Richard Park has inked a two-year deal with the Swiss League's HC Ambri Piotta.
The 36-year-old was a free agent whom the Penguins would never have offered a two-year contract to, according to Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Park had seven goals and 14 points last season and was regarded as a solid penalty killer. Tue, Aug 7, 2012 02:09:00 PM

Richard Park will hit the free agent market on Sunday.

The soon-to-be unrestricted free agent did not receive an acceptable offer from the Penguins to entice him to stay in Pittsburgh. Park has no fantasy value as he does not have any offensive ability to speak of nor does he accumulate penalty minutes.

Richard Park dressed in Game 3 on Sunday afternoon.

He was a healthy scratch for the Penguins in the first two games of the team's opening round series against Philadelphia. Park logged just 8:10 of ice time in the contest, while Joe Vitale took a seat in the press box.

Richard Park will miss four-to-six weeks with a fractured foot.

Park suffered the injury when he blocked a shot in the final seconds of Pittsburgh's 3-2 victory over Carolina on December 3rd. Park has two goals and seven points in 21 games this season.

Richard Park didn't play on Monday because of an unspecified injury.

He appeared to be favoring his right leg after blocking a shot in the final seconds of regulation in Saturday's win over Carolina. Park was listed as game-time decision, which suggests the ailment is minor in nature. Consider him day-to-day.

Richard Park is pointless in his last 10 games.

Park got off to a solid start this season, but he now has six points in 19 games. Factoring in that he hasn't played in every Penguins contest, he's currently on pace to record 22 points this season. We could see him bouncing back and doing a bit better than that, but not much. With that in mind, Park should only be owned in the deepest of leagues.

Richard Park has proven to be a solid addition in Pittsburgh already early into this season.

Not only has he added leadership, speed and a defensively aware game to the Penguins' lineup, but he has also contributed two goals and four assists in nine contests. His offensive contributions likely won't last, but he brings plenty of intangibles to keep him around the active roster.

Richard Park netted his first goal with the Penguins since Oct. 7, 1995 in a 4-2 win over Florida on Tuesday night.

Pittsburgh selected Park in the second round of the 1994 draft and he ended up coming back to the organization this past off-season as a free agent. Park has suited up in two of Pittsburgh's opening four games this year and he isn't expected to be a fantasy factor.

Coach Dan Bylsma has liked what he's seen from Richard Park during training camp so far.

"I think the intelligence and work ethic he plays the game with is extremely high," Bylsma said. "You see that in different situations. Faceoffs, penalty kills, moving in different spots and all of that. Left wing, right wing, center, he's a guy that can do that." He is competing for a spot on the opening day roster. Fellow veteran players Jason Williams and Ryan Craig are also in the mix for a position on the Penguins.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have inked Richard Park to a one-year, two-way deal that will pay him $550,000 at the NHL level.

He last appeared in the NHL in 2009-10 when he skated in 81 games with the New York Islanders. Park spent the past year in Switzerland with Geneve Servette where he had 15 goals and 34 points in 47 games. He is a strong penalty killer with great speed, but he doesn't produce enough offensively to be considered an asset to your fantasy team.

Richard Park has signed a three-year contract with Geneva-Servette in the Swiss league.

Park's new coach Chris McSorley said that the former Islander forward chose the Swiss club, despite offers from other European and NHL teams. Park played 684 NHL games over 13 seasons, scoring 95 goals and 227 points. At age 34, it appears that his NHL career is over.
