Devils fans booed Scott Gomez early in Sunday's preseason contest.
Gomez is on a tryout contract in the hopes of making the team. It's quite the fall from grace for him after he once bolted from New Jersey to the rival New York Rangers on a monster seven-year, $51.5 million deal. Gomez added that some fans confronted him during the team's warmups. "I got some guy telling me where to go right away, Jersey style," he said. "That was going to be expected, but it is what it is. That's being back in Jersey, that's for sure." He seemed to win some fans over with his two-goal performance in the exhibition game. Sep 29 - 10:37 AM

Scott Gomez scored two power play goals as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 3-1 on Sunday.

Gomez was invited to Devils’ camp on a pro tryout. The goals were Gomez’ first two of the preseason. The 34-year-old is making a case to be signed by the Devils. Even if he does make the team, Gomez hasn’t hit the 20-point mark since 2010. Marek Zidlicky also scored a goal and an assist in the win.

Scott Gomez is seeing some time on the point during the power play in the pre-season.

Gomez is an excellent passer and stickhandler and while he doesn't have a big shot, he could be of use on the power play. "My best asset, I think, is the other team looking at me and saying, ‘What the hell is he doing on the point?’ That maybe opens it up a little bit," Gomez said jokingly. "It's actually a sneak (tactic). I’m not going to intimidate anyone with my shot, but when you play with guys who can get open like (Michael) Ryder, they have to respect his shot. It opens a lot up." Gomez has had a few tough years fantasy-wise and he is better left on the waiver wire to start the season.
Sep 27 - 8:57 AM

Although he appears to be a long shot to crack the Devils’ line-up, Scott Gomez is hoping the team will offer him a contract before the regular season begins.

Gomez is in Devils’ camp on a try-out. "If anything, it feels like being a rookie again being here," said Gomez. "It’s good to be back in the area. I’ve seen a lot of people, like team employees and stuff, and not much has changed." The 34-year-old hasn’t been very productive since 2010. You can steer clear of Gomez in standard fantasy leagues.
Sep 25 - 6:41 PM

Scott Gomez thinks he can still be offensively productive if given the chance.

Gomez has gone from a guy who averages around a point-per-game to one who hasn't reached the 20-point mark since 2010-11. He thinks that's a result of his circumstances rather than a decline in his skills though. "I've always been a playmaker," Gomez said. "But the main question the last few years has been, 'Why can't he still do that?' Well, you're playing six minutes a night with guys who don't score. Fine. I'll play anywhere, but don't say I'm not the same player." He's impressed Devils coach Pete DeBoer so far, but Gomez will still have a hard time earning a roster spot given the Devils' logjam with 14 forwards already signed to one-way contracts.
Sep 24 - 9:54 AM

Scott Gomez has been invited to attend New Jersey's training camp.

"He felt he still had a lot of hockey in him and he's been working out this summer so I told him to come to camp," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "There are no promises. We certainly know what he has the capability of doing." In 46 games with the Florida Panthers last season, he contributed just two goals and 12 points. Gomez started his career with the Devils an played seven seasons with the club before signing a hefty seven-year, $51.5 million deal with the New York Rangers.
Aug 27 - 8:27 PM

Scott Gomez wasn't available to play Thursday because of an illness.

It was the second straight he missed as a result of not feeling well. Gomez has appeared in only 46 games with the Panthers this season, most of which he missed as a healthy scratch. He has two goals and 12 points this year.
Apr 11 - 7:55 AM

Scott Gomez scored a lone goal in Florida's 2-1 loss to Phoenix Thursday night.

It was Gomez's second goal of the season and first since opening night. Defenseman Dimitry Kulikov assisted the lone goal for the Panthers.
Mar 21 - 3:56 AM

Scott Gomez will remain with the Florida Panthers after clearing waivers on Wednesday.

Florida is going to play their young centers for the remainder of the season, so it's unlikely that Gomez will see much playing time. He has one goal and seven assists in 29 games this year.
Mar 6 - 10:53 AM

Scott Gomez has cleared waivers.

Gomez was placed on waivers Tuesday and none of the 29 other NHL teams were interested in his services. With only one goal and eight points in 29 games, it is not hard to see why. It remains to be seen if Gomez will remain with Florida or be sent to the minors. Stay tuned.
Mar 5 - 12:37 PM

The Florida Panthers have placed Scott Gomez on waivers.

Gomez has a goal and eight points in 29 games this season. There's a chance that a team might claim him for the sake of adding some veteran leadership.
Mar 4 - 12:30 PM

Scott Gomez will get out of the press box on Friday.

Gomez has a goal and five points in just 21 games in 2013-14. He's getting a chance to play though because Aleksander Barkov is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Jan 24 - 12:36 PM

Scott Gomez was a healthy scratch again on Saturday for the Florida Panthers.

He hasn't played in 16 of the past 18 games and his last appearance came on Dec. 28 against Detroit. Gomez has one goal, five points and 15 shots in 21 games this campaign.
Jan 13 - 10:13 AM

Scott Gomez will suit up for Florida on Saturday.

He has played in just one of the team's last 11 games and he's skated in five of the 22 games that interim coach Peter Horachek has been behind the bench. He's projected to play on the fourth line with Jimmy Hayes and Shawn Matthias.
Sat, Dec 28, 2013 04:50:00 PM

Since returning from a groin injury, Scott Gomez has barely been used by the Florida Panthers.

Gomez has only participated in one of the Panthers' last 10 contests. When he has played this season, he's averaging just 13:43 minutes per contest. He's been on a downward slope for a while and at the age of 34, there's very little reason to own him even in deeper leagues.
