Date:

Cory Stillman will reportedly announce his retirement on Thursday, according to The Peterborough Examiner.

He will join the front office of the Florida Panthers as a member of their player development staff under Brian Skrudland. Stillman appeared in 1,025 career games over 16 seasons with Calgary, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Ottawa and Florida, while contributing 278 goals and 727 points. We wish him the best in his new role.

It is believed that if the Blue Jackets had not signed Vaclav Prospal they would have turned their attention to Cory Stillman.

The Jackets were in the market for a veteran once Kristian Huselius went down with a pectoral injury and Prospal was seemingly atop their list. Stillman remains unsigned, but would be a useful addition to any number of clubs looking for an offensive boost.

With the recent injury suffered by Kristian Huselius, the Blue Jackets are expected to search the free agent market for a potential replacement.

Cory Stillman is one of the many free agent forwards still available on the market and could be a possibility for Columbus along with Vaclav Prospal, Steve Bernier, Sergei Samsonov, J.P. Dumont, Jason Williams and Marek Svatos. The team has already spent near the salary cap limit by committing $58 million for the coming season, so they're left with about $2 million to offer.

The Carolina Hurricanes aren't expected to re-sign Cory Stillman.

Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford reportedly stated that Stillman's return would be tied to the Hurricanes' ability to re-sign Jussi Jokinen. Carolina was able to ink Jokinen to a three-year contract, so they will probably part ways with Stillman. He had 12 goals and 27 assists in 65 contests with Florida and Carolina last season.

Cory Stillman is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on Friday if he doesn't agree to terms with the Carolina Hurricanes.

However, GM Jim Rutherford has reportedly stated that Stillman's return will hinge on whether or not the Canes are able to re-sign potential free agent Jussi Jokinen. If they bring back Jokinen then Stillman will be allowed to pursue employment elsewhere. The veteran forward has 12 goals and 39 points in 65 games with Florida and Carolina last season.

Cory Stillman scored his eighth goal of the season, but the Hurricanes fell 4-3 to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.

This was Stillman's first goal as a member of the Hurricanes, and it came in only his second game with the club. Stillman was a key member of the Hurricanes' Stanley Cup championship in 2006 and was reacquired from Florida earlier this week. He now has nine goals and 25 points on the season and could make for a nice under-the-radar pickup down the stretch. Eric Staal did not make the trip with the team to Montreal, as he's nursing an upper body injury.

Cory Stillman played a strong first game in his second go around as a Hurricane Friday night.

He looked very much at home on a line with the Eric(k)s, Staal and Cole, with whom he has played with before. Stillman could make a very nice under-the-radar pickup. Consider snatching him before your competitors make a move.

Cory Stillman practiced on a line with Eric Staal on Friday.

Stillman had seven goals and 23 points in 44 games with Florida, but playing with Staal could significantly increase his fantasy value. It also shouldn't hurt that every game will be a critical one for the Hurricanes down the stretch as they attempt to cling onto one of the last playoff seeds.

Florida has shipped Cory Stillman to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Ryan Carter and a fifth-round selection in the 2011 draft.

Stillman captured the Stanley Cup as a member of the Hurricanes in 2006. He has recorded 23 points in 44 games this season, but his veteran presence should be valuable down the stretch as Carolina attempts to lock down a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Stillman is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Cory Stillman will play in his 1,000th career game when the Panthers host the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night.

The 37-year-old forward has 22 points and a plus-9 rating in 39 games with Florida this season and he could be a candidate to move elsewhere at the trade deadline on Feb. 28. His veteran leadership and two Stanley Cup rings make him a solid depth player for a contending team. Stillman started the year very slow, but his offensive game has awoken since about the midway point of January. He has recorded 12 points in his last 13 contests.

Cory Stillman is expected to be back in the Panther's lineup for Sunday's game against the Sharks.

Stillman has missed the past two Panthers' games due to an upper body ailment, but seems to be recovered sufficiently to suit against San Jose. His fantasy value is limited in all but very deep leagues.

Cory Stillman (upper body) will participate in Saturday morning's full contact practice to determine if he is fit to play Sunday against San Jose.

He has not been on the ice since he took a spill Monday at practice. Consider Stillman probable for Sunday's contest.

Cory Stillman (upper body) is probable for Sunday's game against San Jose.

Stillman missed Tuesday and Thursday's game after sustaining the ailment during Monday's practice. However, Stillman did participate in Friday's optional practice. He has seven goals and 21 points in 38 games this season.

Cory Stillman could be out of the Florida for a while with an upper-body injury.

He did not play on Tuesday after suffering an injury during Monday's practice and it was hoped that he would be able to skate in Wednesday's session but that didn't happen. In the meantime, the Panthers have returned Michal Repik to the minors in favor of the more defensively responsible Bill Thomas to help fill the void.
