Now that the lockout is over, Brendan Morrison is looking for a potential employer.
Morrison had four goals and 11 points in 39 games with the Calgary Flames and Chicago Blackhawks in 2011-12. At the age of 37, there's no guarantee that a team will have a spot for him on its roster. "Everything’s up in the air," said Morrison. "I don’t know. Do I feel I can play? Yes, I do. Am I absolutely dying to play? No, but I would like to play if it’s the right situation and I’m a good fit. That’s where I’m at now. There’s a lot of uncertainty right now. We’ll see what happens." Wed, Jan 9, 2013 10:02:00 AM

Brendan Morrison is surprised the gap hasn't closed between the two sides yet.

Wednesday's talks, which included mediators, finished with no progress. The mediators reportedly asked the players if they'd accept the NHL's last offer if it was put back on the table, but that didn't go too far. "Definitely a good word to use would be frustrating," Morrison said about the situation. "It’s bargaining. It has to be give and take. It just cant be give and it just can’t be take from one side to the other. I never thought the issues were as big as they were back in 04-05. Apparently, I was wrong. I thought the gap would be closed much quicker, but it hasn’t come to fruition yet, so we have to keep working."

Brendan Morrison is concerned that fans don't care enough about the lockout.

"People don’t care as much this time around — that’s what’s scary," Morrison said, comparing this lockout to the one that cost us the 2004-05 campaign. "Last time, people were in an uproar, right? This time around, I don’t sense that as much . . . it’s almost like, ‘So what? I’ll save 20 grand on season tickets this year.’ That’s a little bit scary." Gauging fans overall sentiment and comparing it to the 2004-05 lockout at this point would be a near impossible task. However, it's worth noting that "Together We Can," the anti-lockout YouTube video, is closing in on 900,000 views since it was released on August 31.

Brendan Morrison's dismal 2011-12 campaign and the ongoing CBA negotiations have made it difficult for him to find a new home as an unrestricted free agent.

"We've talked to a couple of teams but it's been real slow and with guys who are considered older, teams want to see what's going to happen with the CBA before much action is going to take place," said the 37-year-old center. Morrison recorded 11 points in 39 games between Calgary and Chicago last season.

Brendan Morrison hopes to return to playing in the NHL next year, but he isn't sure what's going to happen after a rough 2011-12 season.

"This season was a long season as far as trying to get back to full health after knee surgery last year, but I feel good now," he said. "I'm going to prepare like I'm going to play and then we will have to make a decision later in the summer. I don't think anything is going to happen early in the summer, but I'm going to prepare." He was scratched in 21 of Chicago's final 31 regular season games and skated mostly on the fourth line when he did play. Morrison appeared in three playoff contests, but his arrival on the Blackhawks didn't go well after he struggled with Calgary prior to the move. In 39 games between both clubs, he ended up with four goals and seven assists.

Brendan Morrison, who had been a healthy scratch in the previous 14 games, scored once for the Blackhawks Thursday.

Morrison played only 9:32 minutes on Thursday, the second lowest on the Blackhawks, ahead of only enforcer Brandon Bollig, as he saw fourth line duty. His goal cut the Coyotes lead in half to 2-1 and got Chicago back in the game. Stay tuned as his goal may have been enough to keep him in the Game 5 lineup.

Brendan Morrison replaced the injured Dave Bolland on Thursday.

It has been a tough time for the center as he was a healthy scratch for 14 straight games and 18 overall since the Blackhawks acquired him at the All-Star break, hoping he would help out at center. But with Morrison still not 100 percent from off-season knee surgery, he has struggled to play for Chicago. He is not worth looking at in playoff pools at this time.

Brendan Morrison has spent 18 games in the press box since the Chicago Blackhawks acquired him from Calgary.

There was some hope that Morrison would be able to center Chicago's second line, but that obviously hasn't happened. Morrison has no points in nine games with Chicago and shouldn't be counted on to make an impact in playoff leagues.

Brendan Morrison suited up Wednesday after he was a healthy scratch for 10 straight games.

He logged 14:36 if ice time while centering Chicago's fourth line and playing on the penalty kill. Morrison has appeared in just eight games with the Blackhawks, while generating no points, since he was acquired from Calgary in late January.

Brendan Morrison played on Sunday after spending two games in the press box.

Morrison hasn't made a significant impact with the Blackhawks since they acquired him on January 27th. He had a blocked shot and a hit in 12:20 minutes of playing time Sunday.

Brendan Morrison was a healthy scratch Thursday for the third time in eight games.

Morrison has been a huge disappointment for the Blackhawks who picked him up from Calgary during the All-Star break with the hope that he could center the second line. But it has not worked out thus far. ‘‘It’s a work in progress, for sure," Morrison said. "There’s been a lot of mixing and matching. They’re trying to figure it out and see if we can find some chemistry and see what’s going to work. But I’m not happy.’’ Morrison is still having trouble recovering from off-season knee surgery that occurred 10 months ago and while he feels fine sometimes, at other times it still gives him trouble. We obviously cannot recommend him at this time.

Brendan Morrison will be a healthy scratch for the Blackhawks tonight at Nashville.

For the second time since joining the Blackhawks in late January, Morrison will be healthy and watching from the press box. Morrison has failed to register a point in five games with Chicago.

Brendan Morrison will not be in the Chicago lineup Tuesday.

Morrison was acquired by the Blackhawks during the All-Star break and Chicago has et to win with him in the lineup. John Scott will draw into the lineup. It is not wise to have Morrison in your fantasy lineup at this time.

Recently acquired center Brendan Morrison was not in the lineup Friday night when the Chicago Blackhawks increased their winless streak to seven games in a row with a 5-3 loss to the Sharks in San Jose.

Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said he is trying to get a feel for where the veteran fits. Morrison has gone from being on the second line to the fourth to being a healthy scratch Friday. ‘‘The first couple games you play with guys that put up big numbers,’’ Morrison said recently. ‘‘You don’t score in the first two games you’re with them, you start thinking you’re the problem. But you can’t get too hard on yourself. There’s kind of ebbs and flows over the course of the year.’’

Brendan Morrison has been shuffled throughout Chicago's lineup since his arrival.

He has played with the second, third and fourth line combinations. "At some point, it'd be nice to get some regular linemates, but you have to figure out where you fit in," Morrison said. "Really, I just need to play a bit. I haven't played a whole lot, even before I got dealt here. ... You get in a little better game shape, then hopefully that'll help things." He hasn't recorded a point in four games with the Blackhawks.
