As a brief distraction from the wildness of the NHL playoffs, Bates Battaglia and his brother Anthony have won the 22nd season of "The Amazing Race."
The brothers beat out three other duos for the $1 million prize in a two-hour finale, which aired Sunday night. "It's a lot like hockey. It's very competitive," said the former NHL forward. "You're going nonstop. It gets your competitive spirit going. It's nonstop racing, just a great time." Our congratulations go out to Bates and his brother for their accomplishment. It has been reported that former NHLer Bates Battaglia has signed on to participate in the 22nd edition of the Amazing Race.

Although this has yet to be confirmed, it appears that Battaglia and his brother Anthony were seen with the rest of the cast at Los Angeles Airport 11 days ago. What do you want from us? It's a slow news day.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have sent Bates Battaglia to the minors on a conditioning stint.

Battaglia will move from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Toronto Marlies so he doesn't have to leave home. Battaglia has played in only 13 games this season (none since Nov. 24) and has yet to register a point.

Bates Battaglia has been placed on waivers.

Battaglia has spent nine of Toronto's last ten games in the press box. The veteran winger has scored 80 goals and registered 118 assists in 580 career games. However, he has been scoreless in 13 games this season and has taken just six shots on net.

Bates Battaglia was a healthy scratch in seven of the last eight games

Battaglia isn't gifted offensively so this shouldn't affect your fantasy team.

The Maple Leafs have re-signed Bates Battaglia to a two-year deal.

The deal is worth $650,000 per season. While Battaglia is a serviceable player in the big leagues, he will not help fantasy teams much.

Bates Battaglia has seen his minutes increase significantly this season.

Battaglia made the Leafs and started the year on the fourth line. He has seen his minutes rise from five-per-night to the 13-15 he gets to play now. Skating with Michael Peca, he is a good checker, although certainly not an amazing fantasy option.

Bates Battaglia has received medical clearance to return to action, reports the Washington Post.

He will likely play tomorrow against the Islanders in place of Jeff Halpern (who will likely be a healthy scratch), after missing three games with a bruised foot.

Bates Battaglia missed last night's game with a bruised foot.

He is listed as day-to-day. Adjust your lineup accordingly.

Bates Battaglia was traded to the Capitals along with prospect Jonas Johansson for Steve Konowalchuk and a fourth round pick in next year's amateur draft, reports the Denver Post.

Battaglia will essentially play the same role in Washington that he did in Colorado, namely a third line winger. He may get a few more chances on the power play, or a turn or two on one of Washington's top two lines, but his fantasy value doesn't change much as a result of this trade. The 28-year-old Battaglia is a bit bigger, younger and cheaper ($640,000 per season cheaper) than Konowalchuk, but they are very similar players.

Bates Battaglia was a healthy scratch for last night's game.

It was the first time Battalia failed to dress when healthy for the Avalanche since he was acquired in a trade last season. In other Colorado news, D.J.Smith was recalled from Hershey of the AHL to take the place of the injured Martin Skoula.

Bates Battaglia was re-signed by the Avalanche.

The 27 year old Battaglia had 6 goals and 25 points along with 100 PIM in 83 games last season, split between Carolina and the Avs. With the additions of Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne, Battaglia will likely skate on the Avs' 3rd line, rather than having either Joe Sakic or Peter Forsberg as his centreman. If this holds true, don't expect significant fantasy production from Battaglia, but if something changes between now and opening night, Battaglia has enough talent to be fantasy worthy on the offensively stacked Avalanche.

Bates Battaglia will play on a line with Joe Sakic tonight.

As expected, Battaglia will be expected to create room for the talented Sakic, with Steve Reinprecht likely rounding out the trio. Battaglia's fantasy value has increased substantially, so if you own him, hope he and Sakic click right away as it could pay huge dividends.

Bates Battaglia has been traded to the Avalanche for Radim Vrbata, reports TSN.

Battaglia has had a horrible year in Carolina, scoring only 5 goals (18 points in 69 games) and was often singled out by Hurricanes' coach Paul Maurice as being an underachiever. He has some playoff experience and has speed and size which could open up the ice for some of Colorado's more skilled players. It is possible that Battaglia could play on a line with Joe Sakic, and if he does, his fantasy value will skyrocket.

It looks as if Bates Battaglia is in Hurricanes' coach Paul Maurice's doghouse.

The Raleigh News and Observer reports that Maurice soundly criticized Battaglia's play as of late, and gave some of his ice time to recent call-up Jaroslav Svoboda. Just something we thought you should know about.
