He saw fourth line duty on Saturday alongside Jay Beagle and Devante Smith-Pelly and made quite an impression. "Walker was giving us some energy, he was giving us some speed and I just made that flip," coach Barry Trotz told reporters after the game. "I just thought Walks was starting to make things happen. His speed was noticeable, his will on the puck if you will was really good. I thought that'd be a good fit. I just moved him over there and I thought he had an effect on the game." The third round pick in 2014, Walker could be the first Australian to play in the NHL.

Nathan Walker recorded six hits in Monday's preseason contest.

Walker stands at 5-foot-8, but his relatively small size doesn't prevent him from playing a physical game. "[Walker] added a lot of life, definitely frustrated some of the opposition," Capitals associate coach Todd Reirden said. "He's a guy that brings a ton of speed and energy and I thought he had a real strong game for us." Walker had 17 goals and 41 points in 73 AHL games in 2015-16.

The Washington Capitals drafted the first Australian ever when they selected Nathan Walker in the third round.

The Capitals were well aware of Walker as the 20-year-old played 43 games with their AHL affiliate in Hershey this past season, scoring five times and adding six assists. Walker fell in love with hockey when he saw the movie "The Mighty Ducks" and his family moved to the Czech Republic when he was 13 to further his career. The only way this story could be better would be if the Anaheim Ducks selected him for a real Hollywood ending.
