Joseph Blandisi is looking to be more consistent in 2016-17.

The 22-year-old played in 41 games for the Devils during his rookie season. He had five goals and 17 points during that stretch. He'll look to make more of an impact this season. "If we look across the league, it's a lot of young guys making big booms now," Blandisi said. "So it's up to us to help the team score goals and bring the energy night in and night out. You want to be consistent, and I think that's something I need to work on. It's been my focus throughout the summer."

Joseph Blandisi feels better prepared to play at the NHL level in 2016-17.

"I realize when you come up here, how every day you have to be ready and prepared, and you have to treat your body the right way over the course of the season," Blandisi said. "I kind of fell off the map a little bit at the end of the year, so I think this year I know what it's going to take to keep my body healthy and be prepared for the end of the season." He didn't score a goal in his last 23 games with New Jersey and he went without a point in his final nine appearances. Blandisi picked up 17 points in 41 NHL matches. He is hoping to claim a roster spot out of training camp, but the arrival of Taylor Hall and Pavel Zacha as well as a healthy Mike Cammalleri could make staying in the NHL difficult.

It was originally given to defenseman David Schlemko, but has since been changed to Blandisi on the deflection. The rookie forward has scored four of his five goals on the power play and he has 12 points in 18 matches this year.

It was Blandisi's first game since being called up on Jan. 9 and his fourth career NHL game. It also looked like it would be the day of his first NHL point as he contributed to Adam Henrique's goal, but it was ultimately scored as unassisted. "Joe played well," Devils coach John Hynes said. "He looked a lot more confident than he did in his first call-up. You could see he's got real good puck poise. Again, he was in his game and he had scoring chances, he created some scoring chances and his compete level was high. So, it was a good performance from him." The forward logged 14:50 minutes and spent two in the sin bin for roughing.
