Sergey Tolchinsky could be a player to watch at training camp.
He has impressed the team so far with his speed and skill. "He's been very good, definitely a guy who's trending in the right direction," coach Bill Peters said. "We put a premium on offense, certainly in our situation currently. He's like everyone else – he's got a very good shot to make our team or make a good, quality impression." Tolchinksy racked up 30 goals and 95 points in 61 games with Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds last season, but now the 20-year-old forward is hoping to prove his worth to the Hurricanes. Carolina has announced that they have signed undrafted forward Sergey Tolchinsky to a three-year, entry-level contract.

He will earn $550,000 at the NHL level or $55,000 in the AHL year one of the deal and he received a signing bonus of $150,000. Tolchinsky recorded 26 goals and 51 points in 62 games with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL during his rookie season in 2012-13. He attended the New York Rangers' and the Carolina Hurricanes' prospects development camps as an invitee and he caught the eye of Carolina's brass in the process.

Carolina GM Jim Rutherford would like to sign prospect camp invitee Sergey Tolchinsky.

He wasn't drafted in June but impressed the team's brass at their prospect camp in July. In 62 games with the OHL's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds last year, Tolchinsky registered 26 goals and 51 points.

Sergey Tolchinsky went undrafted in 2013, but he's been a pleasant surprise as an invitee to the Carolina Hurricanes' development camp.

Tolchinsky had 26 goals and 51 points in 62 OHL games last season, but his small frame probably scared teams off. "He’s probably the biggest surprise or explosive guy this week who made people look at him," Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller. "He didn’t get drafted – let’s be honest, probably people said it was his size. There’s a good example of you look at him, you get to know him, he’s got a great attitude and is a fun-loving guy and he plays hard and he produces. He’s a guy that I would say that really made us turn our heads."
