Daniel Briere has been traded the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for P.A. Parenteau and a fifth-round pick in the 2015.
Briere didn't have a memorable homecoming on the stat sheet, with 13 goals and 25 points in 69 games as a member of the Montreal Canadiens during the regular season. He added seven points in 17 playoff contests. He could serve as a mentor for a young, up-and-coming Avalanche group. Jun 30 - 2:43 PM

Daniel Briere scored a goal in Montreal's 3-2 overtime win Thursday night.

That gives Briere three goals and seven points in 13 playoff games. That's pretty good when you factor in that he's been averaging just 10:27 minutes per contest.
May 23 - 9:42 AM

Danny Briere was a warrior for the Habs in their Game 7 battle with the Bruins on Wednesday night, assisting on Montreal's opening goal and scoring the Habs' insurance marker in the team's 3-1 win over Boston.

Briere was a healthy scratch in Game 5, but responded in a big way when it really mattered. His cross-ice feed to Dale Weise gave the Habs an early lead, and power play goal late in the third put the nail in the coffin for the once mighty Bruins. Briere has two goals and six points in 10 post season games.
May 14 - 10:29 PM

Daniel Briere was back in the lineup on Monday after he was a healthy scratch in Game 5.

He saw 10:01 of ice time in Montreal's 4-0 victory over Boston. Briere has a goal and three assists in nine postseason contests, with two of his helpers coming in five appearances against the Bruins in Round 2. Travis Moen was a healthy scratch instead.
May 13 - 10:28 AM

Renaud Lavoie is reporting that Daniel Briere will be healthy scratch Saturday night against Boston.

He added that Brandon Prust might draw back into the lineup in Briere's place after he missed the past two contests. Briere has a goal and three assists in eight games this postseason. He has averaged just 10:26 of ice time per match.
May 10 - 6:16 PM

Daniel Briere gave Montreal a 1-0 lead just 2:24 into the first period.

The Canadiens had a 3-1 advantage going into the third, but Tampa Bay rallied to even the score. Max Pacioretty scored on the power play to give Montreal a 4-3 win with just 43 seconds left on the clock. Briere logged just 9:34 of ice time in the match, but he did get 1:21 of it on the power play. He had a goal and an assist in four matches during the Habs' sweep of the Lightning.
Apr 23 - 8:20 AM

Daniel Briere doesn't want to write off the Tampa Bay Lightning in Montreal's first round series.

Montreal has a 3-0 lead going into Game 4 on Tuesday. "The Lightning are a tenacious team," said Briere. "We saw it this year after they lost Stamkos (with a broken leg in November). Everyone expected them to fall apart and they did the opposite, they came together and finished strong to come second in the division. I expect the same from them tonight. They've faced adversity before and they won't give up that easily." They overcame the loss of Stamkos in large part due to the efforts of Martin St. Louis and Ben Bishop. St. Louis is gone after demanding a trade and Bishop is hurt, which makes the Lightning's nearly impossible task all the more daunting.

Apr 22 - 4:41 PM

Daniel Briere has amassed 50 goals and 109 points in 108 career playoff games.

"When I prepare, what I'm thinking is that I want to be the guy that makes the big play," he said. "I want the puck when the game's on the line. It's not about thinking that I'm a playoff performer or that I'm better than anyone. I wish it was clearer or that there was a better explanation, but there really isn't." However, Briere may not get a chance to make much of an impact for the Canadiens in the 2014 postseason. He could end up skating on the team's third or fourth line.
Apr 16 - 7:47 AM

After a season in which he sat out some games, spent much of his time on the fourth line and ranked 21st on the team in average ice time per game at 12:46, Daniel Briere believes it's time to deliver for the Montreal Canadiens.

"For me, the mindset going in has never been ‘I’m a playoff performer,’" the 36-year-old said Monday. "When I prepare, what I’m thinking is that I want to be the guy that makes the big play. I want the puck when the game’s on the line. It’s not about thinking that I’m a playoff performer or that I’m better than anyone. I wish it was clearer or that there was a better explanation, but there really isn’t." The Canadiens, who inked Briere to a two-year contact worth $4 million a season, will need his post-season scoring touch when they face the tight-checking Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs, starting Wednesday. The Bolts won three of their four meetings, but three of the games went to either overtime or a shootout. Briere had 13 goals and 12 assists in 69 games this season. But Montreal scored only four regulation-time goals in four games against Tampa, and Briere had two of them.
Apr 15 - 11:45 AM

Daniel Briere produced a power-play goal in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Buffalo.

His marker prevented Montreal's power play from going 0-for-6 in the match. "We had some chances," said Briere, who got 2:01 of ice time with the man advantage in the contest. "(Buffalo goaltender Matt) Hackett was good. And even on our chances we seemed to miss the net on a few occasions. One thing we talked about after the second period was trying to hit the net a little bit more and good things would happen." He has two points in his last two games to give him 24 on the year.
Mar 26 - 7:52 AM

Daniel Briere notched a pair of goals and added a helper for the Canadiens in Thursday's 6-5 shootout win over Pittsburgh.

Briere's first season in Montreal has been a massive disappointment to-date, but for one night he was the primary reason for a victory. Max Pacioretty, Brendan Gallagher and Alexei Emelin all found the back of the net for Montreal in the win.
Feb 27 - 10:48 PM

Daniel Briere had Montreal's only goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday afternoon.

Brian Gionta earned the lone assist on the play. Briere has two goals and one assist in his past two games, but he's been a big disappointment offensively this season and shouldn't be on your fantasy roster. He logged just 8:41 of ice time in Saturday's defeat.
Feb 1 - 4:38 PM

Daniel Briere contributed a goal and an assist for the Canadiens as they outplayed Boston to a 4-1 result Thursday.

The goal was the first he scored since he registered a pair on January 4th, snapping a string of 10 games, and the assist was just his third in 21 contests. Alexei Emelin, Max Pacioretty and Brian Gionta all found the back of the net in the Montreal win.
Jan 30 - 9:57 PM

Danny Briere lit the lamp twice for the Canadiens in their 4-3 overtime loss to the Senators on Saturday night.

Briere also added an assist on Brian Gionta's goal. Briere was brought in to add some punch to the lineup, but he has just seven goals and 13 points this season and was scratched the last two games. These were his first points since Dec. 4, a span of 10 games without one. Doug Murray and Tomas Plekanec picked up two helpers.
Jan 4 - 10:38 PM

Daniel Briere will dress Saturday night after being a healthy scratch for the last two games.

"For sure I am happy to be back in the lineup," he said. "That's what we train for. Whether you're 18 or 36, it's never easy to be scratched, and it's always a great feeling to be on the ice." He'll play between Travis Moen and Michael Bournival.
