Rangers coach Alain Vigneault was impressed by Mat Bodie on Tuesday.

Bodie scored twice in the 5-3 exhibition loss to Philadelphia. "I remember him a little bit from last year and there’s no doubt that there’s some progression on his part," Vigneault said. "You guys asked me a lot about (Dylan) McIlrath but one of the guys that (the Hartford) coaches said that during their playoff run last year was so good and played with Dylan was Bodie and tonight I could see why. He's got a little big stick and knows how to put it defensively and when he’s got the puck on his stick most of the time he makes the right plays with the puck. He had a strong game for us tonight and that was good for us to see." Bodie had five goals and 32 points in 75 AHL contests in 2014-15.

Mat Bodie scored two goals in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Bodie's first goal tied the game at two in the second period and his second goal cut the Flyers' leada to 5-3 in the final frame. The 25-year-old signed with New York as an undrafted free-agent after spending his college career at Union. It would be shocking to see him make an impact in the NHL this season. He will provide the club with some organizational blue line depth in the AHL.

Mat Bodie has re-signed with the New York Rangers.

Bodie had five goals and 32 points in 75 AHL games last season. He'll have a very tough time making the team's roster out of training camp, but he might join the Rangers at some point during the season as an injury replacement.

Mat Bodie has signed an entry-level deal with the New York Rangers.

Bodie served as Union College's captain and helped lead them to a national championship. He led the defenseman scoring race with 39 points in 40 NCAA games and also spent 57 minutes in the sin bin. Bodie plans to finish his degree, so he won't join the Rangers until their development camp over the summer.
