The Canadiens' Marc Bergevin was one of the finalists for NHL's general manager of the year.
The Canadiens were the NHL's most-improved team, going from 28th to the second seed in the East. "I’m flattered to be a finalist because I have a lot of respect for Bob Murray (Ducks) and Ray Shero (Penguins)," Bergevin said. "They’re both great hockey men." May 14 - 9:51 AM

Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin seeks a team that is bigger, faster and younger.

The Habs were on the smallish side this season, and Bergevin wants a blend. "You don’t change the makeup of a team overnight," Bergevin said as he answered questions at his end-of-the-season news conference Monday in Brossard. "It takes a long time to change the makeup of a team. Obviously, there’s 29 other teams that want to be big, fast and strong, but that’s easier said than done. But I believe balance is very important. You can’t win with all big guys and you can’t win with all small guys." The GM has six picks in the draft and said he will take size into consideration.

A tough year for Perry Pearn ended with a dismissal from the Montreal Canadiens organization.

Pearn was notoriously fired just a couple hours before a Habs game when Jacques Martin was still the head coach. It makes some sense that new GM Marc Bergevin decided to part ways with Pearn - he won't even be a scout - but it's a rather cruel year for Pearn nonetheless.

Marc Bergevin was traded baak to Pittsburgh for a 9th round pick in this season's entry draft.

He was traded to the Lightning from the Penguins in March, but asked Tampa to trade him back to Pittsburgh. Lightning GM Jay Feaster, who was very happy with Bergevin's contributions to his team, felt he should honor the player's request.
