Dallas acquired Dillon Heatherington from Columbus for Lauri Korpikoski just ahead of Wednesday's trade deadline.

Heatherington will report directly to AHL Texas from Cleveland, where the 21-year-old has posted six points and 30 PIMs in 38 games this year.

He is expected to be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks. The defenseman was hurt during practice on Tuesday. Heatherington posted 19 points and 50 penalty minutes in 63 games with Columbus' AHL affiliate last season. He will likely to return to minors when he is healthy.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed Dillon Heatherington to a three-year entry level contract.

The 19-year-old won gold with Canada at this year's World Junior Hockey Championship. Heatherington was Columbus' 2nd round pick (50th overall) in the 2013 Entry Draft.

Dillon Heatherington scored the overtime winner, as the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the St. Louis Blues 4-3 on Sunday.

Heatherington’s shot from the point beat Blues’ goaltender Matt Climie to give Columbus the win. The 19-year-old is a long shot to break camp with the Blue Jackets. Kerby Rychel, Alexander Wennberg and Boone Jenner also scored for Columbus.
