A Russian report states that Randy Robitaille has been dealt from Metallurg Novokuznetsk to Donbass of the KHL.
Robitaille, according to the report, was dealt because of salary reasons. He has not played in the NHL since 2008 when he was a member of the Ottawa Senators. He then played a couple of seasons with Lugano of the Swiss League before returning to North America to play one season in the AHL with San Antonio. He then returned to Europe to play with Metallurg Novokuznetsk the last two seasons. At age 37, he will not return to the NHL as a player. Tue, Jan 1, 2013 08:47:00 AM

Randy Robitaille will play alongside superstars Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza in an attempt to create a balanced attack in Ottawa.

Coach Bryan Murray had this to say regarding Robitaille's opportunity: "I keep hoping. He has got skill. He has got savvy. He has to decide if he wants to compete enough to be a factor on that line, on that level, because it will match up against top players on the other team, against the top defensemen on the other team. Whoever plays against the best players on the other team, it's a real test."

Randy Robitaille picked up two assists on Saturday night but it was not enough as the Senators fell to the Leafs 4-2.

Robitaille now has 20 points in 42 games for the Sens this season. He doesn't produce enough on a consistent basis to justify a roster spot for him. Leave him on the waiver wire for now. On a side note, if we are writing about Robitaille instead of Dany Heatley, Jason Spezza, Daniel Alfredsson, or Wade Redden, the Sens are in a big offensive struggle.

Randy Robitaille appears to be on thin ice in Ottawa unless he produces more.

Robitaille has six goals this season, which have come in only three games. In the other 28 matches, he is scoreless. Coach John Paddock offered a blunt assessment of the forward, "There has to be production. If you're going to be a skill player, you have to produce...He's probably been all right. But we need a little bit better than all right." With the impending return of Patrick Eaves, Robitaille may be on the outside looking in come playoff time.

Randy Robitaille scored Ottawa's first goal and the game-winning goal in a 5-4 win Wednesday night.

Before this game, Robitaille had just two goals and four points in his 17 contests this season. Mike Fisher, Jason Spezza, and Nick Foligno each scored a goal and recorded an assist for Ottawa. Daniel Alfredsson and Joe Corvo each registered two assists in the win.

Randy Robitaille returned to action on Saturday November 24.

Robitaille might not have come back so soon if Daniel Alfredsson and Patrick Eaves were okay. He had been sidelined with a bruised hand which may not be fully healed. "I won't be taking any one-timers," Robitaille said.

Randy Robitaille may replace Jason Spezza on the top line in Thursday's game against Atlanta.

The veteran center practiced on the top unit after Spezza missed the session with a groin injury. While Spezza's injury doesn't appear to be serious, the Senators will be very cautious with their star center. Robitaille's fantasy value will skyrocket if he does line up on a modified "Pizza Line."

Ottawa native Randy Robitaille will make his Senator debut on Thursday against Montreal.

The veteran winger started the year in the Russian Super League, but wanted to return after discovering his wife was pregnant with their third child. He had to clear waivers in order to play for Ottawa, which he did on Wednesday. Coach John Paddock wasn't sure where he would put Robitaille, but did say that he'd put him in the lineup. Christoph Schubert may shift back to defense, which would mean Luke Richardson would be a healthy scratch. He has some offensive potential, and can still produce on a deep Ottawa team.

Randy Robitaille signed a one-year deal with the Ottawa Senators.

Financial terms were not immediately made available. Last season Robitaille had 11 goals and 40 points in 78 games with the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders. He will have to clear waivers by noon Wednesday before being eligible to play with Ottawa.
