The Florida Panthers acquired Graham Black and Paul Thompson from the Devils for Marc Savard's contract and a second round pick in 2018.
Black was 5th round pick of the Devils back in 2012. The 23-year-old had seven goals and nine points in 50 AHL games last season. He doesn't have any long-term fantasy value. The trade allows the Panthers to save Savard's $4.1 million cap hit. Savard hasn't played in the NHL since the 2010-11 season because of lingering concussion issues. Jun 10 - 9:43 PM

Center Graham Black is among the New Jersey Devils' top prospects despite the fact that he was diagnosed with Graves' disease at age 15.

Now 21, Black is confident he has beaten the disease by killing it off with radioactive iodine treatments to his thyroid. This past season, he led Swift Current of the WHL with 97 points on 34 goals and 63 assists. The 6-foot, 180-pounder will be looking to take the next step in his development as a first-year pro in 2014-15, likely with the AHL Albany Devils. "I feel like I’m invincible almost because that [disease] tried to stop me and wasn’t able to," Black said. Graves’ disease is an immune system disorder that causes an overproduction of thyroid hormones. For Black, a 2012 Devils fifth-round draft pick, this boosted his metabolism to the point that he was losing weight in bunches and unable to sleep for days at a time. Black began radioactive iodine treatments that "killed off" his thyroid cells. Now, he simply takes a hormone-replacement pill daily.
