Daniel Briere is getting the start on the Avalanche’s top line.

Colorado has a whopping nine players injured, so Briere will get a crack at playing with Ryan O’Reilly and Matt Duchene. The 37-year-old could have a tough time matching his linemates’ pace, but it’s certainly a great opportunity. He has three goals and four points in 13 games, averaging 11:31 of ice time.

Daniel Briere has been a healthy scratch in six consecutive games.

The Avalanche acquired Briere from the Canadiens this off-season, but he's had a hard time getting into the lineup. The 37-year-old has been on the decline for a while now. His days as a consistent point-producer are over. He can be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Despite skating on Colorado's third line, look for Daniel Briere to play well against his former team, the Canadiens, Saturday night.

He will no doubt want to show Habs' coach Michel Therrien he made a mistake in how Briere was deployed last season. Briere is coming off a big game Monday in which he scored the winning goal with the less than a second left in regulation. It will be interesting to see if he can ride the momentum of that marker to exact revenge on his former coach.
Oct 18 - 12:32 PM

Daniel Briere scored his 300th career goal in style in Colorado's 2-1 victory over Boston Monday afternoon.

Briere found the back of the net with just 0.5 seconds left in regulation time. After back-to-back shutout losses against Minnesota, the Avalanche needed a game like this to get them back on track. Jamie McGinn accounted for Colorado's other goal. Tyson Barrie, Matt Duchene, Jan Hejda, and Nathan MacKinnon each finished the game with an assist.
Oct 13 - 3:39 PM

Daniel Brière re-joined his teammates on the ice today, after he returned home for family reasons.

Brière’s son was injured during a hockey game and the 36-year-old returned home to be with him. The Avalanche have a game tonight in Montreal but Brière isn’t expected to play. He should be in the line-up when Colorado plays the Canadiens in Quebec City tomorrow night.
Sep 25 - 1:43 PM

Daniel Briere has been traded the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for P.A. Parenteau and a fifth-round pick in the 2015.

Briere didn't have a memorable homecoming on the stat sheet, with 13 goals and 25 points in 69 games as a member of the Montreal Canadiens during the regular season. He added seven points in 17 playoff contests. He could serve as a mentor for a young, up-and-coming Avalanche group.

That gives Briere three goals and seven points in 13 playoff games. That's pretty good when you factor in that he's been averaging just 10:27 minutes per contest.

Danny Briere was a warrior for the Habs in their Game 7 battle with the Bruins on Wednesday night, assisting on Montreal's opening goal and scoring the Habs' insurance marker in the team's 3-1 win over Boston.

Briere was a healthy scratch in Game 5, but responded in a big way when it really mattered. His cross-ice feed to Dale Weise gave the Habs an early lead, and power play goal late in the third put the nail in the coffin for the once mighty Bruins. Briere has two goals and six points in 10 post season games.
