Tyler Bertuzzi notched a career-high three assists with a plus-1 rating and two shots on goal across 19:27 of ice time in Monday's 5-3 loss in San Jose.
Bertuzzi has picked up seven assists over his past seven games, and could be a huge piece of the rebuilding process in the Motor City. His ice time also marked a career best. At this point he is a decent buy-low option in deeper fantasy pools, and he might not be a bad stash in dynasty formats. Mar 13 - 3:06 AM

Tyler Bertuzzi will play alongside Dylan Larkin and Andreas Athanasiou.

Tomas Tatar's trade to Vegas on Monday will move Bertuzzi back into Detroit's top-six forward. "When Tyler first came up and there were injuries, I thought he played very, very well. He slipped a little bit and opened the door for some guys to take his spot and then didn't get much of an opportunity," coach Jeff Blashill said. "I think all Tyler needs, in my opinion, is an opportunity and he's going to get that." Bertuzzi had been playing on the fourth line.

Tyler Bertuzzi was assessed a five-minute penalty and a match penalty for slashing on Friday night.

The Red Wings were up 5-2 in the second period when Bertuzzi was assessed the major penalty, but the Islanders scored four times on the ensuing power play to go ahead 6-5. The Wings managed to tie the game, but eventually lost in overtime. "Heat of the moment and I turned and slashed," Bertuzzi said. "I don’t think it deserved a five. A two-minute penalty, but not a five. It was more or less sticking up for myself and not taking stuff from anyone. A young guy in the league, in the heat of the moment, obviously I regret it. But in the end of the day, I don’t think it was a five-minute penalty."

Detroit plans to keep Tyler Bertuzzi for the rest of the season.

Bertuzzi was told to get a place to stay, as the Red Wings have liked what they have seen from the 22-year-old forward since he was called up a couple of weeks ago. "He's one of those real good complementary wingers," coach Jeff Blashill said. "He can play with two skilled guys, he can be the guy that is a real hard forechecker, he can be the guy who is real hard at the net, but he's got a good skill set to go along with it. He can score, he can do all those things, so you don't lose any of that skill set with him." He has been skating alongside Henrik Zetterberg and Gustav Nyquist lately. Bertuzzi has contributed three assists in the last three games. He is still looking for his first NHL goal, though.

Bertuzzi's promotion bumped Anthony Mantha down the depth chart. "He's a hard player who is smart and has skill," coach Jeff Blashill said of Bertuzzi. "I just think he is a good package. He can be a good piece to a puzzle and I'm hoping he can be a good piece on that line. He's the type of player we need. I like having him in the lineup." Bertuzzi is also projected to see time on the power play Friday night.
