Tyler Gaudet didn't make the Arizona Coyotes' opening game roster, but he might be called up during the season.

"He skates well. He thinks well. There's a lot of parts of his game, really, to like," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said of Gaudet. "But in his position (center), there's a lot of details to learn and a lot of situations he thinks them well, but he's just got to get in those situations." Gaudet is getting ready for his first pro season after being sent to AHL Portland. He had 26 goals and 61 points in 65 OHL games in 2013-14.

Tyler Gaudet is hoping to win a roster spot on his defensive abilities.

Gaudet had 26 goals and 61 points in 65 OHL games last season, but he knows that if he makes the Coyotes' opening game roster, it will be as a bottom-six forward. "He's another player that's going to have to be the hard, dependable third or fourth-line center to begin with," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. "Hopefully he expands from that, but to me, that's where he's got to focus coming in." Gaudet is far from a safe bet to make the team, but he can't be ruled out either.

The Coyotes signed the undrafted forward to an entry-level deal in November. He produced 61 points in 65 games with Sault Ste. Marie in the OHL this season. Phoenix coach Dave Tippett is high on defensemen Connor Murphy and Brandon Gormley, who he believes will make the team's roster out of camp.

The Phoenix Coyotes are "excited" about Tyler Gaudet after he signed an entry-level deal on Monday.

Gaudet went undrafted, but has 10 goals and 22 points in 16 OHL games this season. "He's not a flashy player, but he has a chance to be a good, solid pro," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. If Gaudet makes it to the NHL, it probably won't be for at least a few years.
