Sharks coach Todd McLellan has been very happy with what Scott Gomez has given them this year.
Gomez is far removed from his days as an NHL star, but he's become an important piece of the Sharks' squad. "Gomer has been a very good player for us in a number of different ways," McLellan said. "I don’t want to say it’s surprising, but he’s almost like a third or a fourth coach. He’s trying to do things the right way. He’s trying to get guys to keep their shifts short, that we have a high guy, that we don’t turn pucks over. I didn’t know we were getting that in Scott Gomez, but we’re getting it, and he’s been a big influence that way." Gomez is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and it wouldn't be surprising if the Sharks re-signed him. May 17 - 3:50 PM

Date:

Scott Gomez will center the third line Thursday night in Game 2.

Joe Pavelski has been promoted to San Jose's top line, so Gomez will play between Tommy Wingels and James Sheppard. He has no points and six shots in three playoff appearances.

The San Jose Sharks worked on their second power play Saturday.

The Sharks had seven power play goals in four games from their first unit of Logan Couture, Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski, Patrick Marleau and Dan Boyle but nothing from anyone else so the second unit of T.J. Galiardi, Raffi Torres, Brent Burns, Matt Irwin and Scott Gomez got lots of work on Saturday. "He has a ton of experience there, and he seems to be able to settle things down on that power play unit. When it's in his hands, it's calm," coach Todd McLellan said of Gomez. "They gave us some quality minutes and created some situations where we didn't give up momentum, which is real important. There were times they created some momentum. We'd like that to continue."
May 12 - 10:19 AM

Scott Gomez (soreness) returned to the San Jose lineup for Game 3 Sunday.

Gomez had been out of the lineup since April 23. He played 16:39 minutes and had two shots on goal, a couple of hits and a blocked shot. He saw 4:44 minutes on the power play as the Sharks were happy with his play with the man-advantage but mostly saw time on the fourth line with James Sheppard and Adam Burish.
May 6 - 10:14 AM

Scott Gomez (soreness) could return to the San Hose lineup Sunday.

Gomez skated again on Saturday. He has been out of the lineup since April 23 and while he skated before Games 1 and 2 as well, coach Todd McLellan held him out of action. "There's no doubt we'd like to get him into the series. He makes a big difference to our team, especially with the power play," McLellan said of Gomez. "As soon as he's ready and feels good and knows that he can go into that type of competitive environment and contribute, then we'll use him." Gomez will be a game time decision.
May 5 - 10:09 AM

Scott Gomez (undisclosed) will not return on Friday.

Gomez was also unavailable for Game 1 of the Sharks' first-round series on Wednesday. He had two goals and 15 points in 39 games during the 2013 regular season.
May 3 - 3:40 PM

Scott Gomez will miss Wednesday's playoff opener due to an undisclosed injury.

It is believed he was hurt on a heavy hit from Dallas' Erik Cole on April 23 and he's still feeling the effects of the collision. Gomez missed the last two games of the regular season as well. "He's been a solid centerman for us," coach Todd McLellan said. "It affects us power play-wise, and what you don't see or hear, it affects us on the bench and in the locker room."
May 1 - 4:42 PM

Scott Gomez recorded an assist on Saturday.

Gomez has three points in his last five games. The Sharks have been limiting his playing time this season and that's not likely to change as they compete for the fourth seed in the Western Conference.
Apr 14 - 10:25 AM

Scott Gomez will probably return to San Jose's fourth line in Thursday's tilt with Detroit.

It looks like he'll be back between Andrew Desjardins and Adam Burish after being a surprise scratch Tuesday. "They told me they wanted a more physical lineup against Columbus," Gomez said Thursday morning. He has two goals and 12 points in 32 games with the Sharks this campaign.
Apr 11 - 6:19 PM

The multi-point game enjoyed by Scott Gomez in Saturday's loss to the Blues was the first such effort in some time.

You have to go all the way back to November 19, 2011 to find his last multi-point outing, a game against the New York Rangers in which he picked up two assists as a member of the Canadiens. With five points and a minus-5 rating in 17 games, it's clear Gomez's days a fantasy commodity are over.
Mar 10 - 9:26 AM

Scott Gomez notched a goal and an assist in San Jose's 4-3 overtime loss to St. Louis Saturday evening.

Gomez has two goals and three points in his last three games, but he isn't worthy of fantasy consideration yet. Defenseman Matt Irwin had a goal and a helper as well, while Logan Couture had the Sharks' other marker in the defeat.
Mar 9 - 6:42 PM

Scott Gomez scored his first goal as a member of the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

Gomez's goal came at 7:42 of the first period and immediately set off rounds of jokes on Twitter. The veteran center's scoring prowess, or lack thereof, has become a bit of a running joke over the years and has coincided with his fading fantasy value. He's spent most of the season on the third or fourth line and remains unlikely to contribute in most formats.
Mar 6 - 12:39 PM

Scott Gomez is still looking for his first goal as a Shark and has played mostly in a third or fourth line role but, with Ryan Clowe facing a possible 10-game suspension, San Jose's coaching staff is thinking of using him alongside Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski.

That should increase the odds he’ll contribute more offensively, but Gomez seemed more excited about just being back in the lineup Saturday night after being scratched three of the last four games than who he’d be skating with. "Main thing is we’ve got to start winning, we’ve got to start finding something, we’ve got to start scoring goals," Gomez said. "Our goaltending and defense have been outstanding and now it’s kind of a challenge to us forwards. You’re not going to win many hockey games scoring one goal."
Feb 24 - 11:15 AM

Scott Gomez was back in the press box on Friday.

Gomez has been a healthy scratch in three of the Sharks' last four games. Any hope that a change of scenery might revitalize Gomez's career have been dashed. He has no fantasy value in standard leagues.
Feb 23 - 11:12 AM

Scott Gomez was reinserted into the Sharks' lineup on Friday.

Gomez spent Tuesday's game in the press box. He had two shots on goal in 11:10 minutes of playing time.
