Arron Asham scored what is considered the game-winning goal in the Rangers' 5-0 triumph in Game 7.
Asham now has a team-leading two goals in the playoffs despite averaging 6:22 per game. It was his slapshot in the first period that began the scoring. The 35-year-old has 11 career playoff goals in 69 games. "I don’t think the coach is expecting me to go out there and dangle five guys and roof one," Asham joked. "I play a simple game. I get the puck in, I use my forecheck and whenever the guys get it to me, I try to get it on net the best I can." May 14 - 10:16 AM

Arron Asham was activated from the IL on Sunday and played for the first time since missing 15 games with a back injury.

He played just 6:39 in the Rangers' 3-2 shootout loss to Washington, but managed to score his second goal of the season in the process.
Mar 25 - 1:59 AM

Arron Asham looks ready to return from an extended absence due to a back injury.

It appears that Jeff Halpern's roster spot should be taken by Asham as soon as Sunday. However, the tough guy has no fantasy value.
Mar 24 - 9:45 AM

Arron Asham is targeting Sunday's game against Washington as a possible return date from his back injury.

"Yeah I think I'm a few games away, maybe Sunday," Asham said. "I've got three good skates in right now and everything is feeling pretty good. I've just got to get my wind going and I should be fine." He hasn't played since Feb. 19.
Mar 20 - 2:05 PM

Arron Asham participated in the team's morning skate Monday and feels close to being able to return from a back injury.

"Right now, I feel my back would hold up through a game," he said. "It's just getting back into game shape." Monday marked the first time he skated with his teammates since last Wednesday's practice at Winnipeg. Asham has sat out 13 straight games.
Mar 19 - 7:49 AM

Arron Asham missed Thursday night's game against the Ottawa Senators with an undisclosed injury.

It's not considered to be serious, but we'll sideline him just to be safe. He has no fantasy value.

Arron Asham played only 1:57 in his return to action on Saturday.

The tough guy has not fantasy value.
Jan 27 - 3:04 AM

Arron Asham (groin) isn't ready to return to New York's lineup on Thursday night.

He won't face the Philadelphia Flyers and missed Wednesday's game against Boston, so a couple of games where he could've gotten penalty minutes have fallen down the drain. He tested his mild groin strain on Thursday morning and is hoping that he'll be able to play Saturday against the Maple Leafs. Kris Newbury, who was recently recalled from the minors, will play in his place.
Jan 24 - 3:58 PM

Arron Asham missed Wednesday's game against the Bruins with a mild groin strain.

The tough guy is considered day to day. Stu Bickel took his spot on the fourth line, with Steve Eminger replacing him in the lineup.
Jan 23 - 8:24 PM

Arron Asham is listed as doubtful for Wednesday's game versus Boston because of a mild groin strain.

If he can't play then Stu Bickel will likely move from defense to the fourth line to take his place and defenseman Steve Eminger will dress for the first time this season on the back end.
Jan 23 - 10:51 AM

Arron Asham missed New York Rangers practice Tuesday with a mild groin strain.

In a normal season, this wouldn't be a big deal, but in the lockout-shortened season, groin strains and the like are going to be treated with more care than usual. Coach John Tortorella said he's "not sure" if Asham will play Wednesday. Torts said if Asham sits, the Rangers could move Stu Bickel up to wing and play Steve Eminger on defense. We should know something definitive after tomorrow's morning skate.
Jan 22 - 12:08 PM

Having finished his suspension from the playoffs, Arron Asham is set to join the New York Rangers lineup on Sunday night.

He'll play against his former team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Perhaps that will increase the odds of him dropping the gloves, then?
Jan 20 - 4:20 PM

Arron Asham still has one game left to serve on his four-game ban, which stems from Game 3 of the 2012 playoffs.

The former Pittsburgh forward cross-checked Flyers forward Brayden Schenn in the face. Asham will be eligible to return when the Rangers host the Penguins in their home opener on Sunday night.
Jan 17 - 10:30 AM

Arron Asham, formerly of the Penguins, has signed a two-year, $2 milion contract with the Rangers.

Asham is a much better hockey player than fantasy one. He should be a fine replacement for Brandon Prust who will no doubt be leaving the Big Apple for greener pastures. That said, Asham does not really have any appeal in hockey pools.
Sun, Jul 1, 2012 02:39:00 PM

It is becoming very unlikely that Arron Asham will return to Pittsburgh next season.

Asham is set to become an unrestricted free agent Sunday and the Penguins have made no real attempt to re-sign him. Wherever he ends up, look for Asham to continue his career as a third or fourth line checking winger with no fantasy value.
