Oliver Bjorkstrand scored his second goal in three games Sunday.
Bjorkstrand had a great 2015-16 season and had eight points in 12 games with Columbus so it was thought he would have no trouble cracking the Blue Jackets lineup last fall. Well, he had trouble and was sent to the minors but his recent recall, albeit on an emergency basis, has shown Columbus what they thought they were supposed to get at the start of the season. He is worth stashing for next season in keeper pools. Feb 20 - 7:57 AM

Oliver Bjorkstrand nearly had goals in two straight games Friday.

However, it was called off after it was ruled that the Penguins had possession of the puck just long enough on a delayed penalty. The 21-year-old netted his first goal of the season on Wednesday against Toronto and he generated some chances in a 2-1 overtime win over Pittsburgh. He is playing with Alexander Wennberg and Brandon Saad.

Oliver Bjorkstrand will probably be in the lineup on Wednesday night.

He skated with Brandon Saad and Alexander Wennberg on Tuesday and will play if Scott Hartnell can't because of a lower-body injury. "I'm not sure what the lines are but if we're going to be bring up Bjorkstrand he's going to get into an offensive role," coach John Tortorella said. Columbus didn't have a morning skate, so the lines at the pregame warmup will determine who is in the lineup.

Coach John Tortorella wants Oliver Bjorkstrand to be in better physical shape in training camp next season.

Tortorella thought that Bjorkstrand should be on the top line this season but apparently he was too busy in the off-season playing hockey and not getting into hockey shape and that forced the Blue Jackets to send him to the minors after only three games. "I think where you make your gains sometimes with the conditioning and strength is in the summertime," Tortorella said. "We need him here. Hopefully, he will have a clear summer." Bjorkstrand is replacing the ill Nick Foligno on the top line with Brandon Saad and Alexander Wennberg and should be a top-six forward next season. Don't forget about him, especially if he is returned to the AHL this season when Foligno returns from his illness.
