The Devils are optimistic about Joseph Blandisi's future, but ultimately feel developing in the minors for now.
Blandisi had 52 goals, 112 points, and 126 penalty minutes in 68 OHL games last season. "Blandisi had a very good camp and played well, but he's a young player just turning pro, feels real good about his game, had a great experience here and part of the development process now is going down and getting himself settled and ready," Devils coach John Hynes said. "Part of it's not rushing these guys because he did have a great camp and he showed some signs and he looks like a guy that can give us some games this year if he continues to play well. But, there's another part of the process of development where he's got to do this every night and play key minutes in the American League." That's not surprising, but it will be interesting to see how Blandisi does in the AHL. Sep 29 - 10:33 AM

Joseph Blandisi scored a goal in Friday's 4-2 preseason win over the New York Islanders.

Blandisi was originally selected in the sixth round of the 2012 Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche, but he signed with New Jersey as a free agent last January. Blandisi had an impressive 112 points in 68 games in the OHL as a 20-year-old last season but his pro upside is rather limited. There's a strong possibility that he will spend his entire first year as a professional in the minors. Mike Cammalleri, John Moore and Reid Boucher also scored for the Devils.

Joseph Blandisi has won the OHL's Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy, which goes to the league's overage player of the year.

Blandisi had 52 goals, 112 points, and 126 penalty minutes in 68 contests with the Barrie Colts in 2014-15. The 20-year-old forward was taken by the Colorado Avalanche with the 162nd overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. However, the Avalanche never signed him and he became an unrestricted free agent. He ended up getting an entry-level contract with New Jersey instead.
