Sean Burke could reportedly be the next GM of Hockey Canada's 2018 Olympic team.
TSN's Darren Dreger says there are indications that Burke would get the role if the NHL decides not to go to the Olympics. Hockey Canada would presumably hire a current NHL GM if NHLers end up going to the Winter Games. Sat, May 13, 2017 11:27:00 AM

Coyotes goaltending coach Sean Burke has been given permission to talk to other organizations about potential front office jobs.

"I had gone to (General Manager Don Maloney) originally and just asked him," Burke said. "It was sort of kind of a plan recommended to me, to get out there and make sure before the season is over if you're going to pursue some of those opportunities, you're best trying to do it now. It was nice of Don to do that." Burke has talked with 10 different teams at this point, but he doesn't think he'll engage in any formal interviews until after the season. His ultimate goal is to become a general manager, so that's why a front office job appeals to him more than a coaching gig.

The Coyotes have picked up options on goalie coach Sean Burke and associate coach Jim Playfair.

GM Don Maloney made the announcement at a news conference Tuesday. Maloney is hoping to re-sign coach Dave Tippett and picking up the options on his trusted lieutenants surely won't hurt matters. Burke has also been a key factor in the growth of goalie Mike Smith, who is also a free agent. We'll see if retaining Burke and Playfair help Maloney keep the gang together.

Sean Burke has been hired as the Phoenix Coyotes new goalie coach.

"I want our preparation to be always consistent, as well, so the team knows their goaltending is ready every night," said Burke. "The guys can go out, play their game, play the system, and know the goaltending is going to be there for them." Dave King was also brought in as an assistant to the Coyotes' coaching staff on Monday.

Sean Burke announced his retirement Tuesday, ending a long and impressive career between the pipes.

At 40 years of age, Burke has played for nine NHL teams since being drafted 24th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 1985 entry draft. He is a three time NHL all-star with 324 career victories and 38 career shutouts (sixth on the all time NHL list). Age had slowed him down over the past few years as he had become a number two goalie on the often struggling Los Angeles Kings. This doesn't affect the Kings much since Dan Cloutier is slated to start most games this year.

Sean Burke stopped 24 shots in Thursday night's 4-3 loss to the Blackhawks in a shootout.

Jamie Lundmark, Brian Willsie, Scott Thornton scored for the Kings, while Raitis Ivanans, Dustin Brown, and Patrick O'Sullivan earned an assist each in the game.

Sean Burke made 39 saves on 42 Anahiem shots in LA’s 4-3 shootout win over the Ducks.

Burke has been putting up great numbers when he plays. Unfortunately, that is not enough to warrant a role on fantasy rosters. Ducks' goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere had a poor night by his standards allowing three goals on 21 shots. He is a must start in all pool formats.

According to the LA Times, 40-year old Sean Burke may return to the Kings for another season.

"Sean's demeanor has been reassuring to our guys," head coach Marc Crawford said. "I don't think we've seen him be spectacular yet, but he has been steady and that has had a calming effect." Burke has been putting up some nice numbers. He has a 2.16 goals-against average and .932 save percentage. However, he doesn't play enough to be considered for fantasy rosters.

Sean Burke made 40 saves for his 38th career shutout, as Los Angeles hammered Florida 7-0 on Saturday.

Burke's performance was a stark contrast to his opponents in the Florida net. Ed Belfour was yanked after giving up three goals on just six first period shots. His replacement, Alex Auld, met the same fate, allowing four goals on 17 shots the rest of the way. It was truly a strange game in Sunrise.

Sean Burke left Saturday's game due to dehydration.

The game was Burke's first in Los Angeles after being claimed from waivers last week. It looks like it may take the veteran netminder a few games before he is in game-shape.

Sean Burke has been claimed on waivers by the Los Angeles Kings.

Tampa Bay called him up but he had to pass through waivers first and Los Angeles put a claim in on him. The 39-year-old veteran will be a welcomed addition to the Kings as both their top two goaltenders Mathieu Garon and Dan Cloutier are out of action. "He's an NHL goaltender," Kings GM Dean Lombardi about Burke. "He's a character guy. But we're not sure what to expect. In fairness to him, he hasn't played a lot this year." If you are in desperate need of a goaltender, Burke may help you.

Sean Burke was recalled by the Lightning on Monday.

He was recalled not to play, but rather to see if any other team would claim him when he went through re-entry waivers. If this had happened, Tampa Bay would have saved half of the 1.6 million they are paying him this season. "And because the league does not allow paper transactions," general manager Jay Feaster said, "we will fly him in and have him spend the night at a hotel and send him back." Burke will begin the season in the minors, but may be claimed off waivers of traded for later in the season when some teams become desperate for help in net. If you have Burke, drop him, as he is not worth holding on to.

Sean Burke was placed on waivers by the Lightning.

Burke is scheduled to make $1.6 million this year, which will be a hard sell for a man who a 2.80 GAA and a .895 save percentage last year. It is unclear what the veteran will do should no other NHL team claim him.
