The Philadelphia Flyers have called up Taylor Leier from the minors.

He will make his NHL debut on Saturday night. "He's a real hard-working player, a tenacious player, and he'll certainly bring some energy and some speed to our lineup." said coach Dave Hakstol. Leier has four goals and nine points in 14 games with Lehigh Valley (AHL) this season.

The Philadelphia Flyers have sent Taylor Leier to the minors.

Leier participated in two preseason games and the Flyers are optimistic about his future. "He came into Portland (WHL), they had a good thing going with a lot of offensive players and they needed players to play the other side of the puck and be responsible," Flyers director of scouting Chris Pryor said. "That was one thing he grabbed onto. That was one of his strengths. He plays both sides. You can put him on the ice when you are down a goal or up a goal. Those kind of players are hard to find." Leier had 37 goals and 79 points in 62 WHL games in 2013-14.

Taylor Leier will likely not make the Flyers out of training camp but he is someone to keep an eye on.

Leier was a late fourth round pick in the 2012 Draft but has shown tremendous improvement over the last two years with the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL. The 20-year-old had 37 goals and 79 points last season and has even better in the playoffs with six goals and 26 points in 21 games. He should start the season with Adirondack of the AHL but he could be with the big club before the end of the season.

Philadelphia has signed prospect Taylor Leier to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The deal will garner him $2.56 million with an annual average value of $853,500 and bonuses depending on how many games he plays. Leier still has junior eligibility so it's probable that ends up back with the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL this year. He registered 27 goals and 35 assists in 64 games last year.
