The New Jersey Devils aren't likely to sign Petr Sykora.
Sykora is still an unrestricted free agent. "We made a decision over the last 24-48 hours," Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said. "We're going to give some kids who played well in the minors an opportunity." Sykora will probably still be able to find work with another team. The question is if he'll get playing time as a top-six forward. Sun, Jan 13, 2013 12:49:00 PM

Petr Sykora reportedly has a contract offer on the table from at least one NHL team.

It's not known who has expressed an interest in Sykora, but it is possible that he'll end up re-signing with the New Jersey Devils. The Washington Capitals might also pursue Sykora, but it looks like they're not the team that made the offer. He had 21 goals and 44 points in 82 games in 2011-12. He's worth keeping an eye on as he might have a bit of fantasy value if he gets a chance to play consistently on a team's second line.

Petr Sykora is waiting for the CBA to be finalized, so that he can seek an NHL contract.

He is still at home in the Czech Republic, but would like to re-sign with the Devils. New Jersey GM Lou Lamoriello hasn't ruled out bringing Sykora back after he posted 21 goals and 44 points in 82 games with the team last season. Sykora said he is open to signing with another NHL team if something can't be worked out with the Devils.

Petr Sykora is considering the possibility that he could spend the entire season in Europe.

Most NHLers playing across the pond have out clauses written into their European deals that allow them to return to the NHL once the lockout ends, however since he's without an NHL deal at the moment Sykora may have to consider accepting a deal without such a clause. Just one of the many repercussions of the NHL's current labor stoppage.

The Devils are still interested in bringing back veteran winger Petr Sykora, according to general manager Lou Lamoriello.

However, he said there is nothing new to report in terms of the negotiation process. Talks between the two sides were expected to resume after Zach Parise signed with Minnesota last month.

The Devils will speak with unrestricted free agent Petr Sykora again now that Zach Parise has chosen to go elsewhere and join the Minnesota Wild.

Had Parise re-signed with New Jersey, the team may not have brought him back. Sykora said prior to free agency that his first choice was to stay with the Devils.

Petr Sykora hopes to re-sign with the New Jersey Devils.

He entered training camp last September without a contract, but played his way onto the team and earned a one-year deal worth $650,000. Sykora ended up with 21 goals and 44 points in 82 games during the regular season. He also added five points in 18 playoff appearances. "You never know what's going to happen, but I think I had a good enough season to come back here next year," he said. "I'm going to do my best. I felt that I did my best during the regular season. I don't know. Twenty goals, Stanley Cup Finals, I hope it's going to work out."

The New Jersey Devils will reinsert Petr Sykora into their lineup on Wednesday night in Game 4 against Los Angeles.

He has sat out the last six postseason games as a healthy scratch and will try to give the Devils' sputtering offense a shot in the arm with their season on the line. Sykora has two goals and two assists in 15 playoff games. He will take the spot of Jacob Josefson in the lineup.

Petr Sykora wasn't told for certain that he would play in Game 4, but after practicing with the team on Tuesday he believes he will draw back into the lineup.

"I skated on the line," said Sykora, who took part in the session alongside Patrik Elias and Dainius Zubrus. "It looks like I'm playing." He has been scratched for New Jersey's last six playoff games. Coach Pete DeBoer said the team would consider making the change and we'll likely know more following the Devils' morning skate.

Petr Sykora practiced on a line with Patrik Elias and Dainius Zubrus on Tuesday.

Sykora has not played since Game 3 of the ECF against the Rangers, but he could dust himself off to help the Devils stave off elimination against the Kings in Wednesday’s Game 4. The 35-year-old is 2-2-4 in 15 postseason matches.

Petr Sykora practiced on the fifth line on Sunday.

It looks like Sykora will spend Game 3 in the press box. The Devils are already down 2-0 in their series against Los Angeles, so it wouldn't be surprising if New Jersey reinserted Sykora into their lineup. However, they haven't given any indication that they plan to do that yet.
