Now that Jarred Tinordi has been returned to AHL Hamilton, look for Sergei Gonchar to return to Montreal's lineup on Saturday night against Toronto.

Gonchar has been out since Feb. 14th with an upper body injury. He's been a solid contributor to the Canadiens through 38 games with 12 points, 36 hits, and 58 blocks while skating an average of 18:37 a night.
Feb 28 - 12:33 AM

Sergei Gonchar (upper body) wore a no-contact jersey at Monday's practice.

He won't be back in the lineup Tuesday, but the veteran defenseman has received the green light to resume playing. Gonchar probably needs more practice time before he gets back into the fold, though.
Feb 24 - 10:13 AM

Montreal's website has Sergei Gonchar (upper body) listed on injured reserve.

He was injured in last Saturday's game versus Toronto. The Canadiens brought up Jared Tinordi from the minors on Wednesday night after Alexei Emelin was hurt as well.
Feb 19 - 3:31 PM

Sergei Gonchar (upper-body) won't travel to Detroit for Monday's game against the Red Wings.

Gonchar was hit into the boards by Leafs forward David Clarkson on Saturday and was unable to return to the game. He is considered day-to-day at this point. The 40-year-old has one goal and 13 points in 41 games for Dallas and Montreal this season.
Feb 15 - 12:58 PM

Sergei Gonchar left Saturday's game against Toronto after taking a hit from David Clarkson.

Clarkson came in and hit Gonchar into the boards from behind. The Leafs' forward received a five minute penalty and a game misconduct for his hit. He was forced to drop the gloves with Nathan Bealieu, who came in to defend his teammate. Clarkson also had a fight with Brandon Prust in the first period. Gonchar is considered day-to-day at this point.
Feb 15 - 8:46 AM

Sergei Gonchar will be a healthy scratch in Sunday's game against Arizona.

Gonchar has played well since being acquired earlier this season, but with the Canadiens playing back-to-back afternoon games, they probably just want to rest the 40-year-old. Michael Bournival will also be scratched against the Coyotes.
Feb 1 - 12:57 PM

Sergei Gonchar is eager to help out new defense partner Nathan Beaulieu.

"I don't know if big brother is the right word, but he's my teammate and I'll try to help him," said Gonchar. "I have more experience than him and I'll try to share it with him." He has recorded one goal and four assists in 19 contests since being acquired by Montreal from Dallas.

Look for Sergei Gonchar to be plenty motivated when the Canadiens visit Dallas Saturday night.

This will be the first time Gonchar has faced his former club since he was traded to Montreal on November 11th. The veteran defenseman, who has three points since landing with the Habs 11 games ago, will be looking to show the Dallas coaching staff he still has something left in his tank. We'd start Gonchar Saturday night. We always like players who have something to prove in our lineups.

Sergei Gonchar will be in the lineup on Thursday when the Canadiens host Boston.

He practiced on the first power-play unit with Andrei Markov on the point. They were joined by Max Pacioretty, David Desharnais and P.A. Parenteau up front. Gonchar had one assist in three games with the Dallas Stars prior to being traded to Montreal and this will mark his Habs debut.

Sergei Gonchar could slot onto Montreal's top power-play unit alongside P.K. Subban.

"He's made a career out of his work on the power play," coach Michel Therrien said. "We'll see how things play out, but he's definitely a guy with a lot of experience who has always been known for his vision and quick thinking on the power play. The addition of Gonchar will allow us to play with the elements that we have." Tom Gilbert was paired with Subban during Wednesday's practice, but he may have been keeping Gonchar's spot warm if the veteran defender draws into the lineup on Thursday night.

The Dallas Stars will retain 8% of Sergei Gonchar's $5 million annual salary.

Gonchar is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, so that's not a long-term commitment for Dallas. The Stars got Travis Moen in the trade.
Tue, Nov 11, 2014 01:29:00 PM

The Montreal Canadiens have acquired Sergei Gonchar in exchange for Travis Moen.

Gonchar has been limited to just three games this season due to an ankle injury, but he's healthy now. He's not the elite offensive defenseman he once was and we're not sure how much power-play ice time he'll get given that P.K. Subban and Andrei Markov typically consume the vast majority of it among defenseman in Montreal. That being said, he's another veteran presence on a team looking to make a deep playoff run and he'll certainly be worth keeping a very close eye on in the coming days.
Tue, Nov 11, 2014 01:19:00 PM

Sergei Gonchar was activated from the IL on Tuesday November 4.

He was back in the lineup after missing the first 11 games of the season due an ankle injury. Gonchar logged 12:36 of ice time in the match and he saw some action on the second power-play unit.
Wed, Nov 5, 2014 01:44:00 AM

The Dallas Stars will probably get Sergei Gonchar (ankle) back on Tuesday.

If everything goes according to plan, Gonchar will play alongside Jamie Oleksiak. Gonchar has missed Dallas' first 11 games of 2014-15.
