The Philadelphia Flyers' parent company, Comcast Spectacor, have bought the ECHL Alaska Aces and plan to hand day-to-day operations of the franchise to Daniel Briere.
Briere has been working with the business side of the Flyers for two years after announcing his the end of his playing career in 2015. Comcast Spectacor is also moving the Aces to Portland, Maine, starting with the 2018-19 campaign. This ECHL franchise won't be actually affiliated with the Flyers in terms of prospects though because Philadelphia already has an affiliation agreement with the ECHL Reading Royals. "I still love the game and I wish I was still playing (but) it wasn’t just about myself and about playing," said Brière, who looks forward to getting closer to his three sons. "There’s no doubt in my mind. I’m very comfortable with the decision. I feel like it’s time and I’m making the right decision." He finishes his career with 307 goals and 696 points.

Daniel Briere is still not sure if he'll retire this summer.

"I’ll have to start thinking about it more and more in the next couple of weeks," Briere said. He's an unrestricted free agent after scoring eight goals and 12 points in 57 games with the Colorado Avalanche last season. He's a veteran of 973 contests and has scored 307 goals and 696 points.

Daniel Briere is considering hanging up the skates at 37 years old.

"At some point, you have to take a step back and analyze everything. I will not take the decision alone," Briere said in reference to his three sons. "I just missed two seasons of their hockey, two years of school where I was not there to help them." Briere, a veteran of 973 career games with Phoenix (now Arizona), Buffalo, Philadelphia, Montreal, and most recently Colorado, has been a reliable scoring threat from October to June throughout his career. Briere has amassed 307 goals and 696 points during the regular season, but it's his 53 goals and 116 points over 124 career postseason games that nets the Gatineau, Quebec native his notoriety. If he does come back, it'll likely have to be for a lot less than his $4M salary and cap hit he enjoyed the last two seasons once free agency begins on July 1st. Briere will be 38 in October.

Daniel Briere will be listed as a healthy scratch once again Wednesday night against Pittsburgh.

He has played in just one game since February 12th and is unfortunately running out of time to make an impact on the young Avalanche team this season. He has played in 48 games this season, registering eight goals and 11 points with a minus six rating and 18 penalty minutes. The former 30-plus goal scorer is no longer an impactful fantasy player. Joey Hishon will make his regular season debut in place of Briere.
