The Tampa Bay Lightning have assigned Kristers Gudlevskis to the AHL.
With Andrei Vasilevskiy ready to return, the Lightning had to send Gudlevskis back down to the farm. The 23-year-old lost his only start in overtime, but he did impress during that game. He has a bright future, but Tampa Bay's crease is crowded with Ben Bishop and Vasilevskiy. Nov 1 - 12:45 PM

Jon Cooper said that Kristers Gudlevskis was his best player in Saturday's 1-0 overtime loss to Chicago.

The game was tied at 0-0 going into overtime, where Jonathan Toews scored the game-winner. "Gudlevskis was the best player on the ice for us," Cooper said. "He was fantastic. Their guy (Toews) made a big-time play." The Bolts recalled Gudlevskis earlier in the day and decided to give him the start over backup Kevin Poulin (who was placed on waivers).

Kristers Gudlevskis blocked 31 shots in the Lightning’s 1-0 overtime loss to the Blackhawks on Saturday night.

All things considered, this was an excellent performance for the 23-year-old. Gudlevskis was making his first start of the season — and second of his career — and it was on the road. He hadn’t appeared in an NHL game since April 22 when the Lightning played the Canadiens in the playoffs. In two games in the AHL, Gudlevskis had a 2.00 GAA and .930 SV%.
Oct 24 - 11:22 PM

Kristers Gudlevskis will indeed be the starter Saturday night against Chicago.

Gudlevskis has looked good in two AHL starts this season posting a 2-0-0 record with a 2.00 GAA and a .930 save percentage. Gudlevskis does have one career NHL start, last season against Columbus where he turned aside 36 of 38 shots for the win.
Oct 24 - 6:13 PM

Kristers Gudlevskis is the likely starter Saturday night against Chicago.

Ben Bishop has started all eight of Tampa's game thus far and needs a rest. Gudlevskis has looked good in two AHL starts this season posting a 2-0-0 record with a 2.00 GAA and a .930 save percentage. He will be in tough Saturday night against a talented Chicago team, though.
Oct 24 - 12:28 PM

It appears the Tampa Bay Lightning will recall goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis and he is slated to get the start on Saturday.

The Lightning have used Kevin Poulin as the backup to Ben Bishop but coach Jon Cooper stated that the backup goalie at the beginning of the season would not necessarily get the start when the backup would be needed. Gudlevskis was not in the Syracuse lineup on Friday or even on the bench leading to speculation that he was being recalled. The Latvian netminder was 2-0 with a 2.00 GAA and a .930 save percentage in the AHL this season.
Oct 24 - 5:29 AM

Kristers Gudlevskis has been assigned to the minors.

Kevin Poulin will be Ben Bishop's backup to start the season. Mike Angelidis, Jonathan Marchessault and Luke Witkowski have also been sent to AHL Syracuse.

Kristers Gudlevskis (upper body) was able to practice fully on Monday morning.

He wasn't able to participate in sessions over the weekend and said he's close to being back to 100 percent. Gudlevskis appears to be ready to start his battle for the backup job with the Lightning after getting injured at a prospects game last week.
Sep 21 - 11:53 AM

Kristers Gudlevskis' upper-body injury shouldn't be a long-term issue, according to Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman.

Gudlevskis won't practice this weekend though. Assuming he's healthy in time, Gudlevskis will battle with Ray Emery for the backup job in Tampa Bay.
Sep 17 - 7:02 PM

Kristers Gudlevskis (upper body) wasn't on the ice with the Lightning on Wednesday.

Gudlevskis was hurt during a rookie tournament game on Tuesday. He still needs to be re-evaluated, so for now the severity of his injury isn't known. That being said, coach Rob Zettler believed he was just "a little bit sore."
Sep 16 - 12:35 PM

Kristers Gudlevskis will be evaluated further on Wednesday, but it doesn't sound like his upper-body injury is serious.

"He's a little bit sore but he seems to be okay," said Rob Zettler, who is serving as Tampa Bay's head coach during the rookie tournament. "You first see him go down and it's 'Oh boy' but after talking to him, he doesn't feel like it's anything crazy but we'll wait to see what the doc says." Gudlevskis appeared to injure his left shoulder or wrist area after a collision in Tuesday's prospects game. His injury could open the door for tryout Ray Emery or Adam Wilcox to claim the backup job for the Lightning at the start of the year.
Sep 16 - 9:52 AM

Kristers Gudlevskis suffered an apparent arm injury in Tuesday's prospects game against the Florida Panthers.

The severity of the injury is unclear at this time, but it could play a big part in who Tampa Bay's backup goalie is to start the season. Gudlevskis had the inside track on the position after Andrei Vasilevskiy vascular surgery. Training camp tryout Ray Emery may be the best suited for the job now if Gudlevskis is unable to play.
Sep 15 - 4:00 PM

Kristers Gudlevskis appears to have the inside track on Tampa Bay's backup job going into training camp.

With Andrei Vasilevskiy out for the foreseeable future, Gudlevskis should be the favourite to play behind Ben Bishop. "With the injury to Vasy, there is a potential opportunity here for him to stick around, so he has to show what he can do," said Rob Zettler, head coach of Tampa Bay’s minor-league affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. "So it’s a huge year, one, for his personal development and, two, for the opportunity he has in front of him immediately in training camp and, three, just to kind of be the guy that you lean on as a staff and as a team."
Sep 12 - 10:58 AM

Kristers Gudlevskis might have a chance to make the Lightning as the team's backup goaltender.

Andrei Vasilevskiy was projected to serve in that role, but he needed surgery to remove a blood clot and address a type of Vascular Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, so he is consequently out for the next two-to-three months. Tampa Bay needs a replacement for at least the start of the campaign and while they might attempt to fill that void with a free agent signing, if the Lightning decide to address the void internally, then Gudlevskis should get a very long look. Gudlevskis had a 2.81 GAA and .900 save percentage in 46 AHL games in 2014-15.
Sep 4 - 10:21 AM named goalie Kristers Gudlevskis as the Tampa Bay Lightning's No.1 prospect heading into the 2015-16 season.

It makes for an interesting longer term situation in net for the Lightning, as Andrei Vasilevskiy also stands as a very promising asset. If any team can comfortably trade a $6 million goalie (Ben Bishop) down the line, it might just be the Bolts. One would assume that Bishop will get the majority of the reps in 2015-16, while Gudlevskis will continue to develop at a lower level. Injuries may change things, however.
