Jose Theodore wants to re-sign with the Florida Panthers.
He will be an unrestricted free agent this summer if a deal cannot be reached with the Panthers. "I feel I got a big role with this team and like what we started here when I signed," Theodore said. "I never accept a backup role, but that doesn't mean it's not going to happen." If Florida intends to use Jacob Markstrom as their starter next year, as it is expected they will, then it might be best for them to part ways with Theodore and use Scott Clemmmensen, who has one year remaining on his deal with the club, as his backup. Theodore finished the season on the sidelines with a groin injury that kept him on the shelf since the beginning of March. Apr 29 - 11:14 AM

Jose Theodore (groin) worked out Tuesday on the ice before his teammates practiced.

He has been sidelined since March 2 after he tore two groin muscles at Carolina and it doesn't look like he'll play again this season.

Jose Theodore (groin) won't return this season, according to RDS' Renaud Lavoie.

Theodore had hoped to get in a game or two in the final week of the season, but is still not 100% recovered from a groin injury sustained on March 2. He will finish the season with a 4-6-3 record, 3.29 goals-against average and .893 save percentage. The 36-year-old is in the final year of a two-year, $3 million deal.

Jose Theodore (groin) is still hoping to play this season.

Theodore was on the ice on Monday for the first time since he sustained the ailment. He's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but is interested in signing a contract extension with the Panthers.

Jose Theodore (groin) won't return for another "four-to-six weeks," according to RDS' Renaud Lavoie.

Theodore tore his groin in a game March 2. Lavoie says that the netminder's "goal" is to get into two or three games before the year ends. With this updated timetable, that is looking very iffy at best right now. Theodore has a 3.29 goals-against average and .893 save percentage on the year.
Mar 16 - 7:15 PM

Jose Theodore will be sidelined for five-to-six weeks with a torn groin, according to his agent Don Meehan.

Theodore told Meehan that the injury won't require surgery, but given that timeline he may not play again this season. He has one remaining on his contract and Meehan said that he still "wants to play and compete" even though it isn't expected to be with the Panthers.
Mar 4 - 3:03 PM

Florida assistant GM Mike Santos decided not to comment on a report that said Jose Theodore has a potential season-ending groin injury.

"We have no information to release on any of the injuries yet — most importantly because they haven't even seen our doctors. We got in at 2 [Sunday] morning," Santos said. With Theodore out of the lineup, the Panthers have summoned Jacob Markstrom from the minors again.
Mar 4 - 11:00 AM

Jose Theodore has been diagnosed with a torn right groin muscle, forcing him to consider what would be season-ending surgery.

If his season really is over, then it creates an interesting situation for the Florida Panthers. Will more experienced goalie Scott Clemmensen get a bunch of starts or will they roll with prospect Jacob Markstrom? Some also wonder if this breathes life back into Roberto Luongo trade rumors.

It looks like Jose Theodore could be out for a while after sustaining a lower body injury in Saturday's contest.

Theodore was seen walking without crutches but with a serious limp after Saturday's contest. Coach Dineen said ’’Theodore would be out for some time and that Markstrom would be headed to South Florida.’’ We will update Theodore's status when we know more on the exact nature of the injury.

Jose Theodore sustained a lower body injury on Saturday.

Theodore left the contest after stopping just one shot. The Panthers don't expect him to return before the conclusion of their contest against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Mar 2 - 7:44 PM

Jose Theodore should be in goal against the Hurricanes Saturday night.

Adjust your goaltending rotation accordingly.

Kevin Dineen acknowledged that he might not be able to give his goalies the benefit of the doubt with all of them struggling right now.

It's the goalie carousel in Florida. Thursday night, Scott Clemmensen gave up three goals on 10 shots in 16:46 before being yanked for Jose Theodore, who went 15-for-15. The goaltending is the team's major Achilles heel and is why it's giving youngster Jacob Markstrom a shot, too. "I’ve always had a long leash with my goalies,’’ Dineen said. "They understand the game and when to step it up. But that’s not happening right now.’’
Mar 1 - 9:40 AM

Jose Theodore is expected to start in net Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Panthers recently sent Jacob Markstrom back to the AHL, leaving the Panthers' goaltending duties to the uninspiring duo of Theodore and Scott Clemmensen. Theodore entered the season as the starter but has done little to keep it, posting a 4-6-2 record to go with a 3.37 GAA and.893 save percentage. Fantasy owners should steer clear of the Panthers' goalies if at all possible.
Feb 26 - 2:58 PM

Jose Theodore is slated to get the nod for Florida on Thursday versus Philadelphia, according to the Miami Herald.

Scott Clemmesen will back him up and Jacob Markstrom, who was called up Wednesday from the minors, will be a healthy scratch. Markstrom is being projected to play Friday against Pittsburgh though.

Jose Theodore kicked out 30 of 33 shots in a 3-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs Monday night.

Theodore should continue getting the majority of the playing time going forward in this 48-game shortened season, however the team's struggles will limit his value. He's 4-6-2 on the season.
