Bryce Salvador, who missed most of the 2014-15 campaign with a back injury, wants to play next season.
Salvador had two assists in just 15 games this season and hasn't played since Nov. 10. "I'm to the point where I'm active again and I've been able to start rehab. I've been doing some rehab over the last several months. So we're just kind of playing it by ear, seeing if it gets back to the point where I'm able to play with it," Salvador said. Even if he does get to the point where he can play again though, he might not end up doing so. At the age of 39, he's set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. For their part, the Devils GM Lou Lamoriello isn't revealing whether he would be interested in re-signing Salvador. Apr 14 - 11:19 AM

Devils GM and interim coach Lou Lamoriello hasn't considered moving the captaincy from Bryce Salvador after the now 39-year-old suffered what has proven to be a season-ending back injury.

It's something the Devils will likely deal with over the summer or 2015 training camp though. That's because Salvador is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and it seems unlikely for New Jersey to retain his services after Salvador was limited to 94 games over his last three seasons.
Mar 23 - 9:54 AM

Bryce Salvador (back) is traveling with the Devils for their three-game road trip, but he's not expected to return before its conclusion.

Salvador might be able to play before the end of the 2014-15 campaign, but it's unlikely. Given that he's 39 years old and this is the final season of his contract, it's unfortunately possible that he's already played in his last NHL game.
Mar 10 - 6:51 PM

Bryce Salvador (back) might play again this season, but the odds are stacked against him.

Salvador has been participating in off-ice workouts, but he hasn't resumed skating yet. Devils GM and interim coach Lou Lamoriello consequently described the chances of Salvador returning before the 2014-15 campaign ends as "very, very remote." Salvador, who hasn't played since Nov. 10, has two assists in 15 games in 2014-15.
Mar 5 - 9:59 AM

Bryce Salvador (back) has resumed working out off the ice.

The Devils have 25 games left this season and Salvador still hopes to return before the year is done. "That's the hope, but I can't answer that question," Lou Lamoriello said. "He has not been skating yet, but he's working out." Salvador has been out of action since Nov. 10 with a back injury.
Feb 18 - 3:25 PM

Bryce Salvador has been sidelined since Nov. 10 because of a back injury.

"He's under doctor's care with his back and it's just a case of when they feel he has the strength to come (back)," GM and interim coach Lou Lamoriello said. "I think it's going to be sooner than later. It's not going to be that long." Salvador has two assists in 15 games this season.
Jan 22 - 5:47 PM

Bryce Salvador (lower body) has yet to start skating after being injured on November 10.

The Devils and Salvador are silent on what is ailing the defenseman and he has missed the last 31 games. "It's hard to explain," GM Lou Lamoriello said when asked about the injury that Salvador sustained. "With the style he plays, until he gets clearance from the doctors, he cannot practice." At age 38, you have to wonder if the blueliner's career is over.
Jan 18 - 8:41 AM

Bryce Salvador (lower body) said he is making progress.

However, he hasn't played since Nov. 10 and he isn't skating yet, so his return doesn't appear to imminent.

Bryce Salvador's current lower-body injury isn't related to his previous hip problem.

Salvador's 2013-14 campaign was cut short due to a torn hip labrum. He has two assists in 15 games this season.

Bryce Salvador (lower body) has been moved to the injured reserve list.

The move is retroactive to Nov. 10, so Salvador can be called up whenever he's healthy. That being said, the Devils don't plan to take him on their upcoming four-game road trip, so his return obviously isn't imminent.

Bryce Salvador will miss Tuesday's game with a lower-body injury.

Salvador has two points and 20 penalty minutes in 15 games this season. He's one of those players that matters considerably more to his actual team than he does to standard league fantasy owners.

There are some New Jersey Devil fans who are booing team captain Bryce Salvador.

The veteran defenseman claims that he doesn't hear the booing but his teammates have come to his defense. "If you’re going to boo anyone, I don’t know why you boo Bryce Salvador," teammate Ryane Clowe said. "The people in New Jersey seem like they like honest, hard-working players and you don’t get anybody more honest or more of a team guy. He’s already stuck his nose in there a couple times for teammates and he’s the captain. That’s why guys love him." That being said, Salvador has no fantasy value.

Bryce Salvador logged just 12:59 minutes of ice time on Thursday.

Salvador only took two shifts in the third period and he wasn't used at all in overtime. "We were down," Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. "If we were up, a guy like Salvador is playing all the time. If we’re down, we"re looking for offense at that point and you readjust the bench forwards and defensemen." Salvador has averaged 19:10 minutes per contest in 2014-15.

The New Jersey Devils are having some trouble with their penalty killing.

Bryce Salvador and Andy Greene were on the ice for both of the Sharks power play goals on Saturday as the Devils have now given up six goals on 26 chances. "We have a good PK," Salvador said. "Right now we’ve come up against some of the top power plays in the league. Right now some of the minors (two-minute penalties) we’re taking are costing us. But I don’t think it was the difference in the game. We had our chances and could’ve easily tied it up and won. We had them hemmed in and we felt like we were going to get it and tie it up."

Although Bryce Salvador is healthy, he's only played in one preseason game thus far.

Salvador dealt with a hip injury last season and that likely is related to the Devils' decision to give him a relatively light workload over the preseason. He plans to play in at least one more exhibition contest before the regular season starts.
