Linus Ullmark has been summoned by the Buffalo Sabres.

There was a chance that Robin Lehner (hip) would serve as Buffalo's backup on Thursday, but the promotion of Ullmark seems to rule that out. Anders Nilsson will still be the Sabres' starter Thursday night.

The Buffalo Sabres have assigned Linus Ullmark back to AHL Rochester.

Ullmark impressed during his time with the Sabres last season, and is being offered the chance to rule their AHL crease. He's off to a rocky start with 11 goals against in four games, unfortunately. And isn't yet in line to supersede Robin Lehner.

Robin Lehner is sick, so Ullmark will backup Anders Nilsson on Tuesday. Ullmark has a 2.75 GAA and .926 save percentage in four AHL games this season.

Though he was with Buffalo for the pre-season finale, Linus Ullmark will begin the season in AHL Rochester.

Ullmark impressed in 20 games of NHL action last season, posting a .913 save percentage and 2.60 GAA. More surprisingly however, is that the 23-year-old struggled down on the farm, posting a .902 save percentage and 3.41 GAA. Though it's worth noting 2015-16 was his first season in North America.

Buffalo probably just wants an extra goalie for the short-term. Ullmark is still expected to begin the 2016-17 campaign in the AHL.

Linus Ullmark has been returned to the minors.

Evan Rodrigues and Cole Schneider were also assigned to Rochester after playing in their first NHL games at the end of the season. Ullmark played in 20 games with Buffalo in 2015-16 and he showed some promise. He went 8-10-2 with a 2.60 GAA and a .913 save percentage.

Ullmark turned away 21 of 24 shots, including all four on the kill but allowed a shorty. Through 20 games this season with the Sabres, Ullmark posted an 8-10-2 record with a .913 save percentage and a 2.60 GAA.

He was returned to Rochester when Robin Lehner, who was out with an injured ankle, rejoined the team from an AHL conditioning stint. Ullmark posted a 7-10-2 record with a .915 save percentage and a 2.58 goals-against average in 19 appearances with the Sabres.

Only twice over his last six starts have a sum other than two pucks get past Ullmark, once was one and the other four. So over his last six starts he's allowed just 13 goals. You know how bad Buffalo is, and Ullmark is sporting a .914 save percentage through 16 starts and 18 games. That ain't too shabby.

Linus Ullmark won his first game since December when he made 42 saves in Sunday's 4-2 victory over Winnipeg.

Hopefully, he won't have to wait another month for his next victory, but with Robin Lehner close to returning Ullmark's next action may be in the minors. He was sensational all night long, including making six of seven saves on special teams. He's now 6-10-2 with a .914 save percentage and a 2.62 GAA.
