The New York Islanders have inked Kevin Czuczman to a one-year extension.

Czuczman had seven points and 56 penalty minutes in 50 AHL contests last season. The 24-year-old blueliner participated in 12 games at the NHL level back in 2013-14.

Kevin Czuczman logged 20:06 minutes in his NHL debut on Tuesday.

Czuczman took a two-minute minor for hooking and finished the game with a minus-two rating in the Islanders' 6-0 loss to Minnesota. He admitted to being nervous and how quickly guys move in the NHL was a new experience for him. "My job's going to be that adjustment, catching up to the speed, but I'm confident in my skating ability and feel I can play at this level," he said.

The defenseman recently signed an entry-level contract witht he club. He had 10 goals, 21 points and 73 penalty minutes with Lake Superior State University.

Kevin Czuczman said part of the reason he chose to sign with the Islanders was because he felt comfortable with them.

"Jeff Napierala, their scout, he's been watching me since I was a freshman. He saw something in me and he deserves a lot of credit," Czuczman said. "Doug Weight [Islanders assistant coach and a former Lake Superior player] has talked to me a lot, too. And I worked out this summer with John Tavares and Ryan Strome." Czuczman inked an entry-level deal with the Islanders after the undrafted free agent made a name for himself in the NCAA. He will skip the minors for now, but he might spent a couple games in the press box before making his Islanders' debut.

The New York Islanders have signed Kevin Czuczman to a two-year, entry-level deal.

Czuczman had 10 goals, 11 assists, and 73 penalty minutes in 36 NCAA games this season with Lake Superior State University. He will head straight to the Islanders and might make his NHL debut as early as Friday.
