Brett Clark has been released from his tryout contract with the Florida Panthers.

He appeared in eight games with the Minnesota Wild last season. Clark shouldn't be on your fantasy radar even if he finds some other NHL destination to play this season.

Veteran defenseman Brett Clark, signed by the Minnesota Wild to add depth on March 13, could be in the lineup today when the team plays the Los Angeles Kings.

Clark has been waiting patiently to get into game action while the Wild has been hot and coach Mike Yeo didn't wish to tamper with the lineup. In the second of back-to-backs, though, Yeo may want fresh legs and have Clark replace left-shot defenseman Justin Falk. Yeo said there’s "definitely a possibility" Clark will play today. Asked if he’s worried Clark has gotten rusty by having such a long hiatus since playing his last game for AHL Oklahoma City, Yeo said, "The good thing is this guy has played a lot of hockey (681 games with four NHL teams) in his career. If it was a younger player, I think it’d be a different story. It is a priority of ours to get him in very soon. We’ll also be a little understanding of the fact that he hasn’t playing in a long time. His first shift, if he’s less than perfect, we’re not going to judge him on that." Falk has been struggling lately.

The Minnesota Wild have confirmed the signing of Brett Clark to a one-year deal.

"He’s a veteran NHL defenseman who has played a lot of games in the League," Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said. "He’s a guy capable of being used in any situation. He certainly provides depth, but also the experience and poise he brings will benefit our back end." Clark had 31 points in 2010-11, but we don't expect him to have much fantasy value with Minnesota as primarily a third-pairing or seventh defenseman.

The Minnesota Wild have reportedly signed Brett Clark.

Clark has had some fantasy value in the past, courtesy of his three 30-plus point seasons, but we would recommend tempering your expectations for the remainder of 2013. The Wild will probably use him primarily as a depth defenseman and it's not clear if he'll even play regularly. That being said, he'll still get a lot of blocked shots if nothing else and if your league significantly values that category, then Clark might be worth scooping up.

Brett Clark enters Thursday's action second in the NHL with 186 blocked shots this season.

"You know it's going to hurt," he said. "But you still have to stick your neck out for the team. That's what the whole job is." Clark has been dealing with an ankle issue from pucks hitting him and is sporting a swollen bursa that is larger than a golf ball. Unfortunately that category is his only real fantasy value, as he has 14 points and a minus-25 rating this season.

Brett Clark got the day off on Sunday, but he is expected to be ready for Game 2 on Tuesday night.

"Everything is good, just a rest day. I haven't had many all year and they wanted to keep me off, so I'll be ready to go," Clark said. He posted a goal and an assist in Game 1 on Saturday, but didn't come over the boards for a shift in the final six minutes of the contest.

Brett Clark has been quietly productive as of late.

He has points in five consecutive games and has scored eight goals and registered 22 points for the season. You could do worse than pick Clark up on the waiver wire as a short-term addition.

Brett Clark dressed in Wednesday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Islanders after taking a shot to his groin area on Monday night.

"That's the most painful and it lingers," said the Tampa defender. "It's excruciating at the time and it lingers for a long time. Arms and legs, that stuff you can live with and move. But this is all part of the game. You just have to work through it." He logged nearly 20 minutes in the contest, while recording an assist and a minus-1 rating.

Brett Clark will be a game-time decision on Wednesday night after taking a puck to his groin area in Monday's win over Carolina.

He went to a hospital after the game to get checked out, but said Wednesday that there is no damage despite him feeling some pain. "It's still pretty sore," he said. "We're going to wait and see. It's one of those areas you can't really mess with."

Brett Clark has been a great source of offense from the Tampa blueline thus far this season.

He leads the Lightning defense corps with five goals and is tied with sophomore defender Victor Hedman for the lead in points with 11. Clark has averaged 20:23 of ice time per contest and has done a great job with the man advantage where he has recorded four of his goals and eight points.

Brett Clark was able to play in Wednesday's game despite suffering a wrist injury last Sunday.

He was questionable heading into the contest, but ended up logging 22:40 of ice time in a 5-3 win over the Penguins. Clark has four points in nine games for the Bolts this season.

Brett Clark will have his wrist contusion examined on Tuesday.
