Nathan Walker recorded six hits in Monday's preseason contest.

Walker stands at 5-foot-8, but his relatively small size doesn't prevent him from playing a physical game. "[Walker] added a lot of life, definitely frustrated some of the opposition," Capitals associate coach Todd Reirden said. "He's a guy that brings a ton of speed and energy and I thought he had a real strong game for us." Walker had 17 goals and 41 points in 73 AHL games in 2015-16.

Nathan Walker is hoping to be the first Australian in the NHL.

Walker was a third round pick of the Capitals back in 2014. He's spent the last two years in the ECHL and AHL. The 22-year-old scored 17 goals and 41 points in 73 games with the Hershey Bears (AHL). "All my friends back home, the hockey community there, they're all rooting for me." Walker said. "Every time I go home, they keep asking me when that first [NHL] game is gonna happen. It's a really close hockey community back home, so it'd be pretty big." He probably won't start the year with the Caps, but he'll likely be called up from the minors at some point.

Washington Capitals prospect Nathan Walker can't wait to get hit at training camp. No, really.

Walker, 21, underwent surgery for a torn ACL in January, so he wants to test it with contact. He's quite a ways from making the full roster. That said, he certainly has time, as he was the 89th pick of the 2014 NHL Draft.

The Washington Capitals drafted the first Australian ever when they selected Nathan Walker in the third round.

The Capitals were well aware of Walker as the 20-year-old played 43 games with their AHL affiliate in Hershey this past season, scoring five times and adding six assists. Walker fell in love with hockey when he saw the movie "The Mighty Ducks" and his family moved to the Czech Republic when he was 13 to further his career. The only way this story could be better would be if the Anaheim Ducks selected him for a real Hollywood ending.

The Bears' are the AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals. Walker could become the first Australian-raised player to play in the AHL, although he obviously has aspirations of eventually making it one level higher.
