The New York Rangers have confirmed that they will not sign Tomas Kaberle.
Kaberle reportedly received an offer, but it would have involved staying in AHL Hartford and he didn't want to go down that road. He had already played two games with the minor league team on an AHL tryout agreement and he practiced with the Rangers before that. If Kaberle is done in the NHL, then he will finish with 87 goals and 563 points in 984 career games. Mon, Nov 17, 2014 02:52:00 PM

It looks like Tomas Kaberle won't sign with the New York Rangers after all.

The Rangers reportedly offered Kaberle a contract that would have resulted in him staying with AHL Hartford, but the 36-year-old wasn't interested in that arrangement. He spent two games with Hartford on a tryout agreement.

The New York Rangers will probably sign Tomas Kaberle.

Kaberle was released from his professional tryout agreement with AHL Hartford. He had two assists in two AHL contests during that stint. Even if the Rangers do sign Kaberle, we wouldn't count on him having any fantasy value at this stage of his career.

Tomas Kaberle apparently isn't rushing the New York Rangers to make a decision regarding possibly signing him.

The unsigned free agent certainly has an impressive resume for a guy without a gig, although he's far removed from his productive days with the Toronto Maple Leafs. That said, it's still a situation to watch.

Tomas Kaberle will travel with the Rangers to Toronto so that he can continue to practice with them.

Kaberle hasn't signed with New York and it sounds like that won't change in the very near future. "I'm here on tryout, for now I'll just practice with the team and take it day by day," Kaberle said. "There are a lot of guys hurt so I'll do my best to fill the role and whatever they need and do my best." Unrestricted free agent Tomas Kaberle practiced with the Rangers on Friday.

The Rangers are toying with the idea of signing Kaberle to provide them with some extra defensive depth. He used to be a great offensive defenseman, but we can't recommend picking him up in standard leagues if he's signed by the Rangers.

Kaberle took part in the Devils' training camp, but didn't make the team. Rangers defensemen Ryan McDonagh, Kevin Klein, and Dan Boyle are currently on the sidelines, so it's not surprising that they're interested in adding some veteran depth.
