Former Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jason Strudwick is heading over to Sweden to play for Sodertalje in First Division, just below the Elite League.
He played in Lugano in the Swiss League in 2006-07 and in Hungary during the lockout. He’s staying in shape in case an NHL club wants him later in the season when he has to clear waivers to return to the NHL. Strudwick played in 43 games for Edmonton last season. Tue, Nov 22, 2011 10:57:00 AM

Jason Strudwick is still waiting for an offer from another NHL team after becoming a free agent this summer.

"I'd still like to play, but if I don't, well, I can live with that" he said. "I don't know if I'd want to go a camp for two or three weeks (on a tryout) and then, say, get cut." Strudwick skated in 43 games with Edmonton last season where he posted two assists, a minus-16 rating and 23 penalty minutes.

If Jason Strudwick doesn't find work as a player this summer, or he simply decides to retire, the Edmonton Oilers are likely to offer him a job within their organization.

Strudwick had two points and a minus-16 rating in 43 games last season, but it's still possible that the Oilers will decide to offer him a contract. However, if they don't, he could end up helping the team in some other capacity. One possibility for him is player development. We'll keep you posted.

Jason Strudwick will spend Tuesday's game in the press box.

Strudwick has only played in 16 of Edmonton's first 34 games. Needless to say, Strudwick has no fantasy value.

Jason Strudwick will play on Tuesday after spending 13 straight games in the press box.

The Oilers had an opening because Jim Vandermeer is out with an ankle injury, but what's a little surprising is that Strudwick will be paired up with Ryan Whitney on the top defensive pairing. Strudwick has no points and a minus-nine rating in 11 games this season.

Jason Strudwick has signed a one-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

Strudwick was an unrestricted free agent, but he decided to come back to Edmonton after testing the free agent waters. He had six points and 50 penalty minutes in 72 games last season.

The Edmonton Oilers could re-sign unrestricted free agent Jason Strudwick.

Strudwick is one of three UFA's (Fernando Pisani and Mike Comrie) on the Oilers, but he is likely the only one that the Oilers would like back. "Jason Strudwick has great value in our dressing room," GM Steve Tambellini said. "And as far as from a leadership perspective, I thought he played hard last season." Do not look for the Oilers to be interested in a top line free agent as it appears that they will rely on their youth to evolve in 2010-11.

Jason Strudwick may be reinserted into Edmonton's lineup on Wednesday versus the Wild.

He has served as a healthy scratch in three of the past four games and coach Pat Quinn is toying with the idea of getting him some more playing time. Strudwick may dress as a seventh defenseman or line up as a forward in the contest, but nothing is concrete at this time.

Blueliner Jason Strudwick played part of Sunday's game on the fourth line.

Edmonton needed Strudwick to help fill the void left by Jean-Francois Jacques, who is day-to-day with the flu. Strudwick has three assists and 16 penalty minutes in 31 games this season.

Jason Strudwick re-signed with the Oilers for one year at $700,000.

Strudwick collected two goals and nine points in 71 games with Edmonton last year. He has little fantasy value, unless you play in a 30-team league that dresses six defensemen.

Jason Strudwick has been named the Edmonton Oilers nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.

Each team nominates one player for the trophy which is awarded annually to the NHL player who exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. The 33 year old defenseman has two goals and nine points this season. He has no fantasy value.

Jason Strudwick returned to action against the Avalanche Friday night after recovering from a wrist injury.

Strudwick took only seven shifts and had 3:50 of ice time. Stay away.

Jason Strudwick is listed as questionable for Tuesday's game against the Capitals.

He is currently battling a wrist injury. "If he was healthy, I would have played him Sunday night over (Steve) MacIntyre," said Oilers coach Craig MacTavish. "You want a little bit more reliability, a little more playmaking ability."

Jason Strudwick saw time at forward in Edmonton's 5-4 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings.

Strudwick was picked up by the Oilers to be a utility type player. With Sam Gagne out dealing with concussion symptoms, Strudwick suited up as a forward for Edmonton although he only played 3:44. While the versatility is nice in fantasy, Strudwick has only recorded three assists this season and will likely have a very minimal impact in fantasy leagues.

Jason Strudwick is happy to be a member of the Oilers.

Every off-season he works out in his home city of Edmonton, but for the first time he does not have to pack up his belongings and leave for his NHL team. "We can actually settle in-to our home here," said Strudwick. "Getting a chance to play at Rexall Place is going to be pretty exciting. I'm not really nervous about it, I'm actually quite excited." The hulking blueliner appeared in 52 games with the New York Rangers last year, accounting for two points and 40 penalty minutes. He was signed by the Oilers this summer, but is at best a depth defender who will see very little action. He is currently projected as being the team's seventh or eighth defenseman, so he should not be on your fantasy radar.
