Cory Sarich (back) took part in Thursday's practice.

"I felt good out there. A little wobbly here and there, chasing some of the guys around. It has been a while," said Sarich, who has been out since Jan. 111 due to a back injury. "Give me a couple more days of practice where we really bump and grind, and that will tell me where I am. But as long as I'm out there, then me being able to play becomes a bigger reality." He hopes to get back into Colorado's lineup soon.

Cory Sarich was a late scratch for Tuesday's contest because of a back ailment.

The Avalanche dressed 11 forwards in a 3-2 overtime win against Chicago due to Paul Stastny's leg injury. Losing Sarich before the game and Erik Johnson during it to injuries as well shortened the team's bench further. Consider Sarich day-to-day for now.

Cory Sarich skated in Colorado's top-six defense group during Thursday's practice.

He was scratched for Tuesday's game against Chicago, but it looks like he'll be back Thursday in Phoenix. "I tried to use it to my advantage. Get some rest. Couple extra days, couple good sleeps," he said. "It is re-energizing, seeing your team have success like that and you have to sit there and watch it. Makes you want to be out there doing it." Nick Holden will take his spot in the press box.

Cory Sarich found the back of the net in Colorado's 2-1 win over Toronto Tuesday night.

His tally evened the game at 1-1 not long after the Leafs had taken a 1-0 lead. Sarich also picked up two penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating in the contest. The physical defender isn't known for his offense, but he can contribute hits and PIMs if he plays regularly. Sarich currently owns a plus-5 rating on the year, which ties him for second in the league.

Cory Sarich is hoping to get a fresh start in Colorado.

"It's nice to be here and get a fresh chance," said Sarich. "If I can get my game going the way I know I can, I think it will really help the club." He is being projected to play on the Avs' third defense pairing with Jan Hejda. Sarich has one year left on his contract, but his focus is being stable and helping the team get off to a good start. If he plays regularly in 2013-14 then he should be able to pick up penalty minutes, hits and blocks.

The Colorado Avalanche blueline looks to be weak again next season.

The Avs picked up Cory Sarich in a trade over a week ago but he is likely a seventh or eighth defenseman under the best of circumstances so the Avalanche should head into the 2013-14 with the same weak blueline as last season when Erik Johnson, Jan Hejda, Ryan Wilson, Tyson Barrie, Stefan Elliott and Matt Hunwick led the way. Wilson was the best of the bunch and was injured for most of the shortened season, so they could be slightly better but the weak blueline does not bode well for goaltender Semyon Varlamov and all poolies who take him.

Cory Sarich has been traded to Colorado as part of a four-player deal.

Sarich and Alex Tanguay have been traded to the Avalanche for David Jones and Shane O'Brien. Sarich appeared in just 28 games with the Flames in 2013. He can play a physical role but he'll probably remain as a depth option in Colorado.

Cory Sarich suffered a broken nose Sunday when he got into a fight with Minnesota's Clayton Stoner.

Sarich managed to practice Monday and is likely to play on Tuesday. "I'm fine," Sarich said. "It's a little tender. I don't think I'd want to take one off it again any time soon. Other than that, it's all right." Sarich has not played a lot this season and has only two assists in 27 games.
