Cory Sarich suffered a broken nose Sunday when he got into a fight with Minnesota's Clayton Stoner.
Sarich managed to practice Monday and is likely to play on Tuesday. "I'm fine," Sarich said. "It's a little tender. I don't think I'd want to take one off it again any time soon. Other than that, it's all right." Sarich has not played a lot this season and has only two assists in 27 games. Apr 23 - 6:43 AM

Cory Sarich made a rare appearance in Calgary's lineup Thursday night against Nashville.

In just his 10th game of the 2013 campaign, he posted a minus-2 rating and two hits in nearly 11 minutes of ice time. It wouldn't be shocking if he returned to the press box for Friday's match versus Columbus.

Cory Sarich was back in the lineup Monday for the first time in three weeks.

Sarich had been a healthy scratch ever since Feb. 18 and has played in only nine games this season failing to pick up a point. That is not his game however and coach Bob Hartley wanted some toughness in the lineup. "I felt it was time for a change, time for new blood," Hartley said. "We're giving up way too many goals. It's a change of scenery, plus on Cory's side, I think he deserves it. Like here's a true professional who works so hard, has a great attitude, wants to contribute to the team's success." Sarich was minus-one in only 8:45 minutes of action with two hits.
Mar 12 - 7:35 AM

Cory Sarich was a healthy scratch on Wednesday.

He was joined in the press box by Anton Babchuk and Blair Jones who were also able to play but coaches decisions not to. Sarich has played in only eight of the Flames 15 games and is minus-three with nary a point. He has no fantasy value.
Feb 21 - 6:29 AM

Cory Sarich isn't surprised that the scheduled start of the NHL season has come and gone without a single game being played.

"I felt that, heading into the end of the summer, we’d get to this point (of a stalemate), for sure," said Sarich. "Based on what went around last time (in 2004-05), I put two and two together and pictured it being this way." Sarich admitted that things have been so quiet on the negotiation front that he hasn't even thought about it much lately. He forgot that Thursday was supposed to be the Calgary Flames' home opener until it was pointed out to him. By contrast, for other players that didn't go through the 2004-05 lockout like Sarich did, the missing of games is what's making this whole situation finally sink in with them.

Cory Sarich has signed a two-year/$4 million contract extension with the Calgary Flames.

Sarich was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He's a nice defensive defenseman that should compliment Calgary's already impressive core of blueliners. However, he isn't expected to have any fantasy value.

It appears that Cory Sarich will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

While the 33-year-old defenseman has little to no fantasy value, he is a solid defensive defenseman. He has not heard from the Flames since his exit interview after the regular season but would like to return to the Flames as he enjoys playing in Calgary. He should have no trouble finding a new team if the Flames decide to let him go.

Cory Sarich returned to action on Friday March 30.

He logged 16:31 of ice time after being sidelined since since Mar. 20 with an upper-body injury. Sarich concluded the contest with a minus-1 rating and one shot.

Cory Sarich was not able to play Saturday afternoon against Dallas.

The upper-body injury he sustained Tuesday night caused him to miss a second consecutive game. Keep Sarich on reserve for now.

Cory Sarich will miss Thursday's game due to an upper body injury.

The severity of Sarich's injury is not yet known. It is believed that he was hurt during the overtime period of Tuesday's contest.

Cory Sarich vented his frustrations after Monday's loss.

"We’re not working hard enough," Sarich said. "I think it’s plain and simple. I think we’re trying to figure out some things positionally, but that is second. We have to put the work in first. We have to get grittier." Calgary decided not to be sellers on Monday, presumably in the hope that they can still make the playoffs. They certainly don't look like a team that can compete in the playoffs anyways, but after losing four straight at home, that might be a moot point. Calgary needs to do better on their upcoming road trip to prevent themselves from falling too far out of eighth place.

Cory Sarich netted his first goal since March 23rd, 2011 on Tuesday.

Sarich is a solid defensive defenseman, but his offensive contributions are limited. He's played in 853 NHL games over his career and has only scored 20 goals.

Cory Sarich was a healthy scratch for the fourth consecutive game on Thursday.

Sarich has apparently asked for a trade out of Calgary, a comment that he denies. It looks as though the Flames will not be using him unless there are a multitude of injuries on the blueline, so he could be sitting for a while as his salary cap hit of $3.6 million in the last year of his contract could be too burdensome for most teams in the league, especially for a depth defenseman.

Cory Sarich said that he didn't demand a trade when he met with Flames GM Jay Feaster.

"We discussed a wide variety of topics," Sarich said. "It was initiated by me, because I just wanted to be open and honest with him. I really wanted to express to him that I want to contribute to this team. I want to be part of this team. I feel like I can fill a role." Even with Mark Giordano sidelined, Sarich has been a healthy scratch recently. Even if Sarich did want to be traded, it's unlikely the Flames could find a partner right now. However, that might not be the case closer to the trade deadline when a potential buyer would only be responsible for a fraction of his $3.6 million annual cap hit. Sarich will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Cory Sarich was once again a healthy scratch.

He did not dress Saturday night against the Oilers making it nine of the Flames' last 12 games he has sat in the press box. Although Sarich has publicly denied requesting a trade, we have to believe he would welcome being dealt at this point. The Flames seem intent on giving youngsters such as Joe Piskula playing time over the veteran rearguard.
