Joseph Blandisi drew positive reviews for his efforts on Sunday.

It was Blandisi's first game since being called up on Jan. 9 and his fourth career NHL game. It also looked like it would be the day of his first NHL point as he contributed to Adam Henrique's goal, but it was ultimately scored as unassisted. "Joe played well," Devils coach John Hynes said. "He looked a lot more confident than he did in his first call-up. You could see he's got real good puck poise. Again, he was in his game and he had scoring chances, he created some scoring chances and his compete level was high. So, it was a good performance from him." The forward logged 14:50 minutes and spent two in the sin bin for roughing.

Joseph Blandisi was impressive in his NHL debut on Friday.

The center played 14:37 including 2:31 on the power play. While he didn't pick up a point, Blandisi did manage three shots on goal. Coach John Hynes thought that Blandisi had a "a great debut" so expect to see him back in the lineup Sunday. Blandisi had seven goals and 16 points in 18 AHL before his recall. While we would take a wait-and-see approach with Blandisi, he is seeing second line time and could be worth a shot off the waiver wire in very deep leagues.

Look for Joseph Blandisi to center the second line in his NHL debut on Friday.

Jiri Tlusty and Kyle Palmieri are projected to be Blandisi's wingers. This is a big opportunity for Blandisi, who was summoned due to the injuries to Travis Zajac (upper body) and Adam Henrique (lower body). Blandisi has 16 points in 18 AHL contests this season after recording 112 points in the OHL in 2014-15.

Joseph Blandisi has been called up by the New Jersey Devils.

The Devils needed another center as Travis Zajac (upper body) and Adam Henrique (lower body) are both hurt. Blandisi has immense offensive upside, as evidenced by his 112-point OHL campaign in 2014-15. As an AHL rookie this season he has an impressive seven goals and 16 points in 18 games. Keep an eye on him.

The Devils are optimistic about Joseph Blandisi's future, but ultimately feel developing in the minors for now.

Blandisi had 52 goals, 112 points, and 126 penalty minutes in 68 OHL games last season. "Blandisi had a very good camp and played well, but he's a young player just turning pro, feels real good about his game, had a great experience here and part of the development process now is going down and getting himself settled and ready," Devils coach John Hynes said. "Part of it's not rushing these guys because he did have a great camp and he showed some signs and he looks like a guy that can give us some games this year if he continues to play well. But, there's another part of the process of development where he's got to do this every night and play key minutes in the American League." That's not surprising, but it will be interesting to see how Blandisi does in the AHL.

Joseph Blandisi scored a goal in Friday's 4-2 preseason win over the New York Islanders.

Blandisi was originally selected in the sixth round of the 2012 Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche, but he signed with New Jersey as a free agent last January. Blandisi had an impressive 112 points in 68 games in the OHL as a 20-year-old last season but his pro upside is rather limited. There's a strong possibility that he will spend his entire first year as a professional in the minors. Mike Cammalleri, John Moore and Reid Boucher also scored for the Devils.

Blandisi had 52 goals, 112 points, and 126 penalty minutes in 68 contests with the Barrie Colts in 2014-15. The 20-year-old forward was taken by the Colorado Avalanche with the 162nd overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. However, the Avalanche never signed him and he became an unrestricted free agent. He ended up getting an entry-level contract with New Jersey instead.
