points in 63 games. He is a big, mobile and puck-moving rearguard who is likely a few years away from hitting the NHL.
