Kristers Gudlevskis has inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Gudlevskis posted a 2.83 GAA and .907 save percentage in 41 AHL contests in 2015-16. He's projected to start the 2016-17 campaign in the minors, but beyond that he might end up as the Lightning's backup goaltender if Ben Bishop walks after his contract expires in 2017 or is traded before that and the LIghtning don't sign another veteran goalie at that time. After Ben Bishop was injured in Game 1 against Pittsburgh, Kristers Gudlevskis backed up Andrei Vasilevskiy.

If Bishop can't go in Game 2, Vasilevskiy would start and Gudlevskis would serve as the backup from the start of the game. Gudlevskis started just one NHL game this season, and it came back in October. The 23-year-old had a 16-12-8 record with a 2.83 goals-against-average and a .907 save percentage with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch in 2015-16.

Feb 27 - 5:18 PM

Kristers Gudlevskis has been called up by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

This is a familiar practice for Tampa Bay at this point. By calling up Gudlevskis, they can temporarily send Andrei Vasilevskiy to the minors to get in some extra work. Vasilevskiy has a ton of upside, but Ben Bishop is the clear starter this season, so that's why the Lightning keep swapping their backup goaltenders.
Feb 25 - 5:25 PM

Kristers Gudlevskis was returned to AHL Syracuse on Sunday.

The Lightning wanted Andrei Vasilevskiy to get in a start with AHL Syracuse on Saturday, so that's why the two were flipped. Gudlevskis will resume his role with the Crunch.

Kristers Gudlevskis has been called up by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

That allows Tampa Bay to send Andrei Vasilevskiy to the minors so he can get in some work. Gudlevskis has a 2.99 GAA and .901 save percentage in 25 AHL games this season.
Feb 12 - 3:25 PM

Kristers Gudlevskis has been returned to AHL Syracuse.

Gudlevskis only got one start over the roughly two weeks that he was with the Lightning. By sending him back down, Gudlevskis will get to work more regularly while Andrei Vasilevskiy resumes his role as the team's backup.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have sent Kristers Gudlevskis down to the AHL on Sunday following the call-up of Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Gudlevskis served as Ben Bishop's backup while Vasilevskiy got some playing time in Syracuse. The 23-year-old has only appeared in one game this season (0-0-1) but fared rather well in an overtime loss to Chicago. He owns a 1.00 goals-against-average and a .969 save percentage at the NHL level.

Kristers Gudlevskis has been called up by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Gudlevskis has a 2.40 GAA and .922 save percentage in 12 AHL games. The Lightning also sent goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy to the minors, so this isn't a case of Gudlevskis filling in for an injured goaltender.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have assigned Kristers Gudlevskis to the AHL.

With Andrei Vasilevskiy ready to return, the Lightning had to send Gudlevskis back down to the farm. The 23-year-old lost his only start in overtime, but he did impress during that game. He has a bright future, but Tampa Bay's crease is crowded with Ben Bishop and Vasilevskiy.

Jon Cooper said that Kristers Gudlevskis was his best player in Saturday's 1-0 overtime loss to Chicago.

The game was tied at 0-0 going into overtime, where Jonathan Toews scored the game-winner. "Gudlevskis was the best player on the ice for us," Cooper said. "He was fantastic. Their guy (Toews) made a big-time play." The Bolts recalled Gudlevskis earlier in the day and decided to give him the start over backup Kevin Poulin (who was placed on waivers).

Kristers Gudlevskis blocked 31 shots in the Lightning’s 1-0 overtime loss to the Blackhawks on Saturday night.

All things considered, this was an excellent performance for the 23-year-old. Gudlevskis was making his first start of the season — and second of his career — and it was on the road. He hadn’t appeared in an NHL game since April 22 when the Lightning played the Canadiens in the playoffs. In two games in the AHL, Gudlevskis had a 2.00 GAA and .930 SV%.
