Daymond Langkow scored the lone Phoenix Coyotes goal in their 2-1 loss in Game 3 of the Western Conference final Thursday night against the Los Angeles Kings.
The goal was the veteran's first of the playoffs, though he does have three of his seven playoff points over his last four games. Keith Yandle and Derek Morris had the assists. Phoenix hasn't gotten any production in this series from its top scorers during the regular season, Radim Vrbata and Ray Whitney. The duo has been held pointless over the last six games. Phoenix is one loss away from heading home for the summer. Thu, May 17, 2012 11:58:00 PM

Date:

Daymond Langkow will move up from the fourth line to take Martin Hanzal's spot in the Coyotes' top-six forward group in Game 3 on Thursday.

He will play between Radim Vrbata and Taylor Pyatt, with Hanzal suspended for one game for a boarding infraction against Los Angeles captain Dustin Brown on Tuesday night. "Yeah, I've been there before," Langkow said. "We've got to work hard as a group and play our game and get the job the done. I haven't played with [Vrbata] at all except for a little bit in the third [period] at the end of last game. I've played with [Pyatt] a little bit. I know what kind of players they are. [Pyatt] is real good down low and obviously [Vrbata] is a great shooter. We just need to work hard and make things click." The veteran center has no goals and six assists in 13 playoff contests.

Despite reports that Daymond Langkow (face) was going to play Saturday against Tampa, the Coyote pivot was not able to suit up.

It is unclear if Langkow will be able to dress for Tuesday's game against Ottawa, or if he will sit out until after the All-Star break. Play it safe and keep Langkow on reserve.

Daymond Langkow suffered an upper body injury in the first period and will not return.

Langkow caught either the puck or a stick in his face and left the ice very slowly. He played only 1:28 minutes but had three shots on goal in that short span. Consider him day-to-day for now as he left the bench holding a towel to his face.

Daymond Langkow had a game high nine shots on goal Thursday.

Langkow was held off the offensive scoresheet on Thursday as he didn't garner a goal or an assist in the 4-2 win over Edmonton. He was rocking in the first as he had seven of his shots stopped by netminder Devan Dubnyk. Langkow is seeing top six minutes with the Coyotes and is worth picking up in deeper leagues.

Our hearts go out to Langkow in dealing with such a tragic loss. He is the consummate pro as he was able to come back in such fine style and produce. We have been touting Langkow as a 50-point sleeper this season. We see no reason to change our forecast.

We offer our sincere condolences to Daymond and his family on their sudden loss. He could return as early as Wednesday but is likely to be in a funk for a while, which is quite normal.
