Bertuzzi the younger is still looking for his first point in the NHL through four games, though he does have three goals and six points in 10 games for AHL Grand Rapids this season. The 21-year-old has adapted well to the pros, but he may need a bit more seasoning to become fantasy viable.

The Detroit Red Wings have assigned Tyler Bertuzzi to AHL Grand Rapids.

The 21-year-old nephew of former power forward Todd Bertuzzi, posted 30 points in 71 games in his first full season with Grand Rapids last season. That's good production for one's first full season of pro hockey. Expect his growth to continue, but we wouldn't count on him to be a fantasy asset.

The Detroit Red Wings would like to see Tyler Bertuzzi put together a strong full season in the AHL.

There's been some discussion about Bertuzzi possibly sticking with the Red Wings out of training camp, but it sounds more and more like he'll spend most of the 2016-17 season in the AHL. "He had half a season where he played good in the American League," head coach Jeff Blashill said. "Let’s have a full season. Let’s not rush it if it doesn’t need to. He’ll have a chance in the preseason where he can say he’s real close or not close, and we’ll see."
Sep 24 - 11:27 AM

Todd Bertuzzi likes his nephew Tyler's chances of making Detroit's roster.

"Not to go outside my realm here, but I think he's a player the Wings could use," Todd said. "He's an energy guy, good with the puck, and good defensively. ... I think there's a good possibility that if he has a very good camp and keeps his head small, goes in there and works hard, there's a good chance he shows them something." Wings assistant GM Ryan Martin said the team is high on Tyler Bertuzzi and he added that "it wouldn't be a surprise if he opened some eyes." If Bertuzzi doesn't make the team out of camp then he should see some NHL action at some point in 2016-17.
Aug 8 - 8:44 AM

Tyler Bertuzzi will spend the summer in Detroit training with some of the Red Wings.

"We're excited about that," Red Wings assistant to the general manager Kris Draper said. "He's going to train and skate there, and that's him showing a commitment to us. From there, he's going to have an opportunity to make a statement for the Detroit Red Wings in training camp." Bertuzzi will be one of the Red Wings' players to watch during training camp. He has the potential to be a great power forward in the NHL. He's coming off an AHL rookie campaign where he recorded 30 points and 133 penalty minutes in 71 contests. He added another eight points in nine AHL playoff games.
