Hamilton, Ontario native Steve Staios has been named the new President of the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs.
"I grew up playing in the grassroots minor hockey programs in Hamilton before I began my OHL career with Niagara Falls and George Burnett," Staios said in the press release. "The City of Hamilton has a rich hockey history and I’m excited to grow the OHL’s brand of Bulldogs hockey in this great community." Current Head Coach Burnett's relationship with Staios extends to 1990-92 when he coach the young Staios. A veteran of 18 NHL seasons and 1,001 games, Staios wasn't known for his scoring prowess but rather his ability to control the defensive zone and shut out the opponent's top scorers. He also won gold in the 2003 and 2004 World Championships, plus silver in 2008's. Staios also served as director of player development with Team Canada at the 2014 World Championship. Still just 41 years old, he will have much wisdom to share with the Hamilton's young minds. Jun 5 - 8:01 PM
