Bertuzzi wasn't able to claim a roster spot with Detroit out of training camp because he suffered a wrist injury. He will get himself back into game shape in the minors and if there's no issues then it probably won't be long before he gets a look at the NHL level.

It's a tough break for Bertuzzi who was hoping to crack the Red Wings lineup with a strong training camp. He had zero points in seven NHL contests last season, but picked up 19 points in 19 post-season contests with Grand Rapids during their Calder Cup triumph. After this injury, we would expect Bertuzzi to start the season in the AHL when he is fully healthy.

AHL playoff MVP Tyler Bertuzzi appears to be ready to make the jump to the NHL next season.

Bertuzzi played with speed and skill in the postseason to help Grand Rapids capture the Calder Cup on Tuesday night. "We call him playoff Bert," goaltender Jared Coreau said. "I don't know if it's just his style of play or his will to win, or his eagerness to win, but he just performs. He performs when it counts. He could have five points throughout the year but then have the playoffs he did. I'd keep him around forever." Bertuzzi generated 19 points in 19 games after he had 37 points in 48 contests during the regular season. He will get a long look at training camp.

The Grand Rapids Griffins won the Calder Cup Trophy on Tuesday night.

The Griffins got the job done by beating the Syracuse Crunch 4-3 in Game 6. Grand Rapids was led by Tyler Bertuzzi, who was named the playoff MVP after scoring nine goals during the postseason. Bertuzzi, 22, was Detroit's second-round pick in 2013. He'll be looking to make the leap to the NHL next season. With the Red Wings in rebuild mode, there's a chance he could stick on the roster. He had no points in seven games with the Wings in 2016-17.

Speaking to the media, Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland said he is impressed with Tyler Bertuzzi's play during the AHL playoffs.

"We've had a lot of players who have played well," Holland said. "You look at Tyler Bertuzzi. He has had a great playoff - he's had three great playoffs in a row. Very impressive statistics for a young player." Bertuzzi failed to pick up any points in seven NHL contest this season, but did pick up 37 in 48 AHL games and another 12 in 12 playoff games so far. Holland will likely have a few holes to fill at the start of next season and Bertuzzi might make a full-time jump to the NHL. He is a name to keep an eye on during training camp.

Tyler Bertuzzi is enjoying another impressive run in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

He has recorded 11 points in 10 postseason matches for Grand Rapids after he had eight points in nine playoff contests last year. Bertuzzi has been on the scoresheet in all but two games this time around. He should be watched closely at training camp, as he appears to be due for an NHL promotion in 2017-18.

This isn't his first strong run with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the postseason either. The 22-year-old is up to 17 goals and 28 points in 29 career AHL playoff contests. He's one of the Red Wings top prospects and his ability to step up in big games could be a big asset for Detroit in the years to come.

He has been sidelined since Nov. 26 because of a high-ankle sprain. Bertuzzi will get back into game shape in the AHL with Grand Rapids and seek another NHL opportunity down the road.

Tyler Bertuzzi has begun skating on his own.

The winger has missed the last three weeks with a high ankle sprain and will travel with his Detroit teammates on their upcoming road trip. That said, there is no exact timetable for Bertuzzi's return to action. There is hope he will skate with his teammates over the next week, though.

Tyler Bertuzzi's injury is a high left ankle sprain, according to GM Ken Holland.

As previously reported, he is expected to be sidelined for three to five weeks. Nothing was broken, so he won't require surgery.
