Oliver Bjorkstrand wrapped up his pre-season campaign with a goal in a 3-0 shutout win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

Bjorkstrand took a nice hard feed from Johnson and put the puck passed Murray to give the Blue Jackets 2-0 lead over the Penguins. Bjorkstrand played alongside Nick Foligno and Sonny Milano during this contest and could start the season that way with Milano having an excellent camp and pre-season. Bjorkstrand has plenty of offensive upside and could be headed for a breakout season with Columbus.
Sep 30 - 6:46 PM

Oliver Bjorkstrand has done well in training camp so far, which has kept him in the running for one of the team's final roster spots.

"The biggest point for (him) is he spent a lot of time here this summer," Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said of Bjorkstrand. "I thought he was more prepared this camp, did a lot of great work in the summer. We kept closer tabs on him. He’s had some good minutes and has had some struggles, just like everybody else on our team." Even if Bjorkstrand does manage to make the opening game roster, he'll have to avoid the same kind of cold start he had at the start of 2016-17. Bjorkstrand appeared in three October games last year, but saw his role drop quickly and was consequently sent to the AHL for part of the campaign. He heated up towards the end of the season though with four goals and eight points in 13 contests with Columbus from March 5th through the season's conclusion.
Sep 28 - 9:48 AM

Oliver Bjorkstrand hopes to stay with the Blue Jackets for the entire year in 2017-18.

"That's my main focus this year, and I believe I'm ready to take that next step and really have an impact on the team, and hopefully I can help win some games," said Bjorkstrand. "As far as personal goals I don't have any. Obviously I want to score goals and all of that, but my first focus is to make the team and help the team out in any way I can." He contributed six goals and seven assists in 26 games last season. Bjorkstrand has generated 21 points in 38 matches at the NHL level over the past two years. He could start the upcoming campaign on the third line, but has the talent to move up so he is worth monitoring.

No surprise here after he was left bloodied by a Roman Polak hit on Wednesday. He went face-first into the boards and didn't return to the game. Don't expect him to play on Thursday night, but beyond that his status is unclear at this time.

Oliver Bjorkstrand has moved to the top line with Nick Foligno and Alexander Wennberg.

Coach John Tortorella has been impressed with the play of Bjorkstrand since he returned to the Blue Jackets on an emergency basis 12 days ago. He has a couple of goals in four games and has been seeing power play time as well. He was highly regarded coming into the season and it appears that it may have just taken a bit longer than originally thought for the play of Bjorkstrand to shine through. He is definitely worth looking at next season.
Feb 26 - 8:22 AM

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored his second goal in three games Sunday.

Bjorkstrand had a great 2015-16 season and had eight points in 12 games with Columbus so it was thought he would have no trouble cracking the Blue Jackets lineup last fall. Well, he had trouble and was sent to the minors but his recent recall, albeit on an emergency basis, has shown Columbus what they thought they were supposed to get at the start of the season. He is worth stashing for next season in keeper pools.
