Bryan McCabe has accepted a job in player development with the Panthers.
McCabe skated for Florida from 2009-11 and has unofficially retired from playing. The former Panthers' captain helped GM Dale Tallon during this past weekend's entry draft. "This is an opportunity to work with the kids," McCabe said. "I’m still relevant a little bit in which the kids know who I am. They saw me play. I think I can help out and groom these kids." We wish McCabe luck in his new career. Sun, Jun 24, 2012 10:45:00 AM

Bryan McCabe said he is unofficially retired.

"Am I trying to play again? No. I'm done," McCabe said. "I'm down here, retired, have three kids now so that's what I'm doing. That's real work. The offers came in, but I don't want to leave here. We called it a day." He watched Florida's game versus Ottawa on Wednesday from the press box and is helping the team with some scouting before the Feb. 27 trade deadline. McCabe appeared in 1,135 career games, while generating 528 points and 1,732 penalty minutes.

Bryan McCabe reportedly got an offer to play with a Western Conference team, but he turned it down to avoid moving his family.

We're roughly a month into the regular season and McCabe is still an unrestricted free agent. It's possible that a team dealing with injuries or looking for a boost as they battle for playoff positioning will sign McCabe this season, but it's also possible that he's played in his last NHL game. We'll keep an eye on the situation, but there has been little to no news on the McCabe front recently.

Bryan McCabe is in discussions with "several teams" according to his agent, Ian Pulver.

McCabe is still an unrestricted free agent. He's reportedly been offered a few tryout offers, but he hasn't accepted any of them yet. He's worth keeping an eye on as he could still have some fantasy value if he ends up on a team willing to give him some power-play ice time.

John Tortorella intimated earlier this week that the situation inherited by Bryan McCabe upon his arrival to New York wasn't the greatest fit for his skills.

"He kind of gets put in a tough spot because we really don't have a quarterback," Tortorella said. "Caber was kind of the quarterback shooter. It doesn't work. Those are the kind of things you look to add to this core." We couldn't have put it any better. At this point in his career, McCabe can have value to a team needing a shooter from the back-end, but he's not well-suited to be the primary puck carrier with the man advantage.

The Rangers' acquisition of Bryan McCabe for the push to the playoffs didn't produce the results the team had hoped for.

McCabe provided a much-needed spark to the team's floundering power play, but was not used as part of their top two defensive pairings at even strength, struggling down the stretch. It's hard to imagine him logging big minutes for a team next season.

Bryan McCabe scored his seventh goal of the season in the Rangers' 3-2 shootout win over Philadelphia Friday.

McCabe has been a nice addition to the Rangers' power play since his arrival last month, but the team hasn't asked him to play a ton of minutes at even strength. He's becoming a power-play specialist. Ruslan Fedotenko also scored a goal in the Rangers' victory.

Bryan McCabe is looking forward to being part of the Islanders-Rangers rivalry again.

"It's always a huge rivalry," McCabe said. "Some games, you get chills down your spine. Both teams get up for it. It's been a heated rivalry for so many years. It's exciting to be part of it again." McCabe started his career with the Islanders, but he spent less than three full seasons with the team. He was dealt to the Rangers on February 26th and he'll play against the Islanders on Tuesday for the first time since the trade. Look for McCabe to play with a lot of intensity Tuesday.

Bryan McCabe is adjusting to playing a decreased role with the Rangers than he had as a member of the Florida Panthers.

He is currently playing on the team's third defense pairing with Matt Gilroy, which has seen him log 16:22 of ice time against Ottawa on Friday and 13:18 versus Philadelphia on Sunday. "We feel our top four are our top four and it's a little bit of a different role for Bryan," coach John Tortorella said, referring to Marc Staal, Dan Girardi, Ryan McDonagh and Michael Sauer. "We're going to go with our young guys. He and I talked a bit about that today. I thought [Sunday] was his best game for us as far as the power play and patience and being involved on the bench. As far as his understanding our defensive system, that's a work in progress." McCabe sees plenty of time with the man advantage though, but he is still getting used to the team's 1-3-1 scheme. He has two assists in five games with the Rangers since being traded from Florida.

Bryan McCabe will be on the Rangers' top power play unit in his first game with New York on Sunday afternoon.

This is no surprise, as a defenseman to play on the man advantage has been the Rangers' biggest need all season. McCabe will also be paired with Steve Eminger to begin his Broadway career.

By trading away a number of veterans during the past few weeks, the Panthers are fully-devoted to a youth movement.

The club has traded away Cory Stillman, Michal Frolik and most recently Bryan McCabe to teams fighting for spots in the playoffs. While Frolik stands out as being much younger than the others, the assets received by the Panthers from Chicago should help the team rebuild for the future.

The New York Rangers have acquired Bryan McCabe for Tim Kennedy and a 3rd round pick.

The Rangers desperately needed a power play quarterback. McCabe has tons of experience here and will be a huge addition. McCabe has five goals and 17 assists in 48 games this season. McCabe has long been coveted by the pinstripes.

Bryan McCabe's agent, Ian Pulver, said his client isn't on the verge of being traded.

Florida would probably like to trade McCabe, but he has a no-trade clause, so he has control over his immediate future. Pulver said that McCabe is "weighing his options," but GM Dale Tallon hasn't asked him to waive his no-trade clause yet. We'll keep you posted.

Bryan McCabe returned to the Panthers' lineup after missing over a month with a broken jaw.

He didn't look terribly out of place in 20:52 of ice time against Detroit Friday night as he was credited with three hits in 24 shifts. McCabe skated on the power play (3:17). Activate him immediately.

Bryan McCabe (jaw) should be considered probable for Friday's game.

McCabe took part in the Panthers' practice on Thursday. He had five goals and 21 points in 43 games before he sustained the injury.
