Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin hasn't ruled out moving the third overall pick in the upcoming NHL Draft.
"I'll listen, I'm open. I've told teams that if they want to make me an offer, I'll look at it." Montreal's general manager said. "Sometimes teams don't want to move up. As much as a team wants to move back or move up, if there's no takers or buyers you just have to sit back." The Habs have been heavily linked to Finnish center Jesperi Kotkaniemi, who many believe will still be available outside the top-five picks. Montreal has a huge need at center, but they also have one of the worst prospect pools in the NHL. Some would say they'd be wise to move back, pick up another draft pick and take the center their franchise has desperately needed for the last 10+ years. Jun 16 - 3:03 PM

Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin should still be in the market for help at center after swinging a deal for Max Domi on Friday.

"Max is capable of playing center" said Bergevin. "but at the end of the day, he's a winger." Montreal's GM also added how he believes Domi has some untapped offensive potential and displays plenty of "character". Bergevin hasn't been scared to make big moves in the last three years, trading his best defenseman (P.K. Subban), his best prospect (Mikhail Sergachev) and now one of his only goal-scoring threats. With the NHL Entry Draft six days away and free agency another two weeks away, we'd be surprised if Montreal is done tinkering with their lineup. Finding a number one center is still atop Bergevin's to-do list.

The Montreal Canadiens are unlikely to trade the third overall pick, according to GM Marc Bergevin.

Never say never, but it appears as though they'll be keeping the pick. "You pay a hefty price to get that pick," Bergevin said. "Obviously having the season we had, that's what gave us the right to pick that high. It's certainly not the goal when your season starts. But after all the pain and suffering, people will say, 'Will you ever trade that pick?' You know what? I learned from a comment (then-Blackhawks GM) Dale Tallon made when I was in Chicago. He said: 'You know what, Berg? You know how much we suffered to get that pick?' And I believe at the time it was third overall and it was Jonathan Toews. And the next year, it was Patrick Kane (with the No. 1 pick). So it's not a fun time for our fans to suffer the way they did this year, but we're going to get rewarded in Dallas with a pick we feel will make our team better in the long haul. That's the price to pay." Montreal should be able to add some talent up front with the pick.

Addressing the press on Sunday, Marc Bergevin said the Habs' main problem throughout the first half of the season has been consistency.

"I believe making the playoffs is possible, but a lot of things need to change," said the Canadiens GM. "There are times where I’ve seen them capable of doing it." The Habs have a long way to go. They are 17-20-4 this season, putting them nine points back of a Wild Card spot.

Marc Bergevin has signed an extension with the Montreal Canadiens that will keep the general manager with the franchise through 2022.

No real surprise there. Montreal has a 141-68-25 record since Bergevin became the team's general manager. The Canadiens reached the Eastern Conference Final in 2014 and are a serious contender for the Stanley Cup. "Marc is an excellent general manager who quickly made an impact in the league with his leadership skills and his ability to identify the needs and find the personnel to assemble a championship team. I am very pleased with his work and the results he has achieved since his appointment as general manager," Canadiens owner Geoff Molson said.

The Canadiens' Marc Bergevin was one of the finalists for NHL's general manager of the year.

The Canadiens were the NHL's most-improved team, going from 28th to the second seed in the East. "I’m flattered to be a finalist because I have a lot of respect for Bob Murray (Ducks) and Ray Shero (Penguins)," Bergevin said. "They’re both great hockey men."

Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin seeks a team that is bigger, faster and younger.

The Habs were on the smallish side this season, and Bergevin wants a blend. "You don’t change the makeup of a team overnight," Bergevin said as he answered questions at his end-of-the-season news conference Monday in Brossard. "It takes a long time to change the makeup of a team. Obviously, there’s 29 other teams that want to be big, fast and strong, but that’s easier said than done. But I believe balance is very important. You can’t win with all big guys and you can’t win with all small guys." The GM has six picks in the draft and said he will take size into consideration.

A tough year for Perry Pearn ended with a dismissal from the Montreal Canadiens organization.

Pearn was notoriously fired just a couple hours before a Habs game when Jacques Martin was still the head coach. It makes some sense that new GM Marc Bergevin decided to part ways with Pearn - he won't even be a scout - but it's a rather cruel year for Pearn nonetheless.

Marc Bergevin was traded baak to Pittsburgh for a 9th round pick in this season's entry draft.

He was traded to the Lightning from the Penguins in March, but asked Tampa to trade him back to Pittsburgh. Lightning GM Jay Feaster, who was very happy with Bergevin's contributions to his team, felt he should honor the player's request.
