Luke Glendening may start the regular season between Johan Franzen and Riley Sheahan.
"We're kind of experimenting with it as a potential line. Obviously, lots could change, health, how well guys play," coach Jeff Blashill said. "I think it should be a real good line, but we'll have to continue to evaluate." Glendening has worked on his skating and his role on the trio would be to retrieve the puck on the forecheck. Luke Glendening skated in all 82 games for the Red Wings last season, but he isn't taking anything for granted going into training camp.

"I don't know if 'comfortable' is the right word; you have to play like you're fighting for your job every day or you won't make it," said Glendening. "I need to make more steps to secure a spot but thought I took a step in the right direction. He had 12 goals and 18 points last campaign after he had one goal and seven points in 56 games during his rookie season in 2013-14. The additions of Brad Richards and Teemu Pulkkinen will create more competition at camp, but the injuries to Pavel Datsyuk (ankle) and Johan Franzen (concussion) has opened some spots.
Aug 12 - 11:14 AM

Luke Glendening played in Games 5 and 6 against Tampa with a 60 percent severed tendon in his right hand.

That must have hurt. Glendening was a real force in the playoffs shutting down all Tampa forwards except Tyler Johnson. He is a fine fourth-line checker but has no fantasy value.
May 2 - 10:01 AM

Luke Glendening (hand) is good to play in Game 5 on Saturday.

Glendening exited Thursday's game because of a cut on his hand that required stitches. He has two goals in four contests in the 2015 playoffs.
Apr 24 - 3:39 PM

Luke Glendening exited Game 4 with a cut hand midway through the third period.

He had been doing a good job of shutting down the Tyler Johnson line before he left and that trio did all the damage for Tampa Bay once he was gone. The Lightning rallied for a 3-2 overtime victory. "You look back now and we came back to win a game so it was potentially a huge factor," Bolts coach Jon Cooper said. Glendening thinks he'll be fine to play in Game 5 on Saturday.
Apr 24 - 8:46 AM

Luke Glendening's shorthanded goal was the game winner in Game 1 against Tampa Bay.

His spinning backhander caught Lightning goalie Ben Bishop while he was moving and the puck went right through him. Glendening had a goal in five playoff games last year.
Apr 17 - 9:01 AM

Luke Glendening scored his 10th goal of the season in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime loss to Arizona.

He has 14 points in 72 games. Glendening was hit hard by defenseman Connor Murphy late in the second period, but he managed to return to the game.
Mar 25 - 9:15 AM

Luke Glendening practiced with Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Tatar during Saturday's practice.

Glendening isn't an offensive player but coach Mike Babcock likes what he could bring. "No, I'm putting Glennie there for sure," Babcock said. "Cause I want someone to do some work ... be at the net, be a second guy to play down low. We're going to give Glennie an opportunity to do that." The 25-year-old has eight goals and 12 points in 63 games this season. He will get a short-term fantasy boost from playing on the top line.
Mar 8 - 11:45 AM

Luke Glendening scored on a whirling-backhanded far-post goal with just 75 seconds left in the third period, giving the Red Wings the 3-2 win over the Sharks on Thursday night.

It was a truly great individual effort, and also one that Antti Niemi nor Joe Thornton should not receive a lot of blame over. Glendening positioned himself beside the right side of the crease as Gustav Nyqvist came around, took the pass as he spun off Jumbo's stick-check, and hit the far corner. Catching Niemi playing the wrong percentages. Glendening now has eight goals and a dozen points on the season.
Feb 27 - 2:29 AM

Luke Glendening scored his seventh goal of the season in Thursday's 3-0 win over Colorado.

The goal was an empty-netter from his own circles, but it counts just the same. Through his first 108 career games, Glendening now has eight goals and 17 points, 10 of which have come this season.
Feb 6 - 1:30 AM

Luke Glendening potted a pair of goals in Tuesday's 5-4 win over Florida.

Both of his markers were set up by former Panthers forward Stephen Weiss. Glendening hadn't found the back of the net since Jan. 6 and now he has nine points in 48 games this campaign.
Jan 28 - 9:18 AM

Luke Glendening scored a goal and an assist in Detroit's 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.

Glendening opened the scoring in the first period and collected an assist on Tomas Tatar's second period goal. The goal was Glendening's second of the season and his first in 14 games. The 25-year-old won't have too many of these games, so you can keep ignoring him in standard fantasy leagues.
Fri, Nov 14, 2014 10:44:00 PM

Luke Glendening scored the only Detroit goal in Tuesday's 2-1 preseason loss to the Blackhawks.

Glendening offers little in the way of fantasy juice despite the fact he'll be a regular lineup fixture for the Red Wings. Danny DeKeyser and Jakub Kindl drew helpers on the lone Red Wings goal. In the crease, Jonas Gustavsson started and played the first two periods of the game before he was replaced by Petr Mrzek for the third frame an overtime.
Tue, Sep 23, 2014 11:19:00 PM

Luke Glendening potted Detroit's only goal in a 4-1 loss to Boston in Game 2 on Sunday afternoon.

The marker was his first career playoff goal. Glendening registered a goal and six helpers in 56 games during the regular season.
Mon, Apr 21, 2014 01:49:00 PM

Luke Glendening has inked a three-year extension with Detroit.

The financial terms of the agreement weren't immediately available. Glendening has played in 51 games this season to help Detroit cope with its brutal string of injuries. He is a decent bottom-six forward, but has no fantasy value in standard leagues.
